I was going to make a joke, but then it actually got twisted into a pretty cool idea. What if you had 2 sub-races of the Badgerkind: Forest and Honey Badgers? Forest Badgers would get a bonus to Wis and burrowing (and more I'm sure) while the Honey Badgers get a bonus to Con and Advantage/Immunity against Poisons (maybe advantage up to a certain level, then immunity?).
I love the concept, way to go!

Characters:
Grishkar Darkmoor, Necromancer of Nerull the Despiser Kelvin Rabbitfoot, Diviner, con artist, always hunting for a good sale Bründir Halfshield, Valor Bard, three-time Sheercleft Drinking Competition Champion, Hometown hero
While it may be a cliche meme by now, I think the sub-race of Honey Badger could provide great melee potential. The animal is known for being able to shrug off incredible pain (charging right into a beehive that would turn away a bear...?) and being a natural predator of highly venomous snakes (comatose then metabolising the venom).
A forest badger might give defensive bonuses when moving or charging as well as a natural tendency toward burrowing or subterranean environments.
