Neferox's ears pin back against her head and her brow furrows, she looks to vin and then sinks her head into her paws once more, giving a growl and a gruff in Muir's direction in answer to his question.
Sam clears his throat in that specific I want your attention sort of way... "I'm all for sharing and cooperating and being truthful and all," Sam says a moment later, looking around at the others. "But is this the time and place?"
"I'm fascinated by the map... and not surprised this is the first we are seeing it... I wonder though if we are the only ones seeing and hearing what is shared?" Sam says to explain his concern. "Not to impugn our gracious hosts or anything but it's my nature to be wary and suspicious. Or at least cautious. I'm not saying let's not share but just... perhaps we should wait til we're in more comfortable.. Well thats the wrong word, these cloud bed things are very comfortable... But anyway, you know what I mean."
Boris snores and doesn't so much as raise his head. Ógra watches as Sam talks and then pads around the room looking and sniffing around as if hunting down spies... Or perhaps just a morsel for a snack.
Muir ignores Sam and continues "For those of you unable to speak to animals Neferox said that my story is close enough to the truth and the story doesn't end there. I wanted to see if more would be shared but I assume that's all I will get then....a shame that our partnership doesn't go far enough.....Here is the rest of the story then from my research"
the celestial had devoted themselves to filling the demon lords life with happiness, and the demon lord had done the same for the celestial in return. At the end of the year the demon lord realised that they no longer felt that something was missing, what did you gift me that I wanted so dearly?* asked the demon lord, love replied the celestial. With the wager completed the demon lord released the celestial and gave them back the rights to their own soul. But the celestial stayed, you cannot give back what is already yours, I completed the task yes, but in doing so I gave you my soul and so the relationship continued and developed, the demon lord and the celestial had a child. But the other demon lords grew irritated, they consulted infernal scripts found a prophecy and an ancient ruling that forbade celestials and demons from having relations. The other demon lords stormed the lair aiming to kill the celestial, kidnap the infant and punish the demon lord and destroy the relationship going on. They succeeded in killing the celestial, but the demon lord teleported the infant away to another plane, and the other demon lords took their vengeance upon their betrayer
"So you see that child whisked away born of a celestial and demon....A child born of a demon and celestial...What a combination and divergence from the order of things....Who was the child? What who was the child given to? These are the questions that I have not been able to find answers to.....But Vin you have a connection to that realm...Neferox is from that realm.....What is the connection? I do not believe the child to be you, Vin, as it seems to me that child would have been born generations ago. Perhaps your looking into your mother is the connection? This also raises the question of your magical artifact...What is it? What does it do? You see Sam and Elthana both have keys to different planes...My assumption is you do as well. This demon lord Roxs'hian the Nefarious according to legend is more like Rynwell than Shione, which means if the fire plane is indeed opening in Lyvander, they will need help...A shame they decided to exit the way they did....I digress....Vin hopefully you can fill in some of the blanks for me"
Vin listens. The tone and topic seemed focused at him until ultimately he is asked to fill in blanks. Vin seems contemplative as he pets Nef. Not just to keep her in check but also for his own benefit of feeling at ease. He looks to Nef who seems to look around at the various entrances to the room. She seems... accepting but not too happy with the topic at all. More like an acknowledgement of she does sense anyone being too overt at least.
Vin takes a deep breath and replies to Muir in a quiet voice so it doesn't travel much, "I don't have any key, at least, not one I know of. After Rynwell and finding out I'm not... normal, I began to think more on who I am and where I came from. I never really felt like I fit in... I try but it just never seemed to work. The most comfortable I'd ever feel is when I finally met Neferox here. It was like I wasn't alone all of a sudden. As to the question of if I'm the kid or not... well... who knows? Maybe im a descendant of that child if it was so long ago. That make more sense but... what about these portals has been normal thinking for us? I mean, even time works different here, right?"
"The bottom line is, I don't really know anything. I was an orphan. Brought up in Marblestead at Ms. Glasvain's place. I know nothing about my family, or who i am beyond what im trying to be. It's why I began looking into my origin in the first place. I'm greatful to hear this tale. It's... both beautiful and sad. I'm connected to it somehow, I think that's clear, but how much? That's a tough one to figure out, especially as whatever note or message that was left behind for me was lost when Glasvain threw it away all those years ago. If you think I can answer some question I'll try my best though."
"I accept your explanation Vin, I only hope that if Neferox has something useful they will share at some point. As far as the woman who threw out the note...Are you certain sit was disposed of? They did not read the note before throwing it out? Who gave her the note? Why was it discarded?" Muir pauses and takes a breath before continuing "The magical item, when you set out from Marblestead with the rest of your group, were you given a magical artifact of some sort from your master....eh Wooswin was it?"
"I think... Nef will share when she needs to. Its not easy for her to trust others so... hopefully this is the beginning of that. Just be patient and trust she will help when needed." Nef swishes her tail a bit and huffs but not in an aggressive way.
Vin conti ues, "You need to understand Ms. Glasvain to know that. It... wouldn't be the first note left from a parent she threw out. All I have is Ms. Glasvain's notes on what happened the day I arrived at the orphanage. A lady dropped me off. Some kind of message left behind. I didn't find the note in my file so... unless she kept it somewhere else for some reason it's likely gone. She's... not the kind of person to save things for others... even kids. It was a woman that dropped me off and handed the note over. Glasvain couldnt read the script and noted that. No name with Glasvain's file about her. Apprently did give me my name of Vincent. I have that file back at home if you'd like to take a look.
I told you what the artifact is. I kind of feel a bit awkward talking about it. I kind of promised to keep it a secret. Feels like I'm betraying my idols even mentioning it again. It was given to me by professor Wooswin."
Vin looks over to nef after replying to Muir seeming to sense something from the hound.
Elthana listens to Vin and Muir, her mind a jumble as she isn't sure it can take much more. But she sits back and listens, trying to comprehend. She's glad Nef isn't being aggresive by any means, and Vin is right, they needed to give the hound some time, she's been through a lot today. They didn't need to solve all puzzles tonight.
Muir nods "Ah right you are Vin, right you are.A scroll that undoes an action...Biggly had another theory that dealt with magic and these trinkets..If I may...What school of magic is this scroll from? Wooswin gave this to you, perhaps once this mess is done, he would give you access to books that are not for public consumption....Biggly showed me so much but did not have access to the Wooswin's books....Perhaps you can convince him to let you and myself, and anyone else who'd like to come of course, to look at these books being all that's transpired...?" Muir pauses and catches his breath before bringing up the orphanage "You mention this Glasvain who seemed to be a bit of a rotten apple....Is she no longer alive or working at the orphanage? Was she the, I am unsure of the word, boss of the orphanage?"
Orga stands and extends their paws out in front of them with a stretch, the lion flexes it's back like a half pipe and sticks it's butt in the air, those who see this display could almost hear bones popping satisfactorily back into place as the beasts muscles all tighten and then relax once more, a sharp fanged and growling yawn stretches orgas jaw, baring every single shining tooth. The biggest stretch from the biggest cat, they the paw the ground next to Sam for some time Purring like a motor and drooling a little, before laying down and joining Boris in the land of dreams.
With a panicked expression Vin says "Wait, wait, Muir. I told you in confidence. I try to keep my word as best I can but I recognized at the time I needed to share. Please don't share what I have with others unless you have a really good reason to. Not just curiosity. I take my promises pretty serious and it was only under extreme circumstances I share with you all what I had. I totally understand why you're curious but... I don't want people to think I just blurt out secrets on a whim. It was a secret trusted with me and considering what it does, I can understand that. I can totally ask to take a look at Professor Wooswin's books, though you should know he didn't make this scroll. None of the founding members of the Cavalcade know how to replicate it, if they did... well... it would change a lot."
Vin is very hopeful that Muir will respect his wishes to keep the item a secret. It was entrusted to him by the heroes he idolizes after all. To Ms. Glasvain he sighs and says "She still owns it. She has a couple workers under her but well... they aren't too happy. That book I handed to Elthana is hers. It's some kind of record... or something. I'm not sure what is going on but there was also notes on how to impersonate folks as well as a magical item that allowed her to change her appearance. I don't know what she has been doing but it almost looks like she sabotages folks to steal their fortunes. Also it seems that often the kids of those she steals from end up in her orphanage too. I'm just... what is going on?"
If Loxodons could turn red with embarassment, Muir would be as ared as a cardinal "Oh oh...No, no I didn't nor would I tell Biggly about your gift....I simply meant that I was curious about the type of magic and if it coresponded with a different plane. It seems the magics of this plane were gifted by other planes and I was going to try to figure out what plane it was gifted from, but perhaps Master Wooswin will have the answers. When this is all over I would be in your debt if you could arrange a sit down between the three of us. The factions have kept secrets from one another for too long it seems, and with portals opening up and possible war.....It would make sense to me to start sharing secrets....I digress....Speaking with Wooswin about your artifact would be beneficial to figuring out the msytery before us, but at the very least if he could show us the secret books...As for this woman, perhaps Wooswin could exert some influence over here and demand she tell us what she knows. Woman like that don't throw away notes without trying to read them...the busy body types, secrets for favors that sort....If Wooswin won't...perhaps the rest of us could persuade her. Thank You Vin, you have been most helpful. Is there anything else you would like to tell us all that perhaps, I have left out?"
"I'd like to handle it in a way that won't bring harm to the orphanage or the people I care for there. I don't think a simple matter of pressure would do it. I am hopeful to setup a new owner for the orphanage though. I have the perfect person in mind to take over. They are going to need a secretary to handle all the paperwork though. It's not their strong suit and they just enjoy helping the kids directly. Anyway, I'm hopeful Elthana, Gewyn or someone they know can help put some meaning to that book. I know it's important and likely incriminating but I don't know how or why."
Vin seems a bit concern as they look at Nef laying down. Those there would notice them give Nef a hug and then he'd say "I don't think I can add much more. I think all of us would like some rest before we continue tomorrow. Anything else you need muir? If not i think Nef and I would like some rest."
"This Glasvain woman," Sam says after a moment of quiet. "If she is hurting children we can remove her..." Sam then lays a hand on Boris and Órga and says nothing more for a long time.
"Rest then. Soon enough we need to figure out this load stone thing.."
To sam Vin says, "She's... better then being on the streets without a roof... At least i thought. Lots of kids get food and shelter there as well as find homes or sometimes get a scholarship for the Cavalcade. I dont know what we'll find now."
if nothing else Vin and Nef going to get some rest.
Elthana listens to her friends discuss the orphanage and the portals and all sorts of things. She finds it a bit funny that here she lies actually debating opening up a bit to try and get through everything she has learned over the last couple days... Vin had started to ask, but then she was forgotten...
She sighs as she lies down and closes her eyes, she knows she should be used to it, always living her life in the shadows. Most of the time she wanted to be forgotten, that was her goal, but she didn't think she was that hidden from her friends. Well... there was just too much going on, it was alright. Probably best this way.
Sam keeps watch for a part of the rest period, hearing only scuffling outside in the corridor every so often but nobody attempts to open their door. He soon succumbs to sleep leaving orga and boris alert for the remainder of the rest.
After 8 hours there is a knock waking the group, outside the door the unmistakably familiar voice of Griff comes through, "hello friends, you are being awake yes? I am being asked to escort you to map room, hello?"
there is no change in light in this warm room, the crystal that makes up the room glows the same as when the group fell asleep, and despite the fact that a full 8 hours sleep has been had, the feeling of exhaustion has oddly not abated (everyone take a short rest) a second knock comes from the door "I am coming in is this being ok? it is Griff. hello?" Waiting a polite amount of time for a reply, grif opens the door, steps in and turns off the lighting in the tube that seems to power the heating crystal in the center of the room, "how are you all finding my home plane?" He grins.
Muir is the first to wake. He opens his eyes hearing Griff outside the door. He sits up as Griff comes in "Hello there friend! Your home is lovely. I can only hope to come back under less strenuous circumstances. I am tired, I must admit. I have not adjusted to the time differences....I understand why you felt the need to sleep every so many hours in our world. Hmm by my accoutns then we would need 24-32 hours of sleep here to be fuly rested. The time difference....hmm that also means we can stay awake longer without being exhausted...How very interesting...Are you happy to be back home Griff?"
Muir looks at his friends to see if they are ok from last night's conversation. Muir had so much more to ask each of them but felt he had gone far enough. He doesn't notice anything because they are all still sleeping.
Elthana moans as she awakens, hearing the conversation going on around her. "Morning already? Ugh... what a night." Yawning loudly, she attempts to stretch in her cloud like bed and then sits up.
With big circles under her eyes she finally sees that it is Griff that has joined them, "Why, hello friend. Glad to see a familiar face." and she yawns again, clearly a troubled night.
