Seeing that everyone is doing their best to force the song from their mind, Pardot places a hand on his own chest and suddenly feels the strength of the bear flow through him. ((8)) He then struggles himself to keep the song down ((con check: 22)).
holding the song back from his head ((does the towel wrap have any effect?)), he then looks to Ludolf and says, "The book was a good theory. Though perhaps if it was sung by someone just passing by... could it have been intentionally brought here?"
((sorry for absence. It's been a busy couple of days))
You remember speaking with a very old eladrin while you were doing research for your book he had a lot of stories about the initial construction of the Keep and he he did make mention of a Cellar underneath the House of Rest. During the initial construction of the Court of Air there was an interest to move some of the less valuable books out of the main collection to promote folks to read and do research on broader range of topics without the hassle of the Avowed. It was decided to go under the House of Rest for ease of access and to give visitors things to do near their lodging, like a free library. The area contained a kitchen for simple snacks and drinks and became very successful but as time went on visitors would leave their own books in the area and the collection began to grow and grow with all sorts of commonplace books. The leadership at that time shut down the cellar to prevent this proliferation of redundant knowledge. There was no organization or leadership and it remained dormant for centuries. About 50 years ago Varnyr was placed in charge of the Cellar in order to reclaim and curate the collection with the idea of reopening it under actual leadership and guidelines. Currently there are four inhabitants of the Firefly Cellar, Varnyr who you have met. Ebder Smallstone, the custodian, and his daughter Gailby as well as a cook, Crinkle who is an old kenku.
There was also a legend you came across that seemed to hint at a passage from the Firefly Cellar into the deep chambers and catacombs underneath main collection. You don't know anything more than that.
Varnyr looks around, "I don't see the old man around here. He could be downstairs in his quarters.... Or maybe he is quarantined in one of the 'high security' areas to the north or south."

Seeing Klin walk away from the others Ludolf follows him. "Perhaps we should still stay together Klin? I thought we perhaps should try and find and talk to Ebder. Or do you have other suggestions on how to conduct the investigation into the source of this curse?" He asks the monk impatiently.
(Bah, had a post, and it got eaten before it posted)"
"Well, if there's a secret passage to further below, perhaps the curse has wafted up like a foul smell, affecting minds instead of nostrils?"Daventry sighs.
"We've been doing a lot of delving. I'm going to need a seaside vacation right away, I think."
With Klin, Ludolf, and Daventry wandering off, Triäsa is left with Varnyr. "I am sorry if we are asking too many questions of you. We are just trying to get up to speed. What exactly are the 'high security' areas you mentioned?"
The old sun elf smiles at Triäsa "We are all here for knowledge so please no question is a bother. The doors to the north and south have been set aside for those more severely affected by the curse. We had a young man kill himself the first day here." She motions toward the broken table. "He could not stop himself from singing and the madness was too much to bare and threw himself from the upper level. Very messy." Her eyes drop and tone softens as she speaks. "Since then Fembris instructed anyone who could not control themselves into those areas and deemed them 'High Security'. A silence spell is perpetually cast beyond those doors to ease the suffering but unfortunately many of them are unable to eat or drink... The situation is dire for them I am sure some will die soon if we don't find a cure or the source."
@Klin You look around your immediate area and notice the broken table has what appears to be dried blood and bits of hair stuck in the cracks consistent with sun elf's story you do not see anything else of interest in this area. As you walk away from the table toward the stacks you are barraged by 20 books that fly off the shelves with an unexpected violence.
Klin make a DC13 Dex save on a fail take 3. Take half damage on a success.
Fembris's singing grows louder her eyes continue to dart side to side as sweat and panic are evident on her face.
(If you are going somewhere else to explore let me know where.)
Triäsa asks, "Has anyone tried a sleep spell for the victims? That might provide a brief reprieve at least. Could probably force some liquids for them and help them a bit."
Varny smiles, "I like you. Thoughtful. We did try that, it seemed to work for a time but as soon as the afflicted woke they began their chant anew. The more seriously affected would continue the song in their sleep like a fitful dream they could not escape. We also tried various restoration magics and even tried to directly remove the curse. It was affective... for a few moments and then the song would return and when it did it was worse. Louder, faster so we stopped our effort to treat the individual and focused our efforts here trying to find the source."

Triäsa nods to Varny with a smile. "Thank you. It was just a thought. Of course, you already tried it." She looks towards the doors to the north and south, feeling a little anxious that beyond are the most serious affected by the curse. She looks around for Ludolf and the others. "Perhaps we should take a look downstairs?" she suggests.
"Yes, continuing the investigation downstairs sounds good Triäsa. We should try to locate Ebder while we're there. Let's investigate this mystery together now." Ludolf says, looking to Daventry to take point as they are moving into, to them, hither unknown territory, during a quarantine.
Varnyr motions all around you in response to Klin, "The least affect wait for food, drink and the hope of respite here. The others are being cared for to the north and south." It's hard to say but there are at least 75 people sitting throughout the stacks here. All different races and genders. They are mostly visitors to the keep but a handful of the Avowed are mixed in.
(It sounds like most of you want to head downstairs but just let me know where you are heading if not)
You walk back across the room toward the west and the set of stairs that led down to the next level. The firefly lamps flicker around you and the sounds muffled chanting bounce off the walls. You descend this set of spiral stairs down that open into a very long corridor just wide enough for you to pass single file.
It’s cold down here. A low, barrel-vaulted ceiling crowds the already narrow passage. Light from a firefly lamp that hangs on a hook in the wall is inadequate to illuminate the entire space. While firefly lamps hang every ten feet not all are lit. Some hang swaying in the dim light with nothing but dead flies lying on the bottom. As you look down this claustrophobic corridor you seem to see the outline of a door at the far end of the corridor, maybe 60 feet away.
There are no sound other than the ones you left behind.
(What is your marching order if you continue down this hallway?)

"Daventry, you want to lead the way?" Triäsa asks, looking around for the woman. "I will stay near the back." She also pulls out a dagger from her belt and casts Light on it.
(Not sure who all is going. Daventry - Klin - Ludolf - Triäsa - Pardot maybe for an order?)

Daventry nods. "Seems only fitting. I've got a seaside room in the Magnificent Mansion, and a few bottles of whiskey to get to. So let's get delving and get to the root of this, aye?"
She casts her own starlight upon her rapier, hoists her shield, and once more into the breach she leads, mage hand helping open the door at the end of the corridor. Despite the light, she moves quietly.

Pardot will be happy to follow the others. Though he would likely be closer to the front. Maybe second or third so that he can keep his keen eyes out for danger.
