A familiar totem is a carved figure of an animal or animals that has been hollowed, filled with the ashes of the burned components required in the familiar spell, and then sealed. The totem then acts as a focus, allowing the caster to call forth the familiar in any form on the totem without additional components.
A totem can have no more than 5 animals carved into it and for each animal carved into the totem, there must be an additional amount of ash provided equal to a casting of the spell (10 gp worth of charcoal, incense, and herbs that must be consumed by fire in a brass brazier).

Thanks for the heads up, wasn't sure the link would work.
