"I don't understand this..." whispers Khessa "No fires, no light... as if the camp has been abandoned. But we met one of their hunters a few time ago. I'd suspect a trap... But this also is not too likely - they did not know neither that we were returning, nor when. How could they then have set up a trap? Maybe a small animal..." she winks at Calvin "...like a lizard, for example... could descend into the camp and check if it is really abandoned or not?"
Zale squints into the darkness, "Yes this be very odd. Now that i think about it, we did hear signs of a struggle as we were travelin' back to Greenest. Not sure who would try to fight the Cult though."
"yes, that's odd, but an ambush from the cult is unlikely, they would not had set all the camp down to catch us even if the had know we were coming. Just keeping the defenses high would have been enough and less costly" Eric mumbling " anyway, I think our option are just sneaking in, taking a look all around or creating a diversion, something that may cause everyone that could be hidden in the dark, to move"
occ: my Idea of diversion is casting light over a small stone and tossing it high from the cliff thorough the camp, it should both spot eventual ambushers and provide some vision into the camp. If we keep moving after the toss we can hide again into the dark and they should not be able to spot us...
Otherwise I would let the lizard-Calvin to go wild
"If Calvin takes the form of a lizard" explains again her previous advice Khessa "and checks the camp, he should be safe... Even should someone be hidden, a lizard would not rise suspicion. Then he can report back to us and tell us if he did find someone hiding or not. Or you prefer we simply float down together like previously planned?"
Peeking over the edge of the cliff you can see that the Kobold huts are burned to the ground. There are still some tents in the centre area, but they seem abandoned. And that about what you can make out without Perception checks.
Unless she can spot hidden enemies by herself, Khessa resumes her previous proposal: "What do you think, Calvin? Would you feel like to trsnsform into a lizard, go down and check the camp?"
Kriv follows behind. “What do we do when we get down there? The blue guy killed Telurion without trying. He isn’t even the leader and they have an army.”
"Hey, easy it will be all well. We knew what we were against, as we came here, don't we?" Smiles Khessa, trying to reassure the dragonborn a little "We will try not to fight suicidal battles. But we will keep opposing the Cult all the same. What else should we do, join them? And what the fun would be in that?" she winks "We came to deprive them from eggs and loot. Let's just see if those things are still here and what we can do about it. If we find out that the camp has been abandoned instead... then we better try to discover at least where the ememies went".
Nixi clears her throat. "Um, I'm pretty good at travelling unseen. I'd be willing to go down and take a look around. If I get into trouble, you'll definitely see some flashing lights. Would you like me to take a look around the camp?"
"Oh, do you mean your Invisibility spell Nixi?" Khessa tskes on a dreamy expression "I remember when we were studying together yesterday... then you disappeared! You were there, at my side; I just turned my head a moment... and you were not there anymore! And you let me worry and search for you... I would never have suspected anything if you had not started laughing!"
"Yes," the blonde arcane warrior focuses again on the present "go and don't worry; we will still be able to dive down should you be in trouble".
For a moment you curse your lousy non darkvision human eyes, but when your sight adjusts to the darkness you see a single light. A campfire... 3 humans or elves... they look like the hunter you saw... 4 bigger figures... horses! The have made their camp near the few still standing tents.
"Truth to be told..." Khessa murmurs, pointing to the light she finally managed to spot "someone is still there... over there, you see?" she points to the exact spot, to make easier to all to also see "Three people... similar to the hunter we saw earlier. And four horses. So, either the hunter we saw earlier hasn't returned yet, or they've left one on guard, out of sight. Anyway, the hunters are not part of the Cult... I would let Nixi do her invisible reconnaissance and if she does not find any more 'surprises', I would propose to simply approach and talk to them. Maybe they know what forced the Cult's army to leave. Or at least they should have seen in which direction they have gone".
2 of them notice your group. They point you out to the 3rd hunter, who almost stumbles into the fire. They have a good laugh about it and sit back near the fire without alerting others. They keep an eye on you but seem to ignore you for the most part.

"Checking safety won't harm, the druid can go wild if he wish"
Just to confirm: you guys are coming from the east and still a bit away.

Eric also says then "I would suggest to get a little closer, and take a look down from the cliff before making our first move"
"Agreed" replies Khessa and heads toward the cliff, keeping low at the last few yards, until she crawls at the end.
She then just leans her head out and takes a look down. Still neither lights nor fires to be seen?
Zale also proceeds towards the camp. She stays low, just in case there are unseen eyes watching.
