With Jade heading down the trail, you all begin to follow her, eagerly awaiting what might follow on the trail towards Axholm. Dazlyn rushes ahead towards Jade, whereas Norbus stands behind the group as you all move towards the stone steps leading up the mountain ridge. Koric, as the group moves, you take a look at one of the zombie corpses, but don't find much of real interest there. The undead energy here is certainly strong, but nothing seems unusual about these undead in particular
Random Encounter Roll: 3 (No encounter yet again!)
As you all walk along the trail, you think about the dangers that may lie ahead, especially the story you hear about the banshee and the cultists. Thinking on the topic of the Cult for a moment, Koric, give me a history check, and Lux, give me a religion check. Jade, as you walk along, you don't really notice all that much, other than the fact the ridge you are traveling on has grown significantly in height, reaching what appears to be about a 60 foot drop on each side of you. The rest of you, is there anything you do as you travel?
Thinking about the cult of Myrkul, you try and think about if you know anything about them from the literature you’ve read. You remember that the cult had some sort of non-human leader that served as the voice of Myrkul on the material plane, but who or what it was eludes you
Keeping an eye out to their surroundings, Jade gets a bit nervous as the ridge gets higher as they travel. Looking over the sides from time to time, her slight fear of heights is noticeable. She continues to check so they are not ambushed from below.
Liri considers the situation as they move along the trail. "What will the climb be like into the stronghold?" she asks the dwarves. "If it will be a very difficult one, I'm wondering if I might be able to help by carrying the rope up and securing it. I used to see the large spiders in the trees around my home. They were nimble on any surface and seemingly at any angle."
Koric, who has been pensive since the discussion of climbing, nods enthusiastically at Liri's suggestion. "After a rest I will be able to help, should somebody fall, but likely as not I will be the one who falls."
He looks down at his hands, more suited to writing and turning the pages of books, but now sporting a few callouses as a result of the life he has been forced to adopt after the Fall. He manages a faint smile, "Either way, it will be a new experience for me."
He keeps walking, apparently a little less concerned about the climb that lies ahead, his mind wandering. After a time he says, "I've been thinking about the cult. They usually have a non-human leader -- the 'Voice' I believe they are called. I suspect that the Banshee might be that leader. Perhaps if we can...ah...remove it...their resolve might falter?" Then he shrugs. "Or be even more angry."
Norbus answers "Axeholm is settled pretty high up the mountain it's in, but more than that, we have to get to the roof of it to get in. It's about a 50 foot climb over extremely rough terrain, but we've got the gear to make it work"
@Lux, still need a religion check from you before we can move on!
You think on the cult of Myrkul for a moment, knowing Myrkul has long been at odds with your patron Lathander, trying to recall anything in the teachings of your god about Murkul and his cult. You recall that the cult was once incredibly powerful, but when Myrkul's influence began to wane, a great moment of victory for the followers of Lathander, the leader and many of the cultists were killed. You assume their arrival at the abandoned and haunted Axholm that the dwarves described must have been before the cult's great fall, so what may have happened to them after is unknown to you. Given all this and the current situation with Talos, you don't expect many of the cultists to have survived, if any are still in Axeholm. Still, whatever the situation was with this Banshee is unlikely to have been resolved by the current chaos, as a banshee's curse is even harder to break than a cultist's devotion, and centuries of being haunted by a banshee can infest a place with all sorts of undead and dark magic
@All
As you travel, the light of the day slowly fades as it turns to dusk. As you walk along the trail, about an hour from where you plan to make camp, you suddenly reach higher part of the ridge than before, with about an 80 foot drop on either side. Suddenly, the wind that has been blowing for the entire trail thus far today stops dead, and the air becomes stale and eerily silent. Ahead of you, far down the path, you see two wights. They have the figures of dwarves, dressed in the tatters of what appear to be mages robes worn down over centuries of undeath. It's unclear if they notice you, but if the do, they pay little mind to you. Norbus and Dazyln are cautious, keeping a close eye on the two figures but not moving towards them. What do you all do?
"Norbus, Dazlyn, have you run into these types of creatures before? Anyway getting around them or are we in for another fight? Or, is there another way around?" Jade continues to size them up from a distance, trying to discern if they have noticed them or not.
Dazlyn turns to you and whispers “There ain’t no way to Axeholm that I know of besides this one. Pure uncharted wilderness besides this here trail. As for those… things, never seen a spirit like that in me life”. Make an insight check if you want to determine if they have noticed you, and a stealth check if you want to get any closer
The path is carved into the rock face and encrusted in moss. For the purposes of movement, it is functionally level ground with the area around it. The wights don't appear to be moving at all.
Norbus responds "Possibly? Don't trust undead much though. I would be wary of assuming any spirit that's lingered around as long as those two must have with those clothes has anything but violent intentions"
Koric listens to the exchange, not entirely sure what to think. His expression is one of growing horror, but he bites his tongue until Norbus finishes.
"Negotiating with the undead is a perilous affair if one is not skilled in the arts of Necromancy, which I am not. But..." he waves in the direction of the two wights, "...you are welcome to try." He makes the sign of Mystra, and backs away a little.
Jade turns to face her new friends. "So I figure we have a couple of options. We can try and move forward, maybe they are sentinels of some sort and are just there to warn us of what is ahead? I do have a spell that can assist all with being stealthy if we want to try and sneak by them (pass without trace), I know we are not at our best after the fight that just took place, so that's an option. Or, seeing we are trying to help rid the world of beings like this, we can fight. Thoughts?"

@DM: Just checking: if the path a narrow tunnel-like thing as it appears on the map, and are they coming towards us, or away?
