So I played an Eldritch Knight Paladin with the Polearm master feat, I had crafted a double edged Halberd. This turned my d4 blunt end into a d10 slashing.
I like double bladed weapons, and this is less overpowered than the double bladed scimitar just released for Ebberon (though the wording for that is kind of a mess and will likely be changed, so I may be misinterpreting it). That said, this is a pretty big improvement if it didn't cost you gold equivalent to a magic item.
The biggest problem with it is that it's no longer a reach weapon if you can't hold near the end of it. It becomes more of a double bladed battle axe than halberd. I would let you use dual weapon fighting with it, but not polearm master and it would lose the reach property
I never really considered the reach being removed, as the length extended rather then staying the same size, but I can see the argument., I could draw up a version that I think would allow it to stay a reach weapon. Either way it isn't something my current charcter would wield anyway, so I am more posing this for when I revisits that character one day.

Is that OP?
It worked in our game.
