Eline nods and returns his smile, taking a look at the receipt. Her smile seems to broaden at his encouraging words, though her emerald green eyes scan the note. "Well, I tried. Sometimes I feel a little inadequate next to those who wield the blade as deftly as you or the others. To be honest, my knowledge of actual spells is limited, so I only have access to a very few."
Her smile fades again though, deep in thought. "I wonder what that ring is. As far as I'm concerned, anything worth their weight in 400 gold just screams 'magical' to me. I wouldn't put it past any of these Uttolots and their goons to get their hands on something this valuable, and not want to use its supposed magical properties--let alone to use it to heal some freak sickness. I dunno, Trem. What do you think?" She turns briefly, watching Reginald work also. "And how about a copper for your thoughts, Reginald?"
Eline sends her invisible mage hand to caress and feel the frozen face of the frozen statue-esque elven figure in the bed. She has a hunch that this is the store owner, Verla Pelc, now dead of this strange, freezing sickness.
(3 Medicine Check to get a read on a potential time of death.)
"It's kinda sad, seeing her there like that. My first instinct would be to have her buried properly, and the store burned to ash, but I feel that even being in this place is risky. Think it best to just leave her be where she rests?"
Roxaria looks over the list and nods approvingly to Trem, “This is a good find. I think Elro should see this and provide his input. I’ll let him know to send a graves team out here to care for the bodies.” She looks to Eline, “I appreciate what you did back there to that elf wielding the crossbow. I think another well-placed bolt would have finished me.”
Roxaria leaves Eline and Trem and returns to the front of the building with Kha and Vauthok. “Anything else useful from him? Or shall we turn him in at the Town Hall?” she looks over the place. They really did a job looking for those items, she ponders all the information trying to piece the clues together. Something isn’t quite adding up in her mind.
Reginald pipes up in response to Eline's question to him, "Actually the prices are about right for the for the ring and statuette, depending on their workmanship." He pauses for a second to reorder his thoughts, then continues, "Powdered jade has an affinity for illusion/phantasm spells and is the ingredient of choice when mixing magic inks to scribe such spell scrolls, while jasper has strong anti-poison properties and is often crushed to be used as a substitute for any solid ingredient when making antidotes or magical potions." the gnome looks up at Eline, "Sorry, it's just that those two gemstones are especially prized among my people, so I tend to ramble on..." He continues, "My guess is if the items on the receipt are magical in nature, the seller did not realize it..."
He raps his head with his knuckle in consternation, "But of course, with my tendency to ramble on, I've forgotten to tell you the most important part!" he raises his voice so everyone else can hear, "Apparently the process that froze lady Tulgi is still ongoing and registering as magical. Of what this exactly means, I'm not sure. But now we have a method if checking to see if anyone else in town has been infected."
"I think we're about done here, unless someone else has any questions from him. Sounds like Hulil is sick too." There isn't much sympathy in his voice for the ailing thief. "I'm thinking that Tulgi stole whatever is on that list Trem found and turned it over to her sister. Let's hope Hulilstill has whatever is causing this so we can stop the spread of this sickness before any innocents get hurt."
(Recap from conversation with Tulgi - She sent all relics to her sister except for the dagger)
((OOC- oh sugar! Thanks for that clarification! That clears things up and… OMG!))
Roxaria entrusts Vauthok to play security to the thief on their way to the Town Hall to visit Elro. She continues trying to piece things together when a revelation hits her. She pulls the ornate dagger relic tucked from her belt and displays it, a safe distance, from the thief now in custody. “It just occurred to me, you know, when you said earlier that Tulgi stole all the relics from the merchant…Why, then, would you be ransacking the merchant store again when Tulgi sent all the relics to Hulil? Unless Hulil did not get a particular relic from her sister? Say, oh, I don’t know…a dagger?
Roxaria looks to see the thief’s reaction before safely tucking the dagger in her belt again. “What’s so special about it?”
She turns to Eline and Reginald, “Eline, you mentioned that freezing illness may have alchemical properties? What does that mean? Reginald, you said this came from Aeor? Is Aeor accessible to us? Do you know where it is, I should ask?”
Roxaria nods silently to the bandit, a knowing grin creeping on her face as she pats her beltline, “You DO want this. It’s okay, I don’t expect you to say anything. Something this important I imagine you wouldn’t.”
Roxaria moves to the head of the group, away from the thief and leads on towards the Town Hall. She has a lot to report to Elro.
The dagger didn't cure Tulgi though. I guess we'll have to talk to Hulil.
“That is a good point, Trem. Something is going on though. Why would Tulgi give all those other relics to Hulil, but hang on to the dagger? She obviously did not figure out what it does; however, at the same time, if Hulil knows something why would Tulgi not have given it to Hulil? Also, why, then, did Tulgi so easily part ways with the dagger and give it to me? Is something going on between Hulil and Tulgi that she wouldn’t give it to her? Tulgi hid it from Hulil, so when she gave those other relics, except the dagger, Hulil thought maybe Verla still had it and sent those bandits to ransack Pelc’s Curiousities. Maybe Tulgi does not want Hulil to have this dagger and so gave it to a Glass Blade like myself for safe keeping, away from Hulil?”
Roxaria is rhetorically speaking out loud hoping that someone is able to make a connection.
Roxaria hears Trem and quiets down. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I’m just rambling nonsense. Let’s talk to Elro and come up with a plan if we’re going to see Hulil. If those bandits attacked us and this guy…” she thumbs over her shoulder to the bandit near Vauthok “wanted it bad enough, they may try to attack us when we visit them.”

Reginald waits for the others to finish before responding to Rozaria's question. "I'm only familiar with the Palebank's reputation... to be honest I'm not quite certain where Aeor is. I heard that it may have crashed onto an island? We would need a map and someone who knows where it is to point it out to us. But not to worry! I have heard there are people here, who are in the business of supplying expeditions to Aeor." The gnome's smile brightens considerably, "I'm sure the tavern owner can direct us to the most reputable person available!"
He then frowns suddenly and looks at Eline, "As for the alchemical properties, that is definitely not my area of expertise. I'll have to think on it, while Elaine explains her hypothesis on the possible alchemical properties.... perhaps a hidden compartment in the dagger that we overlooked?" (Arcana +6 while Elaine speaks : 13, hopefully she will jog his memory.)

At the mention of the Uttolots Trem cringes a little.
A magical -but cursed- ring... sounds about right!
I think we should leave this place. Talk to Elro and let him handle this... this... mess...

Reginald checks each party member to find none are emanating magic similar to those afflicted by this freezing sickness.

The bandit's eye twitch for a brief moment, but he says nothing else and waits under the gaze of Vauthok.
(Recap - the freezing illness has alchemical properties not the dagger.)

I'm sure he has no idea what you're talking about. *wink*
Trem replies, but he also wants the dagger very badly. He keeps pace with Roxaria.

You're overanalyzing. Maybe she just wanted her share of the loot, or just a pretty dagger for herself.

Yeah, let's do this carefully. Maybe we can even avoid hostile actions.
