Ulmwin is seen thinking about it a bit more, then nods. "Yeah, I think if we can just push things a little bit further it should break. So, we'd light a fire on one of the two sides, and given how we know there are probably more tethers on the other side..." he says, taking just one step closer as a small ball of fire manifests in his hand. One he tries to throw through the portal.

Produce flame: Attack: 19 Damage: 4

While it presumably goes through, he's not expecting to see much.

"...Maybe we should call Woopsie? I feel like he'd know how to start a big fire-"

"I know a way to make a big fire, but I'd rather not use it  unless we had to." Randy gently touches a pocket where a certain gem resides.

Coljin steps further away from the portal again, watching closely at what is going on.  "I don't like this at all.  I feel like we are just guessing."  He looks very uncomfortable not having a clue what to do.

"I'm reasonably confident about my hypothesis- But I admit it's not exactly a common topic in books or stories... Maybe I'd ought to make a song about ten easy steps to shut down rogue portals..."

"True, if nothing else this should make a good story or song."

"Pity that Holger isn't here. He could have had a starring roll using some fire spell to burn off the stuff on the other side."

((Somehow I missed that you'd produced flame, and was thinking you were still all discussing plans.... whoops. Heading out atm, but I'll get a post up this afternoon!))

The flame lobbed through the portal hits a small shrub and begins smoking and smoldering, the flame slowly catching as the party discusses things. Some of the smoke drifts through the portal, but the fire itself remains on the other side. Ulmwin notices the swirls of magic forming twisting, writhing nodules that occasionally twist apart and disperse, the portal seeming to weaken momentarily as they do. If he points them out to the others, these clusters of magic are barely visible as a distortion in the air, like a heat shimmer that swirls and twists in on itself.

"Ah, look, it already seems to be working..! Make sure none of it comes back through, I'll add some more." 

(Ulmwin will do it a few more times probably, barring they notice anything.) 

The nodules form faster, becoming more visible to the others as wisps of smoke get trapped and twisted within them. A few burst or disincorporate on their own, the portal shuddering and shrinking slightly when they do.

"Will it explode or somethin' when it shuts completely?"

Dornikal asks, taking a measured step back.

"...I've no idea!" Ulmwin admits. He throws one more little lob of fire, before he agrees it's probably time to take a few steps back and watch from a safe(r) distance.

Randy switches back to his bow and keeps an arrow knocked ...just in case.  He keeps a healthy distance between him and the portal. 

Fire grows around the portal on the other side, but it seems any breeze is keeping things contained, the portal shimmering and shrinking, though it seems that there are a half dozen of the nodules of twisting energy that are keeping things anchored.

From a distance still, Coljin just watches and tries to fathom and learn a bit what is happening.  He stands ready to throw some loud Cantrips at anything that pops through the portal.

"It's certainly persistent..." Ulmwin says, annoyed. "Should we call in some help to see if anyone else may have an idea, or..?"

"Can you see what's keeping it open?"
