Zokk ponders the universe as everyone rests, and you are not further attacked by the bugs while you do so. You find some measure of hope in that... if their numbers are so whittled down by throwing themselves at you, perhaps there is not much more to face before the job is done... on the other hand, they could likewise be biding their time, and lay in wait for you somewhere ahead.

Coljin does a quick walk-through of the cavern they are resting in, making sure everyone seem to be at least in a decent shape of health for the coming push into the cave.
After that, he will look at the walls, as he has seen the unworked gems in some of the walls waiting to be mined.
"Dornikal, we may have to come back here, or mine some few of these. I need some worth of diamonds available for one of my new spells I can now get from Mieliiki. And it is worth having the spell. I can finally bring someone back from the brink of death if needed, but it only works right near the time of death. But it uses up diamonds as the spell focus payment to cast the spell. Do you think any of the gems in these walls are diamonds?"
((Coljin, you can give me an INT check, Dornikal can make an INT check with advantage and proficiency.))
You probably get the sense that the dragonborn would not object to you taking gems from the mine, after all, you are helping to liberate it from this menace.

There's... something odd here. You move around the room, finding all sorts of different gems... ones you wouldn't expect to find occurring naturally all in once spot like this. Investigating further, you find some bits of precious metal ore... Even if the accounts that the Wastes were not always desert are true, it seems unusual. You'd not expect them to be found all together, even before taking into account the gems found here.
((If Dornikal shares his insight, anyone with... History, Arcana or Nature proficiency can make such a roll.))

"This place isn't right... Gems like this," he'll pull out a rough diamond and then walk a short distance and pull out an emerald , "They don't show up this close together."
He'll then walk over to a vein of gold and say,
"And while there can be gold by diamonds it hasn't been found in meh lifetime anywhere that aye know of." He taps some amethyst with the diamond, "This is right, but what are the chances of all this happening together?"
He pauses and considers it a moment and his eyes light up,
"It must be a blessing from Dumathoin! All these treasures from the heart of the earth in one place!"
His reverence for the mines (and many gems) is almost palpable now as he goes from pocket to pocket whispering praises to Dumathoin.
You surmise that if it isn't natural, it must have been placed here. Dornikal's supposition that it's a blessing of his god is one possibility, but you know of plenty of creatures that hoard gems and gold, dragons primary among them... though from the lack of worked gem or items, it it were a dragon or the like, they weren't obtaining them from any civilizations that produced jewelry or other items. Beyond that, for a hoard like this, draconic or otherwise, to have been encased in rock like this would have either taken magic or a mind-bendingly long time... on an order of magnitude you can't really envision.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Randy grunts "Thanks." and takes the samples. He only gives the gems a cursory glance, mainly seeing if they've been worked at all, and then looks more closely at the stone matrix to see if he can identify it.
Nature:14
It's rock and it's hard with the edges slightly crumbly. He shakes his head in frustration. "I'm no mining expert and I'd probably need to see this in full sunlight to know what I'm looking at! Dornikal, can you tell what kind of stone the matrix is?"
(Not sure what this thing is going on about. I just edited the text?)
Zokk isn't sure of a reason, but magic could certainly be the cause... but you're becoming aware that 'because magic' can be an unsatisfying answer to just about any 'Why' question.

While the rest are staring at the walls and thinking hard, Coljin just begins smiling broadly.
"What this means, is after we are done with the bugs, or maybe before if we are lucky, I can find a few Diamonds here as spell components."
Once everyone is done with the gem talk, he says, "So, let's move back to the bug hunting, I think everyone is pretty healthy again. No? Well, that is unless Dornikal finds a diamond just waiting in the wall to hammer out."
Dornikal will let Randy know what type of stone it is around them as he looks for a diamond that fits Coljin's needs. He is generally happy everyone seems to really be appreciating his god's gifts and geology in general.
Investigation:13

He runs his hands down the walls inspecting the various gem nodes.

"Pretty sure that this collection of stuff isn't natural, Dornikal."
Randy brings his lantern up close to the wall of wealth and peers very closely at the collection to see if this could be some petrified ancient hoard.
Investigation: 5 He shakes his head. "Not enough light to tell...." he mumbles to himself.
He picks at the wall seeing if he can pry a sample or two loose.
"No, of course it isn't! Dumathoin brought it all together so we could experience all of his wonders in one place!"
Dornikal, seeing Randy scratching ineffectively at the wall will chip him off a few gems (and stone).
"Like this, at an angle and lightly - ye don't want to damage anything."
He instructs reverently.
Randy grunts "Thanks." and takes the samples. He only gives the gems a cursory glance, mainly seeing if they've been worked at all, and then looks more closely at the stone matrix to see if he can identify it.
