Cale rubs his hand on Inglenook's head in a manner which seems affectionate but is also clearly intended to ruffle him up. "If you ever get to see what I do best, shorty, then it means we are much closer friends than either of us thinks"
As he leaps silently up the cellar stairs to leave and scout ahead, he whispers loudly to Thaddeus "Try to spot me prof, I could use your notes when I get back"
Once into the open, Cale tries to stick to cover and shadows while moving up to 100ft along their intended route, scanning the surroundings for signs of danger (and anything shiny)
Thaddeus turns towards Cale…. And he’s gone! He looks around the room quickly 14 and spots Cale tip toeing towards the shadows, obviously trying to be sneaky
He removes his spectacles and huffs some hot breath on them, wipes them on a bit of his shirt and then puts them back on and looks directly at Cale. “Ah there you went! Keep practicing Cale, you almost got past these old eyes that time. I thought you disappeared for a second but It was just a bit of dust on my glasses.” He winks at the man and grins.
Travis watches Kiari and the boy go and shakes his head. "It will be a sad day when the world crushes that child's exuberance," he says. "Let us not let it be today."
He then watches Cale attempt to creep ahead. He is glad he is in chain mail and not a candidate to be a sneaky scout.
Kiari would return back to the party in the cellar to find Cale gone, but the folks in the cellar were able to catch a glimpse of him as he scampered back to street level..
@Cale
You would be able to clearly spot the ring of torches around the keep. The drumbeats are coming from the front gate. There is shouting coming from the parapets of the keep, but it is too faint to make out. If you continue to take the road to the keep, there would not be any prizes to collect aside from some chickens and mules out front of some now smoldering houses.
Kirari comes running up to the group, attempting to be quiet, but failing in her urgency. Words burst forth from her. "Must get to keep." Takes a breath. "Quickly." Takes another breath. And glances around at the group visually concerned, but continues quickly. "There is a dragonborn at the front gate, and he has demanded to see our champion. He wants to square off against one of the heroes who have been taking out the cultists and kobolds behind enemy lines." She hesitates taking a breath again having dashed the whole way. "Cale?" Glancing around, then shaking her head seeing their lack of concern thinking quickly that maybe he's gone Rogue. Cough. Then continuing again. "He has hostages, including a family, and he says he will release them if someone can best him in one-on-one combat. Escobert and Nighthill both made the request of Beatrice to find us. Beatrice has Tommy and I returned to find you, she was nearly at the end of the tunnel when she found me."

Cale will sneak a bit closer, hoping to be able to make out enemy formations (basically going on until he sees the first sign of danger so he can report back)
Travis listens to Kiari's account of what Beatrice told her. His face stern, he slowly shakes his head, eyes cast downward. "Let it not be the boy's family," he says quietly, though the stone in the pit of his stomach tells him it very likely they are the hostages.
He lifts his head, his eyes moving as he looks at each one of his companions in turn. Then he slowly nods. "I will fight the dragonborn," he says. "We need to go now. I think it best we enter through the sally port and emerge from the keep. Perhaps Nighthill has a fine weapon or shield that I might bring into battle, along with whatever blessings and support you all might offer me."
Professor Thaddeus looks Travis up and down, taking his measure. “Yes... you look to be strong enough...” he looks at the others “what guarantee do we have that this isn’t some sort of trap... though I suppose if they have hostages... we don’t have much of a choice...” He frowns in frustration at the predicament they find themselves. “Maybe we can give him some support... I might be able to find a weakness in this dragonborn’s form and offer you some pointers during the fight.”
"We must try, Beatrice was in such a rush. I don't think there is much time. Where is Cale?" Kirari continues to look about trying to spot him. "Did something happen or is he scouting?"
"Cale moved ahead to get a better look at the forces by the keep,"Travis says. "We need to find him and get back to the keep. I can go look for him, but I am not equipped for scouting with this armor on."
You are able to see hundreds of figures that have descended on the keep. Many have sacks of loot slung over their shoulders, and kobolds are holding torches. There are even a few drakes on leashes held by cultists. The circle does not seem to have an opening around the keep, and they are all slowly stepping closer to the keep's perimeter. They are about 75 yards away from it right now.
While you have been pretty sneaky on the way up, you step on a branch that goes "snap" loud enough to catch the attention of a kobold nearby. It turns away and starts walking toward you to get a better look. "Hail Tiamat?" it asks out into the night.
Inglenook sighs heavily. "When will this ever end? I'm struggling without a hot meal and a pitcher of ale and some rest."
He looks up at the others, and then to Travis "I don't have much to offer you in the way of help if you face the dragonborn, apart from maybe a distraction of some kind. I can make a small object emit light, or a smell. Something that you could wear that I could activate if things are getting difficult? Might be enough to give you an advantage? Ooh, what about making something on your person smell of vomit or excrement? That could put the enemy off for sure! Or..."He thinks carefully, " Oh, yes! I could make something on you shine when the enemy is least expecting it!
Kirari thinks for a moment. "There was this Priest of Selune that used to annoy us as acolytes because we swore, and yes we did, that he polished his amulet so brightly just to reflect in our faces during study. Thinking back I think it was a spell, but on the metal of the amulet, it could be blinding, " but he turned out to be ok. "One of the orphan children in the home the temple kept was being bullied and he granted the kid Sanctuary. We must have laughed the whole week about how that bully tried and tried, as you can imagine the bully wasn't the wisest of children. Its too bad we couldn't try that here, but it'd definitely be figured out. Be a fun fight though."

@DM:
Cale tries his best kobold voice as he squeaks from the bushes "Hail Tiamat! Boss needs us at the keep!", readying his blades as he does.
Deception 18
If the kobold doesn't buy it, he waits until the kobold gets close (or looks to be giving a warning) and then attacks with both weapons (using Inspiration to get advantage, and therefore sneak attack)
Travis listens to the others' suggestions for the one-on-one combat. "Well, I would hope I do not need to cheat," he says. "But I feel it would only be fair for me to consult a tactical advisor before we duel." He nods toward Thaddeus. "And to receive the blessings of your goddess." He nods to Kirari.
"Of course happy to offer her Guidance and should things go badly, her Mercy . But they won't. Does it seem to you that Cale takes too long? How long has he been gone?" Kirari asks not having seen how long ago he'd left.

@Dm I'm not sure time line for above, so will wait for your queue.

Tommy and Beatrice both nod, and Tommy gives a salute. They both rush through the tunnel toward the keep.
