Hi, I have been working on a new class for a while and would like to get some feedback. The formatting for the tables are wonky and I apologise in advance but I cannot seem to change them.
This class is designed for use in games with a strong ki / martial arts flavour and I have directly poached some of the Monk class features for use as higher level class features for the Immortal Chef.
You might ask why I didn't just make this an artificer sub-class and that's a good question. On reflection maybe I should have done that but I wanted to challenge myself and quite frankly designing a class from the ground up takes an immense amount of work (I had help from others with ideas and rewrites). I now have a much better understanding of how much work and the type of work I need to be putting into game prep and homebrewing.
Again, thanks in advance for taking the time to look at it and extra thanks to anyone providing feedback.
Immortal Chef
Clambering over an ancient ruin deep in a humid jungle, a gnome finds a plant in the shape of a dragon, shrouded in wisps of fiery energy, the last ingredient she needs to cook her masterpiece. She will finally gain the fame and fortune she has sought for so long.
A wild haired half-orc youth, finally freed after years of captivity, swears to never let others suffer the torment of slow starvation. With a ladle and pan in hand she heads down into the slums to bring succor to others.
As he watches the other acolytes practising martial arts in the monastery courtyard a human acolyte wonders why he cannot use ki even though he has practised for a year. As he ponders his fate an old master approaches him and tells him there is another way. He finds himself puzzled as he follows the old master to the kitchen.
From palace chefs to street stall vendors, immortal chefs are all united in their love of cooking and good food. This love of cooking is coupled with a profound understanding of their ingredients that allows them to channel energy that flows through all life into their meals, bolstering allies and bringing relief from misery and privation.
The Wonders of Immortal Spice
Immortal chefs' use the energy known as ki by channeling it into specially prepared herbs and spices they call immortal spice. These magical spices allow the creation of fantastical dishes with miraculous powers. Over the years Immortal chefs also have learned how to use the immortal spice to produce magical effects that embody their culinary philosophy. As an immortal chef grows in experience they can manifest increasingly powerful magical effects and more potent meals. Eventually immortal chefs can prepare potent meals from legendary ingredients collected while adventuring. These meals can produce truly miraculous effects while satisfying the most discerning palettes.
Dedication and Passion
Immortal Chefs' are charismatic and confident individuals who seek to create and share culinary experiences to ascend the senses. To create these wonderful meals they hunt powerful beasts and investigate dangerous environments. Immortal chefs can be found anywhere in a world. Some work for armies producing food that raises the soldiers morale while others compete with each other in duels that can be breath taking to watch as swirling energies and incredible smells do battle over the hearts and stomachs of the audience. Some travel from place to place entertaining the locals for a short time with their incredible cooking skills. It does not hurt that they also earn good coin in the process. Some immortal chefs build enormous webs of influence that can span a continent or more.
While most immortal chefs seek some sort of public acclaim, a few work tirelessly in the most miserable of conditions, running soup kitchens for the poor and the downtrodden. This can bring the immortal chef into conflict with tyrants, evil cults and criminal organisations that prey on these people.

Class Features
As an immortal chef, you gain the following class features, which are summarised in the Immortal Chef table.
Immortal Cooking
1st-level immortal chef feature
As part of a short rest, you can cook special food, provided you have ingredients and cook’s utensils on hand. You can prepare enough of this food for a number of creatures equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. At the end of the short rest, any creature who eats the food and spends one or more Hit Dice to regain hit points regains an extra 1d8 hit points. Instead of a healing meal you can prepare a meal from an immortal recipe you know. If you choose to prepare the healing meal you do not need to expend immortal spice or immortal ingredients.
With one hour of work or when you finish a long rest, you can cook a number of treats equal to your proficiency bonus. These special treats last 8 hours after being made. A creature can use a bonus action to eat one of those treats to gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus. Instead of preparing these treats you can instead prepare treats from immortal recipes you know.
In addition, Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses cook’s utensils or a brewer's supplies tool proficiencies.
This ability is identical to the chef feat found in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything with additional rulesets that build on this feat
Immortal Recipes
1st-level immortal chef feature
At 1st level you choose three immortal recipes that you can prepare with your immortal cooking feature. You learn additional recipes as you increase your immortal chef level as indicated in the Immortal Chef table.
There are a few recipes designated as liquor which use modified rules. Liquors are prepared with brewer’s supplies rather than cook’s utensils. Liquors require one hour to prepare and then a 24 hour brewing period in a suitable container. Once the liquor has been brewed the liquor remains potent for 24 hours. You can prepare enough of this liquor for a number of creatures equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. Liquor, regardless of how many creatures you can affect, takes up one wineskin or jug.
Immortal Spice
1st-level immortal chef feature
Your chafing skill and boundless passion for cuisine allows you to access to create a resource called immortal spice which you can use to cook Immortal Dishes and manifest certain class abilities. This is represented by a number of immortal spice points. Your immortal chef level determines how many immortal spice points you have, as shown on the immortal spice Points column of the Immortal Chef table. You can spend these points to cook immortal recipes. You learn more class features that utilise immortal spice as you gain levels in this class.
When you spend an immortal spice point it is unavailable until you finish a long rest. Some of your class features that use immortal spice require your target to make a saving throw to resist the feature’s effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows:
Immortal spice saving throw = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier
Ingredient Gathering
1st-level immortal chef feature
You are able to gather immortal ingredients from creatures and the environment to use when cooking immortal recipes. You may gather these immortal ingredients from creatures with the Beast, Dragon or Plant subtypes (or any your Dungeon Master deems appropriate). The table below lists how many portions of immortal ingredients you can gather based on monster size. A portion of immortal ingredients weighs 1 pound and the ingredients remain potent for 24 hours before losing their ability to be used for Immortal Cooking.
Size
Portions
Tiny
Zero
Small
One
Medium
Two
Large
Four
Huge
Six
Gargantuan
Eight
At level 8 you can gather one extra portion when you use this class feature to gather immortal ingredients from lairs or monster corpses. At level 14 you can gather a total of two extra portions. This means at level 8 you can gather one portion of immortal ingredients from a Tiny creature and at level 14 you can gather 2 extra portions.
In addition, you know how to find and safely gather edible plants and mushrooms from the lair of a monster. For each lair action a monster has you can gather one plant immortal ingredient from the lair. Gathering takes 10 minutes regardless of how many ingredients you gather. If the creature that owns the lair is legendary then the ingredients gathered from the lair are legendary ingredients instead of immortal ingredients
You can spend 1 hour foraging for plant immortal ingredients or hunt for immortal meat ingredients in the wilderness, after one hour has passed make DC 15 Wisdom (Nature or Survival). If you are successful you find one portion of plant or meat immortal ingredients. You must travel at least 1 mile before you can make another check. If you are using overland travel you can make a check every 4 hours. You cannot gather legendary ingredients from the wilderness.
When you collect immortal or legendary ingredients from any source you are also assumed to collect materials that you will use to replenish your supply of immortal spice. These take up no additional space although your DM may rule that you need to dedicate 1 pound of inventory space to a spice bag or similar container.
Chef’s Fire
2nd-level immortal chef feature
You can cast the cantrip produce flame at will. You do not expend immortal spice to use this ability but you must have 1 immortal spice available. You can use this to create a magical fire that will heat a pot, wok, pan or grill that is within 15 ft of you that you will use for immortal cooking. The fire heats the implement perfectly for the duration of the dish's cooking time. If you are cooking a legendary dish you must expend 3 immortal spice to produce a sufficient flame to cook the dish.
Ingredient Subdual
2nd-level immortal chef feature
Your knowledge of monstrous anatomy makes you a deadly opponent to your soon to be ingredients. If you make a successful attack against a monster with the beast, dragon or plant sub types as a reaction to make the attack magical and deal 1d4 bonus damage which is the same type of damage as the weapon. At 6th level it improves to d6, 10th level to d8, 15th level to d10 and finally at 19th level at d12. At 15th level the attack is now considered adamantine and magical for the purposes of damage reduction. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and you recover all uses of this ability after a long or short rest.
Chef’s Presence
3rd-level immortal chef feature
You can intimidate creatures in their presence. You may spend 1 immortal spice point to cause a number of Creatures with the Beast, Dragon or Plant Subtype equal to your proficiency bonus plus your Charisma Modifier (Minimum 1) within 60 ft. of you to make a Charisma saving throw DC 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Your Charisma Modifier or become frightened for 1 minute.
A creature affected by chef's presence may repeat the saving throw at the end of each of it's turns. If the creature makes a successful saving throw they cannot be affected by Chef's Presence for 24 hours. At 9th level you may instead spend 2 immortal spice Points to inflict disadvantage on the initial saving throw to resist the frightened condition.

Immortal Chef’s Storage Jar
5th-level immortal chef feature
You have learned special ways to perfectly preserve immortal and legendary ingredients. You can create a magical storage jar to hold ingredients and preserve them perfectly. The jar takes a long rest to create and costs 100gp worth of materials. You must be able to expend immortal spice equal to their proficiency bonus at the start of a long rest in order to create the jar. The jar is a small object with AC 18 and hit points equal to the chef’s proficiency bonus + Charisma modifier.
The jar has damage resistance to all damage types except for force and is immune to psychic, poison, radiant and necrotic damage. If the jar is destroyed all the dishes within are destroyed. A new jar can be made to replace the old one as long as the time, immortal spice and material costs are met.
The jar can hold a maximum number of immortal and legendary ingredients equal to your double proficiency bonus. You can withdraw or store an ingredient as a bonus action. You must have at least 1 point of immortal spice available to access the jar but its use does not consume immortal spice. The jar is not an extra dimensional storage container, instead you shrink down dishes when they are placed in the jar and when you retrieve them they regain their normal size.

MULTICLASSING AND THE IMMORTAL CHEF
If your group uses the optional rule on multiclassing in the Player’s Handbook, here’s all the information you need if you choose immortal chef as one of your classes.
Ability Score Minimum. As a multiclass character, you must have at least a Charisma score of 13 to take levels in this class, or to take a level in another class if you are already an immortal chef.
Proficiencies Gained. If immortal chef is not your initial class, here are the proficiencies you gain when you take your first level as an immortal chef: light armor, shields, chef’s utensils, brewer’s supplies..
School of Cuisine
3rd-level class feature
Choose the school of cuisine that best reflects your style of cooking: Avant Garde, Fine Dining, Gluttony, Martial Cooking, Street Cooking, each of which is detailed after the class’s description. Your choice grants you features at 3rd level and again at 7th, 11th and 17th level.

Your mastery of immortal spice and the energy that empowers it makes you immune to disease and poison.

Legendary recipes
12th-level immortal chef feature
You learn a legendary recipe and as you increase in level you learn a new legendary recipe at 16th and 20th level. Legendary recipes are extremely powerful recipes and they cannot be used with the immortal chef feature, instead you must use your immortal banquet feature to prepare them.
