After spending some time looking over the scroll and it’s magic symbols, you determine this to be a wizard/ sorcerer spell scroll for something called. “Scorching Ray”
“Vars, I agree with you. Perhaps three towers are needed to use some spell, or get to a location. “ Sparhawk rubs his scruffy chin in thought.
(I didn’t know about short rests, if DM let’s me, I’ll take back the lay on hands and see how the hit dice help. I’ll need a long rest before we visit our big bear friend. )
Eberk opens the door at the end of the hallway and surveys the room. Perception: 8
As finishing a short rest you are all feeling a bit better and more energized. Eberk heads to the door at the end of the hallway and opens it. This door leads out onto the balcony over the front porch. There are a few chairs and a small circular table between them for enjoying the weather it seems
[I suppose the spell scroll belongs to Abernath, not to us. On the one hand, he's lost any claim to common courtesy, and at least a couple of us are decidedly thieves -- but on the other hand, he's kind of scary. And he might be dead for all we know! We could probably sell this scroll to a Wizard. Up to y'all.]
Bjorn finds a container of sufficient size for the heart and carelessly dumps out whatever is in it. Then he returns to the library and rests, reflecting on the wondrous extravagance the party might enjoy upon claiming the Abernath bounty.,
Pausing before the door to the balcony, "Was there a balcony visible from outside? This feels strange."
( you can attempt to cast it it will say since you have spent some time pondering it. But, you will have to roll against dc13 at disadvantage due to its foreign nature and if you fail, there is a mishap table to roll on. If you don’t wish to risk it, you can always sell it or trade it to a specialist vendor or maybe at the tower itself)
Sparhawk looks for anything out of the ordinary on the balcany and roof top behind Investigation:14
Sparhawk walks out onto the balcony to take a good look. His military training kicks in and he spends some extra time surveying the balcony looking at the strategic possibilities of this position and view of the surroundings. He catches a glimpse of someone trying to hide behind some trash between the buildings a few houses down. It seemed to Sparhawk the individual might have been monitoring to goings on at Abernath’s house.

Pausing before the door to the balcony, "Was there a balcony visible from outside? This feels strange."
( The front porch was covered, this balcony would be the roof to the porch)
“Sparhawk turns back toward the door as if he didn’t notice the person and mentions quietly they are being watched. “We are being watched.” He mentions the location of the person.
[Hm. I wonder who that was. I bet we could draw out some strangeness if I were to go out on the balcony disguised as Abernath. They might not approach, but they'd certainly do something.]
“I say keep the scroll,” Vars says. “We will probably wind up using it to rescue this bloody wizard anyways. Then he should be glad we took it.”
When Sparhawk returns Vars frowns, “Lovely. Hopefully this is another person concerned for Abernath…But, if he’s not he could be a potential lead…” He gives everyone a meaningful look. “Should a couple of us go down there to greet our watcher?”
"It would be dangerous to use this scroll I'm afraid. I'm not against taking it though, I didn't plan to steal stuff from this wizard were supposed to find but considering the trouble his less than welcoming house has given us I'd say we've earned this." She says and hands the scroll to Bjorn. "Use it wisely if your going to but perhaps we should sell it instead."
As Sparhawk mentions the person spying on the house she turns to the others. "If he's trying to stay hidden I don't expect him to stay around to chat, but it could be helpful to get him to talk with us if we're going to find out what is going on here. I suggest some of us try to sneak up on him and convince him to stay and talk, incapacitating him if necesary."
(Imperonating Abernath sounds like a good idea but do we know what the man looks like?)
"I'm guessing this isn't a friend of Abernath's... Although it could be. Rule of three says there's still one servant unaccounted for -- the gnome."
"But if it's someone associated with the Red Wizards, we don't want to meet him at less than our full force. So we should stick together, more or less. Why don't I take a stroll over to that block, and the rest of you stay as close as you can without being seen?"
"I presume this spy will see anyone that exits the house through the front door, but when I checked out the back earlier there seemed to be a hidden door there. If we find the exit all or some of us could use that and sneak around to hopefully catch him by surprise." Sorsha suggests.
(Did Bjorn accept the scroll?)

Yes, do that. Spell slots are precious

(Don't think Scorching Ray is on either Sorsha's or Bjorn's spell list, can we use it anyway?)

"Might be worth a conversation, but only if the others agree to not poke around too much. This place is quite dangerous."

[There are paintings of him downstairs. Also Bjorn saw him perform years ago.]
(Ah, forgot, great, do we think the spy would talk to "Abernathy" or should he just be a distraction as others sneak up on him?)
