The memory thieves seem about to back down, when Horatio absolutely decks the leader. As they take to their heels, cad provides a bit of encouragement to keep them moving. He waves the head of his walking stick in an odd pattern, then gestures with his other hand. Suddenly the sound of a pack of hunting dogs baying as they close on their quarry comes from the space the harengon fled through. Cad smirks in satisfaction. Not quite a wizards' duel, but an effective use of a cantrip nonetheless. He'd considered debuting this spell on some of the rowdy village kids who enjoyed scaring his neighbor's chickens, but had held off for a more appropriate target.

Titaani shrugs, getting back onto Tiny's back.
"I don't know much about hags. I only know about the fey, and even that knowledge is limited," she admits, putting her boomerang away. "The best I can do are the scary stories that my moms used to tell me when I was young. 'Don't get lost or you might end up in a hag's den!' and all that."
Never the less, Titaani tries to see if she can remember anything about hags. History: 11

The brigands continue to flee out of sight and into the foggy swamp, a pack of invisible hounds at their heels.
But Horatio takes a third and final swing at their rapidly retreating leader, and connects. Jebbek goes down hard, whacking her head on a rotten log. She is unconscious. Her gourd bounces into a mucky pool.
The giant snail continues to snack contentedly on the underbrush.
Titaani remembers hearing childhood stories of hags. Very dangerous fey creatures who can appear in many forms. Cruel, scheming crones with whom bargains can be particularly treacherous. Foul entities who sometimes work together in covens to achieve particularly dark ends.
Titaani hums, scratching the back of Tiny's ear. After a moment, she snaps her fingers and turns to the others excitedly. "I remember! The most important thing about hags is not to engage in deals with them. I remember now, my mom Sejila used to sing: 'Today make one deal with a hag, tomorrow find yourself in a snag.'" She hums a little, continuing to scratch behind Tiny's ear. "I think...I think that so long as we're super duper careful and make sure that we're hunting a single hag and not a whole bunch of them, we should be ok."

Horatio lifts the bandit and sets them upright against the log they fell on. He takes a quick moment to make sure their injuries aren't life threatening, then walks over and carefully retrieves the dropped staff. He does not touch the knob part. "If this truly is magical, maybe it could be a weapon?" He hands it to Cad.
Looking up from where he is taking care of the snail, Ben says, “Let us be careful. This is Zybilna’s domain, and if we are to claim the Rule of Ownership to regain our lost items, we should not take anything that does not clearly belong to us.”
This said, Ben starts looking through the snail’s pack to see if any of their lost items might have found their way into the pack.

Cad examines the strange item Jebbek was holding. It's not a staff, but rather a stoppered gourd with a golden knob, now wet and covered with dirt.
The giant snail indeed has a pack (as well as a saddle). Ben discovers that the pack contains a crossbow and bolts, three daggers, a sling, a coil of rope, and several waterskins.
Jebbek remains stable but unconscious, a large lump growing on her head where she fell.
Many of you are growing tired and hungry. Although the sun still has not risen (or set?) you realize that none of you have slept since the night before last, and that many of you have not had a proper meal in awhile.
Horatio takes Jebbek's scarf off and proceeds to tie their large feet with it. Once done, he searches Jebbek for any daggers or weapons that could be used to cut their way free. If anything is found, Horatio will put it in the snail's pack. "Okay... we have someone to ask questions of.. once they wake."
Cad accepts the gourd from Horatio as though being handed a sleeping badger -- gingerly, with much anxiety. "A weapon? I don't know... Seems like a kind of flask, albeit magical." His face lights up. "You know, I do have this spell..." He sets the gourd carefully on the ground, then pulls out his spell book and riffles through the pages. "Aha! Here it is: Analyze!"
He proceeds to draw a circle of arcane symbols in the dirt, referring frequently to his spell book, then places a hand on the gourd, closes his eyes (though occasionally peeking at the book), and self-consciously chants the spell Analyze.

Ben:
As it seems they are resting, at least for the moment, Ben will scout the immediate area for threats, clean water, or food, and then try to make a small fire with his tinderbox. Striking it multiple times, he just can't get the flint to even spark. "Oh well, I suppose it would be too much to hope for this to work in the feywild when it won't in our regular world," he comments:

Titaani slides off of Tiny as he curls up into a ball, ready to rest. She shakes her head sympathetically at Ben.
"Here," she lights his fire with her torch that she was carrying, transferring the bright blue and purple flames onto the ground. "That should be good. Now we just have to find something to eat."
She fishes around in one of the pouches attached to Tiny's saddle and manages to find some gnomish snacks that she packed for the carnival. They are hardly of much nutritious value, mostly berries of various sorts, a cookie or two, and a few carrots for Tiny.
"I have some food, but it's not a lot," Titaani says sadly, offering her snacks around. "I didn't think I would need to bring all that much to the carnival."

Horatio shakes his head. "Keep it. It isn't much anyways, and I'm used to going without meals. Besides, there's food everywhere here. Can't you see the bugs..."
Cad learns that the gourd holds memories. The stopper sports a golden knob, and anyone who voluntarily touches the knob while its assigned owner is holding the gourd loses the memory the user wants to steal, as it is siphoned away and trapped in the gourd. Removing the stopper releases all memories trapped inside the gourd, whereupon they return to their original owners. Although anyone can plug or unplug the gourd’s stopper, only the owner or their formal designee (in this case, Jebbek) can use the gourd to trap memories. None of you can use this magical item (other than opening and releasing the trapped memories.)
Ben finds foraging easy. There are edible plants and berries and fish and more. With his 15 Survival check roll, Ben will easily be able to gather enough food to feed the whole party for an entire day with just an hour of work.
Busying himself with foraging and setting up camp, Ben doesn’t pay too much attention to what the others are doing until he has everything ready to go. He then sits down heavily, realizing how tired he is. “We will need someone to keep watch if we are going to sleep here,” he says wearily, “Or once we have eaten we can try and move the mile towards the fallen balloon basket to see if someone needs help.”

"I vote to check out the balloon. We should help if needed, but may also be able to use the basket as a makeshift shelter. Otherwise, I'll take first watch in case fluffy here wakes up." He pokes at Jebbek with a foot.
At Horacio’s encouragement, Ben agrees after they have had perhaps an hour to eat and rest, “Yes, let’s move on and see whom we can help.” Ben stores whatever extra food he finds in his pockets or pouch, then is about ready to move on.
After a thorough check of the snail’s saddlebags, Ben says, “I see nothing here that clearly belongs to us, but the memories stolen from others certainly don’t belong to these robbers. Have you found any way to return those memories to those who have lost them, Cad?”
