I'm looking to co-DM a game I'm playing in, and wanted to setup my character as a captive to give my character a reason for being absent in game, and an easy directional goal for my players/teammates. One of the up-coming big bad-guys is a Night Hag that I've modified to be able to pull my consciousness into the Ethereal Plane through the Nightmare ability, and trap me there through a magic item I made-up called an Astral Hasp. (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/2833163-astral-hasp). https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/2836451-astral-hasp
I'm looking for any feedback on the idea or item. Also what should some of the other consequences be for an extended unwilling stay in the Astral Planes? Was thinking made a pact with a fey deity or extended madness. Any thought would help.

Love the idea! You could also possibly describe the effects of the etherealness more carefully, for example: A creature turned ethereal in this way is immune to all damage and can't take actions or reactions. The creature can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain.

All stars fade. Some stars forever fall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Homebrew (Mostly Outdated):Magic Items,Monsters,Spells,Subclasses ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there was no light, people wouldn't fear the dark.
I like it. I've added it along with resolving a time warp in the feywild, as well as added the modified lore for the Night Hag as well.
I'm wondering if you'd allow a creature with the Ethereal Condition to be moved or not. This device has the potential use for slave trade if the creature could be moved, but uncertain how it should resolve. Unconscious creatures would be easier to move, but another item would be needed to curtail their magic for that use.
