I am thinking about replacing the Tools skills with old school Profession skill.
When a character has an option to take an Artisan tool like Alchemist's supplies, Carpenter's tools, Cook's utensils...They instead would get Profession: Alchemist or Profession: Carpenter...etc. They would still need the equipment to perform the skill.
Something like Herbalism kit would not be a skill. You would use Nature to identify an herb, if you wanted to harvest the herb you would need an Herbalist Kit to use proficiency bonus on a Nature roll to do it.
Poisoner's Kit would not be a skill. It's just a kit that has Ingredients to make a poison. It would only have like 10 uses (like Healer's kit) and then would need to be resupplied, which would take a Nature roll and some time to find the stuff.
Been thinking about the Tinker's Tools...What would the Tinker profession be? Somebody who has skill in making small mechanical (clockwork) items? or something along those lines.

Help me think this thru
I like the general idea. It would need to be flushed out a little more, but it could improve crafting.
