I've been looking all over for any official (don't think they exist) or House Rules for using downtime to improve ones HP. I've seen rules for this somewhere for 5th ed but can't find them now. I've also seen the rules for Pathfinder about Retraining HP rolls up to the Maximum HP for your level.
Anyone have any suggestions on this idea or a source for it?
There's no official rules for it. House rules would mostly work out to whatever you thought was appropriate, depending on what you want your players to be able to accomplish. I'd be careful with it - the idea is interesting, but allowing players to max out their HP throws typical encounter math way off. Especially with big dice classes like fighter or Pecsbarian.
Agreed. In one source it was 3 days per 1 HP point, and require a trainer who is a level higher. If you used average dice, lower Hit Die classes would be able to update their HP, but in exchange of not doing other downtime actives.
For the non fighting types, this wouldn't make a lot of sense as their downtime usually is used by other things. For a Fighter type, it might make a lot of sense. A fighter at 2nd level and had average HP, it would take 15 days each time you level up to max out your HP. If you were to add in some sort of Gold cost, it would eventually add up in money but really it would be the time sync which would hit the group. If every level you spent 15 days of down time to max your HP would be a lot of downtime.
Thank you for your feedback.
