Grabbing a couple of tufts of the Giant Boar's back hair, Sam spurs his mount quickly forward towards the sounds of conflict and anger. Not riding recklessly into the battle, just quickly. Sam definitely wants to see what is going on before he picks a side... He's also listening to the shouts being screamed out in dwarvish hoping to gain some knowledge of, as Iver would say, "what the **** is going on." ((Sam does speak Dwarvish.))
Elthana rides back to the others stops Sam from going any further. "There are two large coneheaded beasts with massive claws! I hear a couple of dwarves, like you all do, but I can't see them beyond the two large monsters. I don't know what was in those acorns, but please, don't throw any more!"
"Sounds like we should hurry while we can still save lives then!" Sam insists to Elthana and bristles at being stopped.
"As for the acorns... Well, glad you think so highly of me!" Sam then spurs Boris on once more, eager to get into the fight and save the dwarves if possible.
Elthana's eyes open wide in the change of demeanor from Sam and quickly moves out of his way. "I didn't mean anything by that...." but it was too late, Sam was already off.
Refocusing, she spins Gust around and charges after him.
Muir slowly trots looking to the woods for cover and a little bit of stealth (Nat 1). Muir's horse does not take kindly to trekking into the woods without a path and whinnies.
As the group rush along the road to where the forest ends, they see a fight in progress, One dwarf lies dead near the now petrified tree that Sam grew, arrows stick out of the dwarf's head and the bits of his body that aren't covered by his thick dull grey armour. Another dwarf still yelling obscenities in dwarvish sits atop one of two large beasts in the area, the beasts have razor sharp claws and stone like conical heads made for burrowing, it appears that the dwarf is riding it as it shouts to the sky where a bird person seems to be in flight just out of reach of the dwarf and its mounts. The feathered humanoid is also wearing armour of a completely different sort, it reflects the dying sunlight like a mirror and seems to be semi translucent. It screeches out as it draws another arrow back in an ornate looking long bow and lets it fly sinking the arrow into the one of the burrowing beast's outstretched paws.
With Vin flying over the tree tops he is spotted almost instantly by the dwarf, who shouts out in anger,
"Another one of you above b*stards, get down here and face your death!"
As the group very loudly make their way into visible space, the one unmounted beast rears it's head toward the party and begins running at them.
Elthana stares at the fighting and has no idea what is going on. This is exactly why you don't go charging in. She turns and glares at Sam a bit, but then refocuses.
"Vin! That dwarf is calling you out! Be prepared!!"
She then sees the large beast turn to charge them, and decides that that should not happen and turns Gust that way. Riding up till she is right next to the beast, she holds onto the horse's sides with her hands and kicks out at the creature.
Landing all three kicks (assuming 18 hits?) with a total of 33 magical bludgeoning damage, she rides on by to just the other side of the tree.
Gewyn looks at the scene before him. Loathe to start killing before knowing what's what, he decides to try defusing the situation. Grabbing a small pinch of salt tucked into a pouch on his belt, he licks it off his finger and lets the taste suffuse his senses. He concentrates on the feeling and starts to shift his consciousness away from the perception of words, and toward the perception of meaning and intention.
"What is going on here?!" he shouts, once in common and once in fae for good measure.
As Elthana kicks out at the beast, all three kicks land with a crunch, and the beast roars in her face, she finds its skin very hard and almost naturally armoured but it takes the damage nonetheless.
As both Sam and Gewyn yell out they hear a very thickly accented response from the bird, it caws out vack to them, "finally, is bipeds that speak understanding, tell this tiny soft brain that it will die like weak friend there, if it not stop." The bird draws another arrow toward the dwarf in preparation for its next attack.
Vin flying onto the scene sees what looks like a battle. he immediately spots the mounters but it is not what he expects at all. The dwarves are riding them! Vin's first though is that is so cool. The second is what are they fighting? The only thing he sees is a birdfolk flying in the sky. He also spots the dead dwarf and wonder's what in the world started this fight. As his friends call out for answers and the birdfolk replies Vin is relieved that it seems they might be able to stop the fight... although it seems like death has already happened. Elthana warns Vin about the dwarf and he nods and then keeps an eye on them best he can so they don't catch him of guard (dodge action). In his mind, the best thing to do is break up the fight and find out what's going on. To that end Vin flies over to the winged being and says to them "We do speak. Yes. What do they need to stop? We have only just arrived. Show us your intent to talk by putting your weapon away."
Neferox seems ready to eat the bigger creatures but seeing what vin is doing she sighs disappointed and instead holds her action. Looking menacingly at the big creatures with the dwarven rider.
"a warrior not gives chance to hostiles in face of threat no?" The bird replies to vin as it looks around at him in confusion, it eyes vin's broom specifically with a questioning brow, but it does not lose focus on its dwarven target, nor does it out away it's longbow.
As Vin gets close enough to see properly, it appears that the birds armour is made out of some sort of carved crystal structure, the bright orange feathers covering its body are clearly visible underneath. Though now the battle is losing sunlight and the reflections in the armour dim.
“Muir! Or anyone. Get to that downed dwarf and see if he can still be saved!” Sam barks out even as he spurs Boris into movement.
Sam uses the dodge action while Boris moves 40’ straight north, doing his best to position himself between the mounted dwarf and the birdman as possible. (If DM allows since it’s a mixing of the two turns…) Sam then leaps off of Boris, uses his Bonus Action to turn Large via Giant’s Might and more fully gets between the combatants.
“As Peacekeepers of Northmorrah we demand you both stop until we sort this out!” Sam shouts with more authority than he actually feels. “The next transgressor will have all of us to deal with.”
As Sam shouts his order in both common and dwarvish (clarified Ooc) the bird person merely squints their eyes at Sam as the half orc grows larger it seems they are interested in Sam and this group but still very much on guard, the dwarf laughs at the suggestion and prepares a javelin.
Muir rushes toward the dead dwarf. He shouts to the other dwarf "Stop fighting or I will not attempt to aid your friend." Muir bends down to help the dead dwarf

As Vin gets closer tot he birdfolk he nods to what they say and replies, "I would not expect you to just surrender. I ask only for a show of peace. Stow your weapon and you may find yourself with allies. A benefit I would think any warrior would appreciate. Also, your armor is really cool! Is that crystal?" Vin ask the last question out of both a genuine interest and a desire to distract the warrior bird and help them feel at ease. To show them that Vin and his party are not here to fight but can be allies.
The sun descends and leaves only twilight in its wake, at this the pale dwarf, who seems to not understand Muir's words, sits up straight and opens his eyes wider. It appears that until now he had been reacting badly to the sunlight but with that not an issue anymore he tells out toward Sam in Dwarvish;
"TWO CAN PLAY AT THAT GAME! YE INTERFERIN' GREEN SHITE!"
With his taunt screamed out in Dwarvish he jumps off off his mount and as he descends he grows into a very large dwarf, comparable to Sam's enlarged size.
Taking the javelin he had already prepared, he launches it toward Vin, (14 (disadvantage) to hit, 12 piercing damage)
The dwarf then slaps the side of the monster he was mounted upon and it leaps 15ft vertically into the air and over toward Sam and Boris, it's size and immense weight create an updraft around it as it descends upon both Boris and Sam, it's claws outstretched (DC16 Str/Dex of your choice. On a failure take 13 bludgeoning dam + 14 slashing dam and you are knocked prone, on success, take 6 bludgeoning + 7 slashing and move to unoccupied space)
The other beast lashes out at elthana in retaliation to her attack, opening it's armoured conical jaw it snaps toward her attempting to bite her in half, (15 to hit, 30 piercing damage)
Seeing that peace talks were never an option the bird is glad to not have stowed away it's bow, it flies past vin and positions itself south of the beast attacking Sam and Boris, yelling out to Vin "warrior knows when is not time to talk yes? This time to fight or your friends die" with that they draw back their long bow and fire at the beast twice (18 and 19 to hit, for 10 and 9 piercing) with the skill of a well seasoned warrior the bird sinks two arrows into the beast at specific places where it's natural armour meet, creating small almost impossible to hit weak points, but the bird manages, and as it strings up another arrow it looks to Vin wondering how these 'peacekeepers' will act.
Still sitting astride his horse on the outskirts of the battle, Gewyn raises his pipes to his lips and begins playing an unearthly but beautiful song. His features slowly shift into their original fae form. But just like his song, there is a haunting beauty there now, as if something else, serene yet terrifying, is hiding just under his skin (Mantle of Majesty). Still playing, he points at the dwarf with a pinch of salt between his fingers and snaps, willing the short warrior's eyes to close.
Then turning his uncanny visage upon the bird, he says "Kneel" before spurring his horse on to bring him 10 feet closer to the flying creature.
