"No need to think of a werewolf" says Khessa. "The goblin has most likely looted them from the store because of their value. So... shall we continue? I'd say wo go and check the nearest house..." and with that, if nobody objects, she leads the party there.
Khessa asks the guards about this house: "Seems all shut... Maybe the goblins did not enter. Do you know something about this house or these runes? Who lived here? A wizard?"
The goblin stood strong despite being hit by the arrow and the half-elf moved behind the closest haystack. For a moment, a brief moment, he thought himself beyond the reach of the enemy’s bow. Oh, how mistaken he was. The assailant repositioned and made an unlikely shot with uncanny precision. Sorjen didn’t even feel the bite of the steel.
His wound bleed, quite profusely, but there was no pain and that, he knew, was a bad sign. There were only three he reasons for a wound to carry no pain. Either the weapon to inflict the wound was coated with some numbing substance, usually a poison, or the wound had been too light. Or, in the worst case, the wound was too heavy. I should have used Zephyr Strike, he said to himself. The spell would have doubled his speed, allowing him to take complete cover outside the stable. I need to be less conservative with magic. A hard learned lesson.
He was about to target the goblin with his Hunter’s Mark, when the battle ended. Khessa asked about his state, while the others discussed about their next steps. Sorjen removed the arrow and examined its tip. There seemed to be no toxin. So deep wound it is. He was strangely calm about his situation.
“Not so great, Golden Locks.” He admits throwing the arrow away. “The wound is not hurting, which tells me it was quite heavy. I’m probably at about a third of my physical resistance.”Maybe it would be better to wait at the inn. But then if he found more enemies the fight would be harder. “It’s better if I don’t take the chance of getting into a fight alone, besides, if I move behind the group, separated and in stealth, I should be fine.”
"Very good then, Shadow Stalker" Khessa helps the half-elf bandaging the wound. "Just be careful," her voice softens even more "I've lost just about enough persons who were dear to me".
What is now that light in her eyes, before she turns again her attention to the exploration? Only time will tell...
Khessa explains: "Since it is all locked, maybe we do not need to lockpick... goblins do not pass through walls. On the other hand, should the guards know that this is the house of a wizard... then there might be something useful inside. Something that might help us to free the village." and she keeps waiting for the guard to tell what they know about the house or his owner. In such a small village, Khessa really expects that villagers know each other quite well...
“This cottage is very interesting. Khessa if you’d like to check the other buildings before trying this one, I’m game. And hopefully we’ll hear from the guards on what this cottage contains.” Kramyra stares at the runes trying to figure it out while she waits for a reply from either Khessa or the guards.
Khessa turns to Kan: "Nobody answers... but this house sounds more and more intriguing. We could find some magical help inside... I think the door's lock needs some of your 'attention'. Would you try to open, pretty please?"
Ev’alish says: “Mayhaps the runes art a damaging trap for people who attempt to break in. I doth agree with your earlier statement, Khessa, there art no goblins within. I suggest moving to the next house.”
Khessa reflects on Ev'alish's words: "Guess you might be right, my friend. The runes could be a protection. But I'm not too eager to neglect this house... I think we might find something helpful, even more if there is a magical protection. Let's try the window's shutters. They are not warded by the runes. Kan, do you think you can open them for us? Else," she sheates her greatsword and readies her maul "I could try a more direct approach"

(Would they happen to be draconian/elvish/giant runes?)

Kan sees everyone milling about the locked house.
“If we really need to open it up, I have some skill with locksmith’s tools. But perhaps it’s better to call out to someone inside first?”
If it ends up needing lock picking, here is a roll so as not to hold things up. 8

OK, Khessa rolls for history then (12) but what about the guards? What's their answer? Do they know who lived here? And if he was a wizard?

(Has anyone knocked?). Kramyra heads up to the front door and knocks.

Kan makes the attempt. And it just ends in him cursing at the lock and banging on it a bunch.
“Yeah, let’s just come back.”
