I'm not sure how it would work but I was thinking about a cross between a Hard and a Artificer. Any ideas on how that could work? I was thinking it would be more a support class with buffing stats and healing and what not. Aside from that I've got nothing
It wouldn't work as well in combat, because most things take longer to cook than 6 seconds. Eating the food would work, but then realism (why and how would they be carrying the food around) would be hindered. I think it's actually a good idea though, but as a subclass, with features like the UA chef feat.
Alchemist Artificer. or you can just... be any of the other classes, and just happen to cook. There is a build I liked called the "Hexspoon," where you are a Hexblade Warlock plus a few other multiclasses to be able to spam Goodberries to be baked into goodies. Multiple classes can be chefs, there isn't a need to step on the toes of Bard and Artificer with a new class when the existing tools can already be used to make it.

Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
Well flavor in a short stored as a butcher's clever, a club as a big wooden spoon. Maybe throw in a few fighter skills to make up for the lack in combat, I'm not sure. Obviously you couldn't cook something up on the fly but cooks need to plan out and work on the fly as well. Again I'm not sure how to build this up but I think it can be done

except it doesn't need to be done. You can already make a chef character using the existing tools in the game without making something totally new that, in your words "is in between Bard and Artificer." the simplest way is just... play Alchemist Artificer, or get creative as far as the other classes go. You do *not* need a new class for this, existing mechanics already work.

There is a chef feat but this could work out, I just see the problem of the usefulness of a chef. Healing would definitely work with a chef but not so much with combat. I think you could do a cross over of an Alchemist Artificer/bard with the chef feat or just go full bard.

I think it would be a fun reflavor for a bard or other class, but definitely not something that should be official, even as a subclass. It's just too silly for most games—plus its abilities (powerful out-of-combat healing, for example) would fit better as a broader LotR-esque Loremaster class. That said, if you're trying to build a homebrew chef, I'd consider building the class around short rests—maybe it can buff, heal, or even help other classes get back hit dice, spell slots, and other resources you can't normally regain when you prepare a meal.
I actually love this idea as a bard/ranger type class. The college of culinary. reflavor a few spells as "recipes", Use your recipe book as a spell book. as far as melee, Chef weapons could function along the lines of monk weapons but focus on improvised weapons such as cast iron frying pan, kitchen knifes, rolling pin, etc.. just a fun well balanced half caster. you could even look at sub classes which focus on your style of cooking.
i have been inspired and threw this together in literally five minutes. not to be taken seriously but the idea was fun so here's a haphazard Chef bard subclass with nearly no flavor text (ironically), or feature names but who cares:
At 3rd level: You learn three recipes (listed below), which you can cook for your party. You learn additional recipes at certain levels, as listed on the Chef’s Table (lol).
When you finish a long rest, you can create a number of foodstuffs equal to the corresponding number per bard level on the Chef’s Table (i have not made a table but assume it's like #=PB or something). Each snack can be made from one recipe you know, but you can make more than one snack of each recipe; for example, you can create two caffeine snacks and one bolstering snack, but you can’t have one snack with both effects in it.
A snack takes a bonus action to consume, and spoils at the end of your next long rest, becoming unconsumable.
Also at 3rd level: Knife Skills You become proficient in any melee weapon that doesn’t have the Heavy or Two-Handed property. Those weapons now have the Finesse property for you, meaning you can use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier for attack and damage rolls with such weapons.
At 6th level: You can cast Purify Food and Drink and Create Food and Water each once per long rest without expending a spell slot or using material components, and with any spell slots of the appropriate level that you have available. They do not count against your number of known spells.
At 14th level: Having traveled across the lands, learning new cooking styles, your Knife Skills ability now applies to all melee weapons, and you can cast Purify Food and Drink at will.
Also at 14th level: Head Chef You can expend one use of your Bardic Inspiration to cast Suggestion on one target, and subtract the number rolled on your Bardic Inspiration die from its saving throw.
RECIPES: all of these level up with the chef
Essentially Enhance Ability But Portable (ADV on checks for a given ability), all day
Resistance (ADV on all saves) for 1 minute
Smell bomb: like a CON save or be incapacitated for a round in a certain area, except allies and foes are affected. (can be thrown?)
Bolstering Meal: temp HP
Caffeine: +1 to attack and damage rolls for 1 min
Maybe some other prereq higher level ones too.
I now imagine a bard chef wielding a warhammer named The Tenderizer commanding someone to go shishkebab themself (yes i know that's not how Suggestion works but still. it's funny gfdhjksfgjhd).
