KD helps Lilly up and absentmindedly pats her on the back as they walk forward. "That was... risky. Who knew it could throw spikes? Uncle never told me..."and then she stops talking.
When she gets to the body, she is already scanning it for anything useful or interesting to obtain from the carcass. Spikes and teeth, and wracking her brain for anything she's heard that could be useful from manticores. So many things to experiment with...
Demetrios had anticipated that the next time he peeked his head out from cover, that Onu would be lying down on the ground unconscious, but thankfully that wasn't the case. The monk had swiftly taken down the creature with his blade, garnering a breath a relief to escape the paladin. Before stepping out, he decides to asses his wounds, carefully pulling out the spike that had managed to puncture his shoulder with a pained groan. A moment later, he gives the wound some healing magic so it could begin healing properly.
Healing Hands on self for 1hp c:
Afterwards, he stands up straight, eyes scanning over the others as they made their way over to the windmill, another wave of relief washing over him. They made it all out okay, that's what mattered. Demetrios then turns his attention over to the woman in the window, ensuring she was safe as he moved towards the now deceased beast. "A manticore..." He repeats its name quietly to himself.
He clears his throat prior to looking back up to the woman. "Am I safe to assume you are Miss Adabra Gwynn?"He questions. Could never be too sure if maybe the lady had any guests over at the time. "Has this creature been a menace to you before?"

(I appreciate everyone's continued patience and understanding this week. I apologize in advance for the hefty read, but I do hope you enjoy and take your time, if you want... :3)
After taking a moment to inhale a breath and fully begin to take in the extent of the damage on her home, the woman believed the young halfling's words. She'd extend a sincere nod of gratitude.
"Looks like I was going to have uninvited guests either way!" She'd call back a quick quip to the monk. There was a smirk on her face that would indicate that she was jesting. Right? The woman would then leave the window to make her way downstairs.
KD investigates the manticore's carcass, diligently referencing through archives of historical information she could recall on the spot. Although the artificer may not have as much experience out in nature with these creatures, there was plenty of theory to suggest that there's always plenty to harvest or repurpose. With her attention focused on the spikes, she immediately is reminded of a dart. The teeth make good trophies (the head a larger trophy), charms or trinkets as none appear to be large enough for a dagger. Although, that doesn't mean a skilled craftsman couldn't craft some from bone... On that thought, maybe some teeth could be used for arrow or bolt tips... There's potential in the hide...
"But it looks like we've got plenty of fresh meat!" The woman appears, poking her head in the damaged doorway. "Pre-tenderized," She'd emerge from the doorway and step over the beast as she continued, "To feed everyone here, barter with and even bring back to Toblen." Eyes scanning to you all, she'd place her hands on her hips. "I hope we have a cook." Then, she'd look back at her doorway and let out a full bodied sigh. "And someone to help me fix this..." She'd glance over her shoulder expectantly before returning her attention back to the scene, lightly poking the creature with her boot. "Again..."
Hearing a clearing of a throat, the woman would turn around to face the paladin addressing her by name and asking the follow up question. "Yes. I am Adabra Gwynn." First she would nod to his first question, then her head would bob a little in a yes and no fashion to the second. "And you all are?" Adabra would pause before explaining herself. Her deep brown eyes would asses all of you, lingering on the wounded.
"Since the appearance of the dragon there's been a large shift in our local ecosystem. With the dragon's encroachment on the Manticore's territory, it's been driven away from it's natural home environment in search of new resources." She'd start to explain. "While out fishing one morning, fate had it that my path crossed a Manticore's. I bought my freedom with fresh catch. So, yes, I've encountered this creature before. I imagine it was returning for another installment."
Adabra Gwynn (Info & imagery)
She doesn’t take nonsense and will believe things when she sees them. While not seeming the friendliest at a first impression, she goes out of her way to help people in need of rest or healing.
The villagers in Phandalin completely rely on her as the only one with healing capabilities, and she takes the responsibility very seriously. She is often found working deep into the night on making healing supplies so she can provide them to her customers in the morning.
"Well," With a breath, the midwife would draw her blade. She'd raise a brow and gesture to the curious artificer, "I'll guide, if you and at least one other help." She'd jut her chin towards the slain beast. "But we work and talk." That was fact. Then she'd point to the wounded, "Take a seat. Rest. But pay attention. Listen." Adabra's a stern and strong human woman, with tan skin that must be from working the land on the top of the hill in the sun. She has dark hair, and the scent of herbs cling to her.
KD/Anyone (Interested in the Manticore and harvesting it for goodies? This is for you. There's so much potential indeed... You decide!)
At this point, the midwife would pause to asses the group more closely. Those who may not be comfortable with this process, she'd provide warning. With a smile and the utmost respect for those who'd rather skip these potentially sensitive or graphic scenes, she'd invite them to go explore the grounds where she has a garden with fresh vegetables and herbs. They were welcome to do some gathering if they wanted.
Manticore First, the woman would circle the beast and start with a detailed overview from her new, experienced, and shared observations. "A monster in every sense of the word, a manticore has a vaguely humanoid head, the body of a lion, and the wings of a dragon. A bristling mane stretches down the creature’s back, and its long tail ends in a cluster of deadly spikes that can impale prey at impressive range."
As if from a beastiary she'd continue...
Evil Predators. Manticores are fierce killers that hunt far and wide for prey. They work together to take down particularly large or dangerous creatures, sharing the meal once a kill is made. A manticore begins its attack with a volley of tail spikes, then lands and uses its claws and bite. When outdoors and outnumbered, it uses its wings to stay aloft, attacking from a distance until its spikes are depleted.
A manticore isn’t particularly bright, but it possesses a malevolent nature and the ability to converse. In the course of attacking, it denigrates its foes and offers to kill them swiftly if they beg for their lives. If a manticore sees an advantage to be gained by sparing a creature’s life, it does so, asking for a tribute or sacrifice equal to its loss of food.
This one, even for appearing a little undernourished, was extra focused on protecting/obtaining a food source, perhaps for a mate.
Monstrous Relationships. Manticores serve wicked masters that treat them well and provide regular prey. A manticore might provide aerial support for an orc horde or a hobgoblin army. Another could serve as a hunting companion for a hill giant chief, or guard the entrance to a lamia’s lair.
The manticores’ greatest territorial rivals include chimeras, griffons, perytons, and wyverns. Manticores hunting as a pack often have the advantage of greater numbers. In addition to these creatures, manticores fear dragons and avoid them.
Spikes "Let's start easy." Adabra picks up the tail from below the spikes and holds it out to KD. "Count." She'd shake it a little, insisting that she should have taken it from her by now. "Now pluck." Watching you reach towards the centre where some are already missing, she'd wait until you'd prick yourself once or twice before adding. "Pro tip: Start on the outside." She'd encourage someone to hold the tail to allow KD to use both hands so it could go faster.
KD's Contributions:
Tail Spike Regrowth. The manticore has twenty-four tail spikes. Used spikes regrow when the manticore finishes a long rest. Spike Count: 12/24 remain (12 were used)
Teeth The woman would pop her brows. "Shark week anyone?" Keeping a straight face she'd point to the Manticore's mouth. "Multiple rows of chompers much like the familiar sea predator." KD would recognize three rows, top and bottom. "Loose, old, worn and cracked on the outside." Pointing out ones with plenty of character and experience. "In the centre they're firm, in their prime sometimes and a little tricky or finicky." With a steady but sure hand, they could obtained. "New, shiny, small but mighty are on the inside." Those pearly whites have lots of potential.
KD's Conclusions
Outer Teeth: Perfectly unique and charming for small trophies or trinkets. Middle Teeth: Probably make the best potential bolt/arrow tips. Inner Teeth: Could be crafted into some jewelry, or perhaps enhance/stud some armour?
Claws Adabra would lift a paw and pass it over. If no one grabbed it, she'd allow it to drop on their foot. "Pro tip: Spread 'em" Grabbing another paw to demonstrate by pressing on the pad of the paw. It'd cause the felines toes to spread and further reveal the full length of the claws for easier extraction. "Perfect."
Thoughts of anyone interested
Obvious idea: More trophies, trinkets or jewelry Inspired idea: Perhaps could be engineered into some tools and/or fishing hooks?
Hide "Best to salvage what's possible." The woman's nose would twitch at the scorched fur scent. "I shouldn't have to say it, but Best Tip: Keep it clean and sharp." She'd lift her knife. "Depending on the wounds, you can do a controlled blood drain for an entry point." Eyes would look to the javalin in shoulder. She'd pull it out and hand it to the paladin with a nod. It was drained enough here. "Then preferably, one straight, smooth, and precise cut." She'd get someone to help her arrange the creature in a better area off to the side. "Disembowel it without puncturing the organs." She'd add before demonstrating with one swift motion. "That's the easy part." Next it was up to others to help gut and skin. It was not something for the weak stomached.
Potential for the determined
Crafting: Form follows function. Design fashion or gear? Profitable: Value in bartering or selling for extra cash
Butchering "Now we're getting to the real meat of things." That gave you some hope that you were nearing the end of the road (text). Maybe. This process would take time to go over by sections, but eventually with a bit of work, the manticore could be harvested with fair portions. "I really hope we have a chef..." Adabra would admit as she'd look back over the group.
Sustenance!
Raw Meat: Fresh food to cook, preserve, barter and/or sell Small Bones: Broth flavouring
Extras
Large Bones: Strong repurpose potential. Head: Large Status Trophy
Artemis quietly puts down his quarterstaff, gently inspects the wound on his chest and then massages each hand with the other briefly. He seems to be lost in thought for a moment after the battle. After a minute or so however the old man picks the staff up again and leans on it in his wounded state, shuffling forward toward the dead manticore and the others. Chuckling a bit he soon winces and regrets the movement in his chest. "Ha!...(ow)...well you lot have more promise than one might have thought. Well done!" Standing next to Demetrios while inspecting his wound a bit more he continues "if anyone had mentioned a manticore I might have found some proper armor back in town!" "Maybe the teeth of this beastie will help pay for it if I'm to follow you lot around!"
(Artemis only has leather armor and a 13AC since he started with warlock gear despite hexblade then allowing medium armor which he'll have to buy once he has some money.)

Lilly cheerfully waved manticora's needle. "You got yourself a chef!" Waving a ladle (obviously, she had one in the backpack) would probably be more appropriate but the precious utensil was packed well. "Never dealt with a man-ti-co-re before,"(the word was long and new, she made sure to say it properly) "but should not be that difficult, right?" She stopped in front of the corpse, like a sculptor in front of a chunk of marble, contemplating a future masterpiece. (Cooking? 16 would gladly accept help and guidance from Adabra for advantage! 7 - or may be handle it herself)
The work with an unfamiliar animal needed some practice to be perfect but Lilly did not hesitate to ask Adabra for advice and kept collecting chunks of meat. The talking was helpful too in another way - even if the woman looked made of iron (the way she handled the danger) Lilly was not, it was her first real fight ever. She did want to talk. "You really know that monsters well, do you? I have never seen one before. Kind of scary... Glad we could handle it. - Oh, this will be good to smoke! - You know, it smells a bit too gamy, but with the right spices - do you mind if I cook in your kitchen? - I am sure the smell and taste can be softened. I am not The Greatest Chef, of course, I mean, my mother is way better, but I did learn..."
The talking (and cutting) were quite soothing despite the gruesome look of the work from aside, and at the end, they were ought to get some meat. If permission to cook was granted, Lilly would try her hands on that. Adabra's size only meant the need for a few strategically placed chairs and a bit of climbing, but that Lilly could handle. The party could not really count on smoking - that takes too long, but roasted meat would survive a bit longer and she wanted to take some pieces for the road. And to be fair, Lilly would not mind some rest after the battle (she suspected she was not the only one). What is better than rest with a good meal as well?
Onu was a smooth talker, even a fast talker when the moment called for it, but he knew when to shut up and listen. This was one of those rare moments where less from him was better than more.
As the midwife addressed the group, Onu gave her a smile and a respectful nod. Even before she called for it, the monk had slid over to help KD with her examination of the beast. That as their implicit deal - KD found new toys and tools and Onu had access to a steady stream of inventive gadgets to keep their bellies fed.
Stripping out of his suit coat and tailored jacket, the lean half-elf pitched in with both Lily's butchering and the KD's harvesting efforts with enthusiasm.
As the woman made her way downstairs, cognac hues scanned over the carcass as KD inspected it more close up, noting a few things of interest on the creature. When she emerged from the doorway, commenting on the fresh meat, he nodded along in agreement. It would be a shame for this all to go to waste without getting something out of it.
At her confirmation of who she was, the paladin bows his head respectfully to her. "Demetrios Zalaoras,"The paladin introduces himself. "I can fix your doorway for you." He adds in before gesturing over the others and giving the rest of their names (unless they wanted to introduce themselves).
When Adabra begins to explain her past run ins with the creature, Demetrios listened intently, glancing between her and the now dead manticore as a frown and furrowed brows grew upon his visage. "Thankfully we had arrived just in time before it could try to get another installment then..."He comments. At the draw of her blade and the offering to guide, a thick brow would cock in interest.
With Lilly, Onu, and KD nearby to assist with the carving of the creature, Demetrios hovered about to listen and learn what he could from Adabra's teachings. She definitely knew a thing or two about the beast, which he was thankful for. You never know what you could use to your advantage in another battle had you come across another one of them, or even a creature similar to it.
For a brief moment, his eyes flicker over to Artemis beside him, noticing the slight winces, most likely from the pain his injury still had been inflicting upon him. A hand would rest on the older gentleman's shoulder. "Here..." He says quietly, not wanting to disturb the lesson in the background now. "It's all I have left but... hopefully it helps some..."
LoH - 1hp for Arty
"If you do decide to stick around, we can definitely look into getting you something stronger."He flashes Arty a confident smile. Once he sees Artemis doing somewhat better, he returns his attention onto the carving lesson once again, leaning in a bit more to get a closer look at the pearly whites they had plucked out. If allowed to, Demetrios would take a tooth from the inner most row of teeth.
Demetrios wasn't a chef of the sort (normally having people do it for him, or his mother when she wanted to make him and his brothers their favorite meals), so he wouldn't step up to the plate when it came to cooking the meat (though thankfully seemed to be that Lilly was ready and capable in handling it), but had she needed any assistance, he would be willing to help in whatever way he could (he could at least chop some things!).
Assuming no help was needed (but if so, feel free to ignore this lol), when they moved to get cleaned up, Demetrios inspects the door way more closely this time. "Am I safe to assume you already have some lumber and nails prepared to fix this?" He looks to Adabra. "Since it had been damaged before... Was it from the same creature or have you had other beasts try attacking you up here?"

KD's brain went into humble listening, pure processing mode. This woman knew a lot about beast butchering. KD appreciated the fearlessness with which she approached the task. Not clinical, not savage, but familiar, intelligent, and the opposite of squeamish. As Adabra began the butchering process, KD's hands were often already in place, anticipating the next step without really understanding the physiology... yet.
Eventually, after some work, she speaks up. "By the way, you can call me KD," she says. "You know a great deal, and I really appreciate it. I've got some ideas of other things that might be done with some of the sharp bits, and even some of the viscera. The meat should go to feeding people of course. And since this has been menacing you for a while, I'd say you get first dibs of what else you like. And I'm working with these fine folk, who put their lives on the line to defeat it, and they should get what they like. But whatever's not wanted, I'll try to take and make use of. I like the fact that this manticore was a bit of a jerk, and its legacy is to feed and benefit good, curious people. I bet that'd stick in its craw."
She's got a small, shallow crush on this very impressive woman already.
She'd happily take any of the 12 spikes no one else wanted, thinking of ways she could improve people's weapons with them, among other things. Same with any claws and teeth the others didn't want. She wasn't thrilled with the prospect of tanning the hide, but there's value in it, so that's also a possibility. She gratuitously uses Onu to help hold open body cavities, sort bloody claws and teeth as she yanks them from their sockets, giving him little half-cocked smiles if he shows any sign of discomfort. She messages to him things like "this will pay off for you, don't worry, been working on something you'll like" and "it was smart to shed the fancy clothes" and "we really almost died back there, didn't we? And here we are, butchering. What a day..."
When she finished, she'd also take a look at the door to see if there's a way to better reinforce it, perhaps with some scrap metal nearby.
(OOC: If she saw anyone hurting, she'd offer another use of her special healing salve...)
Adabra actually cracked a few genuine smiles throughout the whole process. The group was eager, attentive, and very self sufficient. They worked well together, so once she got them started, they fell into their own rhythm. She was able to step back for the most part. Of course she supervised with unnecessary moments of micro management, but more in her way of encouragement to make sure you stayed on task, and to give her some things to do.
First off, the midwife was thrilled there was a cook. Not only did Lilly know her way around the kitchen, she made herself at home in Adabra's, and even added some improvements of her own to the space. There was nothing Adabra could do that would actually be helpful to Lilly, if anything, the woman would just get in the way. She'd wrinkle her nose for a moment, but then she'd break into a genuine laugh. "Well Miss Lilly, I believe you more than have things under control here." A smile would grow on her face. "If you ever find yourself with some spare healing herbs on your travels, I could prepare some healing potions for you and your team. It's the least I could do, and something I could actually help with." She'd wink. The healer would then pull two vials from a cupboard before fully clearing the halflings work space. She'd hand Lilly one Potion of Healing.
Next she'd approach the older gentleman who took a seat to heal. Without needing to say anything, Adabra would reach out a pouch to him. She'd give him a respectful nod of her head. The pouch contained a Potion of Healing and the share of the claws and teeth she plucked during her demonstrations.
Looking up to Demetrios, Adabra would nod. "My pleasure." She'd lead the paladin to some wood and supplies, talking as they set him up for door repair, safely out of Lilly's cooking space. "My community needs the supplies and medicine I prepare." She'd start, "Living on the outskirts of town always has it's challenges, but it's my home. And my work is my purpose." She'd continue to explain. "There have always been threats. Before the dragon it was just the occasional hoodlum or orc. But since the dragon appearances, there have been more aggressive wild visitors." The midwife would shrug. "Wolves, and a bear last. But this was the first Manticore." She'd admit, handing you a set of tools. After a pause, she'd continue. "I sincerely appreaciate all the help, and I give my thanks to Tymora for sending you all my way, but I will not return to Phandalin." Seeing any looks of disappointment or questioning, Adabra would assure. "I can provide you with a written note that should satisfy any criteria for proof that you've come to offer me sanctuary in town, but I respectfully deny. I would prefer to continue my duties out here. I believe the risk is still worth it, though I will take extra precautions and safety measures." She'd offer a hand for a firm handshake before respectfully stepping away to give you space to work. As you did, she'd prepare that note.
Adabra would then check in on the curious artificer and her companion. They were making great progress on their own. She was impressed with KD's own musings over additional uses for the remains. She'd smile over the working pair, even let out a small chuckle over her added thoughts at the end. With a nod, the midwife would agree. "I believe your chef gets first dibs." She winks, setting aside the best cut as harvested and instructed by Lilly. "There's plenty to go around to evenly distribute for different uses and feed plenty of hungry bellies." Adabra would continue to lend her hand here to assist with preparing the trophies, portioning, wrapping and clean up. It'd speed things up for the group so that they'd still have plenty of daylight left to continue their journey, but not without having their own fill...
Once everyone was cleaned and washed up, you're all ushered to an impromptu meal set up. Considering the surprise of this many guests, there was enough ingenuity and materials to go around, that it all ended up coming together quite fittingly. There were a some chairs, a couple stools and a few spare stumps of different shapes and heights that made up the seating. There was this sense of whimsy that came with the mismatched tableware that accompanied a charming meal prepared by the groups very own impromptu Chef Lilly.

Artemis claps Demetrios on the should in thanks for the additional healing, although regrets it a bit as he winces after the forceful movement. "It'll be fine in a bit I'm sure, thanks."
The old man gives a smile and polite greeting and thank you to Adabra for the healing potion.
As the group settles in for a meal, Onu raises his glasses and stands at his place.
'A toast, if you please. To our host, and her safety, to the bravery of my comrades, and most importantly - to the ingenuity and skill of our chef!'
Resuming his seat, he shoots a look towards KD, hoping she'd take the cue to pitch back to him. His headlong rush towards the Manticore was the best tactical solution to the problem - force the monster to focus on him while the rest of them peppered it from a distance - but that didn't mean he couldn't also take strategic advantage of his success....
Yes, Lilly did pack her manticore's spike, wrapping it up into a spare handkerchief (it was a big handkerchief) and placing it safely among other stuff. She was really trully happy to see her first on-the-road meal to turn out to everyone's liking (well, technically, it was cooked in the perfectly equipped kitchen, but the group was on the road, right?) She watched everyone eating like a hawk stalking a hare - or a Chef watching a picky client. "Your kitchen is truly good!" Lilly could not think of a better compliment, "and many thanks for the potion, but I truly wish you would come with us." She looked at Adabra apologetically. "The letter from you is good, but it's really-really dangerous out here." She sighed but did not push it any further.
The number of resulting rations did not surprise her - the monster was huge - but scared a bit, she would not be able to lift them all up even. "We might want to leave half here - who knows, next time you can be under the siege for days with that many monsters around, " explained Lilly to their kind host. "And we take the other half with us." I would be 10 additional rations each. Something totally transportable and, as she hoped, long lasting too.
The food was eaten up, the tableware and the kitchen cleaned up, and it seemed they had to go now. "You sure you don't want to come?" Lilly sighed again and looked at others "What is next on our list?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Adabra moved to asses Lilly and the others, Demetrios had taken the time to remove his chest piece and gauntlets, as the plate restricted his movements greatly. He sets the pieces of armor on the side, leaving him in a dark red gambeson, and after a moment or so, he begins to stretch his arms and roll his shoulders. As much as he liked the protection his armor provided him, it was good to get out of it (important to, even), especially during down times. Plus, it would be much easier to fix the doorframe given the ability to stretch your arms up more than just half way.
With being provided the lumber and tools needed, the paladin wastes no time in getting to work. He had always been fond of building or repairing things, being one to enjoy using his hands no matter what was thrown at him. He found it oddly therapeutic, even with the added company by those meandering about.
As Adabra speaks, Demetrios listens. Cognac hues would glance over her way every now and again to ensure to the woman that he was indeed listening, even if his eyes were looking at what he was doing and hands were doing something else. He had even been mindful about his hammering. When she was finished, his lips part to speak. "Truth be told, when you had come down and talked to us about carving the manticore, I had a feeling we wouldn't be able to convince you to go back to Phandalin. You seem to be handling your own quite well, despite the manticore issue, which hopefully won't happen again..."He take a second to finish hammering in a nail on the door frame, then gives Adabra a look. "But please do take those extra precautions and safety measures. The community needs you a great deal."The paladin gives her a respectful nod. "The letter should suffice. Thank you, Adabra."
Short rest: 6
When food had been served, Demetrios had just finished up fixing the door, using some of KD's ideas of using some of the metal for more reinforcement. "It should hopefully be stronger this time around."He comments as he sits with the others at the table after a quick washing up. A small chuff escapes him at Onu's toast, a small smile curling at the corner of his lips. He lifts his glass along with everyone else.
After the filling meal (in which Demetrios found out manticore tasted pretty good with the right chef's touch), the paladin redonned his armor, ensuring every thing was in place and every strap was secure and that Adabra's letter was safely tucked away. At Lilly's words, he pipes up, "We're heading to Gnomengarde now."(Assuming it's still somewhat bright out) "I believe we might be able to get a few hours of travel in before needing to set up a place to rest for the night..."

Making a show of cleaning up the table while singing Lily's praises of hearth and pan, Onu quickly scans each of his companions, getting a sense of just how hurt they are and how much they've been able to recover from their initial encounter.
'We could stay here for the evening, catch our breaths as it were and get going in the morning.' He looks to the halfling and the paladin, each of whom took the Manticore spikes through their chests. ''I'm sure our hostess would allow us to camp in her fields until we set out in the morning'
Artemis introduces himself to Adabra politely and with a wide smile after the battle, but soon disappears to be alone on the far side of her windmill. He sits on the ground with his back to the exterior wall of the tower. If found when initially missing from the group's meal, he's sweating and massaging one hand with another with a blank stare as the old man is lost in thought.
Adabra waited for the others to take their seats and begin to enjoy themselves before helping herself to her first bite. Those not accustomed to wild meats could tell it was different, but it was lean and well cooked. For someone more familiar, it was definitely less gamey than bear. Lilly's touch almost masked those flavours. Most notably, the meal was done with care. That was something the midwife never did when cooking for herself. A small smile tugged at her lips as she quietly enjoyed it. Continued sharing of kind and gentle words from her guests encouraged more hints of the corner of her lips twitching into smiles, maybe even light redness in her cheeks. The softest chuckle would leave her lips when the charismatic monk would make a presence with his toast, and she'd even raise her glass with them for the toast. Though when counting the glasses, she'd notice there was at least one missing. Her expression would drop a little in concern for the absence(s).
"Thank you. You are all very kind." Adabra would bow her head in gratitude for all the assistance she's received from each of you. It was obvious that she did not hand out praise often, but what stood out was the sincerity in her words and the small changes in her demeanor. Although the woman would clear her throat, or correct her posture, she was becoming more candid.
Lilly's gentle insistence tugged at nostalgia and Adabra's mouth would twitch once again. Her place was here now. "Although there are threats out there, there are also generous souls." The midwife would remind Lilly with a wink. "Out of those encounters, I've come across the unexpected." There was a small smile. She'd be okay. "You are welcome here any time."
Looking up to the sky for a moment, Adabra would then look to Demetrios to provide an encouraging nod. "It may have been a hearty meal for a lunch, but you do have plenty of day light available for travel to Gnomergarde, should you and your companions feel well enough to continue." Eyes would scan each of you over again while her hands find her hips. "Should the weight of your packs be of concern for your travels, you can label the items and I can have them delivered to your rooms in Phandalin."
Once the meal was complete, she'd stand up from her seat and assist Lilly and Onu with tidying up. "You are welcome to make yourselves at home in my fields," Nodding to Onu. "Catching your breath or not, I would still put you to work." She'd add a matter of factly. And as they cleaned, the midwife would specifically section out and portion out a meal for the missing. She'd go looking if they were gone suspiciously long and if another didn't.
KD walks in carrying two armloads of stacked manticore ribs just after the offer to ship heavy items to Phandalin. She pauses, grins, sets them down next to the table, washes herself down, and then joins the table late. She winks at Adabra as she digs into a very hearty lunch.
Later, she fiddles with a scrub brush and it begins smelling like a newly bisected fresh lemon. She leaves it near the washbasin in a silent gesture of thanks.
She's happy to keep going if others wish to move along, and she's also happy to stay if others need to stay.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Can we count lunch as a short rest? If so, Lilly takes her HD: 3 )
"If it is not that far," Lilly tried to remember the path - she did not pay that much attention before more concerned with the general beauty of the map, "we better go now. With monsters all around they might need help sooner. Probably."Not that she wanted to run into the next monster right away but if they were about to do it, better now while the excitement of victory is still keeping the spirit up and high! She wished Adabra all the best, adjusted her backpack, and was ready to face another trouble.
At KD's arrival, Adabra would nod in greeting. At the recognition of the fresh scent, her lip twitched in another hint of a smile. It was a sweet touch and one very much appreciated by the midwife.

Psst Lilly has:
(Post #99)Medicinal Herbs:3 bundles Description: Ingredients for poultices and potions
(Post #170) Adabra: "If you ever find yourself with some spare healing herbs on your travels, I could prepare some healing potions for you and your team."
(If you hand them to her before you leave she could have 3 ready for you on your next traverse through :3)
As the discussions and preparations to move on with the next leg of their journey, Adabra would dip her head to the group. She'd excuse herself for a moment. With slow steps, she'd make her way around a part of the building until she would come across a figure resting with his back against the wall. Pulling a clean cloth from her person, she'd crouch as she'd reach out and begin gently dabbing the sweat from his forehead. "Artemis was it?" The woman would then lift his chin to look at her. Her eyes would focus on his, searching, waiting until he'd break from his lost thoughts. "When you are ready, and have time to spare, do you want to walk about it?" She'd ask simply, sincerely, but wouldn't press. Then she'd place a hand over his to slowly coax him to stop rubbing it.
After giving him a brief moment, she'd begin, "Your companions are gearing to head to Gnomergarde very shortly." The brunette would offer him a hand up, should he accept it, she'd firmly pull him to his feet. "And next time," She'd hold him there. "We eat together. No exceptions. No excuses." She'd press a well packed meal against his chest that was prepared, wrapped and set aside for him. "Fruits of labour should be enjoyed together." After a stern staring, Adabra would let out a sigh as her expression would soften and she'd then present a warm smile. "Now, get moving." She'd make a shooing gesture.
Survival Check Don't forget that sweet sweet bonus you worked so hard for.

KD helps Lilly up and absentmindedly pats her on the back as they walk forward. "That was... risky. Who knew it could throw spikes? Uncle never told me..." and then she stops talking.

"Am I safe to assume you are Miss Adabra Gwynn?" He questions.

Adabra Gwynn
(Info & imagery)
KD/Anyone
(Interested in the Manticore and harvesting it for goodies? This is for you. There's so much potential indeed... You decide!)
At this point, the midwife would pause to asses the group more closely. Those who may not be comfortable with this process, she'd provide warning. With a smile and the utmost respect for those who'd rather skip these potentially sensitive or graphic scenes, she'd invite them to go explore the grounds where she has a garden with fresh vegetables and herbs. They were welcome to do some gathering if they wanted.
Manticore
First, the woman would circle the beast and start with a detailed overview from her new, experienced, and shared observations.
Monstrous Relationships. Manticores serve wicked masters that treat them well and provide regular prey. A manticore might provide aerial support for an orc horde or a hobgoblin army. Another could serve as a hunting companion for a hill giant chief, or guard the entrance to a lamia’s lair.
Spikes
"Let's start easy." Adabra picks up the tail from below the spikes and holds it out to KD.
Spike Count: 12/24 remain (12 were used)
Teeth
The woman would pop her brows.
Claws
Adabra would lift a paw and pass it over.
Obvious idea: More trophies, trinkets or jewelry
Inspired idea: Perhaps could be engineered into some tools and/or fishing hooks?
Hide
"Best to salvage what's possible." The woman's nose would twitch at the scorched fur scent.
Butchering
"Now we're getting to the real meat of things." That gave you some hope that you were nearing the end of the road (text). Maybe. This process would take time to go over by sections, but eventually with a bit of work, the manticore could be harvested with fair portions. "I really hope we have a chef..." Adabra would admit as she'd look back over the group.
Sustenance!
Raw Meat: Fresh food to cook, preserve, barter and/or sell
Small Bones: Broth flavouring
Extras
Large Bones: Strong repurpose potential.
Head: Large Status Trophy
"Wash up when you're done."
just an unstable unicorn.
"Ha!...(ow)... well you lot have more promise than one might have thought.
"Never dealt with a man-ti-co-re before," (the word was long and new, she made sure to say it properly) "but should not be that difficult, right?" She stopped in front of the corpse, like a sculptor in front of a chunk of marble, contemplating a future masterpiece.

Dice
"Demetrios Zalaoras," The paladin introduces himself.
"Thankfully we had arrived just in time before it could try to get another installment then..." He comments.
"If you do decide to stick around, we can definitely look into getting you something stronger." He flashes Arty a confident smile.

Onu quietly response under his breath 'things were hairy there for a minute, but I agree, think we've fallen into something good here'
Adabra actually cracked a few genuine smiles throughout the whole process.

(Short rest hit die... 6)

You seem to be handling your own quite well, despite the manticore issue, which hopefully won't happen again..." He take a second to finish hammering in a nail on the door frame, then gives Adabra a look. "But please do take those extra precautions and safety measures. The community needs you a great deal." The paladin gives her a respectful nod. "The letter should suffice. Thank you, Adabra."
Short rest: 6
When food had been served, Demetrios had just finished up fixing the door, using some of KD's ideas of using some of the metal for more reinforcement. "It should hopefully be stronger this time around." He comments as he sits with the others at the table after a quick washing up.
At Lilly's words, he pipes up, "We're heading to Gnomengarde now." (Assuming it's still somewhat bright out) "I believe we might be able to get a few hours of travel in before needing to set up a place to rest for the night..."

(Can we count lunch as a short rest? If so, Lilly takes her HD: 3 )
"If it is not that far," Lilly tried to remember the path - she did not pay that much attention before more concerned with the general beauty of the map, "we better go now. With monsters all around they might need help sooner. Probably." Not that she wanted to run into the next monster right away but if they were about to do it, better now while the excitement of victory is still keeping the spirit up and high!

DM nudge
Psst Lilly has:
Description: Ingredients for poultices and potions
