“They didn’t tag me so bad, I guess. Thanks for the assist,” she touches Caelyn’s shoulder. “Everyone good?” Pepper sheathes both swords and picks up her bow again.
Pepper looks to the others in case anyone needs healing. While the others check in, she picks up one of the bugbear javelins, goes back to the elevator, and tries to jam it open (not to break it, just to keep the door open) with the javelin. “Want to make sure to stays here. I also like the light.”

Pepper jams a javelin into the door to try and keep it open and continue to shed dim light out about 20 feet. (You'll need a light source to see into the pit or to explore further.)
For those with darkvision, or if someone lights a torch or otherwise provides light:
Looking down into the 10' deep excavation pit, you see a warforged corpse at the bottom, its head struck from its shoulders. Eleven other warforged in various states of disrepair sit chained together on the pit floor. Climbing the walls of the pit seems easy enough.
There is also a 15-foot-square shed on the side of the excavation pit opposite the lift.
Cyril rolls his shoulder where he took a heavy hit from the bugbear, wincing as it protests. "Been better, been worse. Those guys have a heck of a punch. I'm thinking this changes the game a bit. They'll know we're coming now."
“New plan?” Pepper says as she stows her bow, lights a torch, and surveys the pit from the edge. “Caelyn and Cyril check out the shack quiet like while the rest of us stand here with torches and look like friendly targets?”

Caelyn nods to Pepper as the fight ended We make a good tag team
She moves back to pick up her bow as well and moves closer to the pit. As they prepare Caelyn moves to Ashe and hands him a torch Use this in a moment. We will move ahead out of the light first.
If Cyril moves with her Caelyn will take the lead following the edge of the pit (not going in it just yet) and having her bow ready if needed. If they get close to the shack she will switch to her rapier instead.

The wooden shed contains a small child covered in dust, wearing the once-fine, now-ruined livery of a House Orien. The boy sobs, shrunken into one corner, his face slack. Stale bread, smelly water, a pile of rags, and a chamber pot round out the accommodations.

Ashe will follow the group. He looks into the shed and frowns in pity at the boy. "You must be Alden d'Orien's son. Don't worry, we're here to help you. Come with us,"He murmurs, coaxing the boy out.
Cyril nods and sets out with Caelyn, his eyes flickering from here to there as they move to the shed.

His jaw tenses as he sees the boy inside, anger churning bile in his stomach. To see such a young boy treated as such, used as a pawn and less than a living being, sets him on edge and fully willing to knock some sense into those responsible.
No - only one is dead, but the eleven other warforged are in various states of disrepair and sit chained together on the pit floor.
Caden is nearly catatonic and does not respond to Ashe's coaxing. He wears old, but sturdy manacles about his wrists, and they are chained to an iron loop attached to the rocky floor.

After the fight, Pernach cleans their blade and slings it over a shoulder while the others look around. When they peer into the pit and see the others, a low growling sound emanates from Pernach.
They light a torch and look for something like a crowbar (or something that can be improvised as one).
"See if you can get the manacles off, I'll keep an eye out." The words struggle to pass through his clenched jaw, but Cyril steps back out to watch over the area, trusting in the other two to try and free the boy.
(Assuming she succeeds with that and the locks come off)
Ha.. there we go. With ease the locks open and Caelyn removes the manacles. Thats better isnt it? she asks trying to get some response
Come on then, lets get out of here she says as she tries to help the boy stand to move out of the shed and to walk him back around the edge of the pit hoping the others keep watch as she walks the boy out.
While Caelyn easily picks the manacle lock, she discovers it has some kind of oily substance smeared all over the lock. (Make a DC15 Con save or become poisoned and fall unconscious for 24 hours.)
Pernach attampts to break the chains holding the other warforged (Make a DC15 Athletics check to break the chain.)
