After exiting the enchanters and giving Vin his gift, Sam looks at the door again, squinting again, and trying to see through the enchantment. "I bet it's really red and the enchantment is just in case it chips or fades," Sam declares and then turns to the street. "We should collect the others. We have to go see the Elders eventually, I guess."
Sam, Vin, Griff and Neferox look around and find their way to the Raven House. Someone suggests they head inside and ask after the others but Sam... hesitates. "I'll... I'll just wait outside," Sam assures the others. "That rock over there looks like it needs to be held down. Maybe I'll do that instead?"
As the other look skeptical Sam shrugs. "It's the Raven Queen's house, eh? Her temple?" Sam asks en route to his explanation. "She's not fond of Half-Corpses, is she? All about the proper order of life and death or whatnot? Just seems... Polite... that I don't go prodding around her place, ya know? Not in my current state, anyway."
So as the others head to the door of the Raven House, Sam calls Hootie to his shoulder and Sam gets as comfortable as he can sitting upon the stone. It really could just float away if unattended. Maybe. The gravity thing here is weird, right? So Sam secured the stone in place and drew his new primer out of his backpack. He wasn't sure how much he would be able to learn about magic and all but he supposed if he was going to learn anything then perhaps a primer was just his speed. So Sam read, Hootie kept an eye out for mice and other little morsels, and the others went to find the other others.
Vin gives Sam a thumbs up, understanding his wish to be respectful, and likely not have to give the same explanation yet again.
As he makes his way to the door, he spots Elthana appear.
"Sam is waiting over there", he says motioning with his thumb back the way he, Griff and Neferox had come from.
"The potion shop went well, and we managed to find another interesting shop too. Once we are all back together we can go through what we bought", he replies to the shadar-kai. "Speaking of which, how did it go inside? Where are the others?".
The group follow Elthana, who is being led through the building by a young shadar-kai girl. You all pass through a classroom which is slowly filling with young kobolds and out into a small library where Gewyn sits scribbling down notes and playing with melodies on his pipes, writing a new song, to the other side of the room, Muir is being interviewed on his experience with the raven queen, by the old clerical kobold Granngord, via use of a dragonborn translator.
Muir writes down what he was told about the Elvish man named Stryder. "Interesting....Well now I feel like I need to pray at the shrine again...I knew there had to be a reason the portals closed the first time. Thank you, you've given me a lot to think about. I have actually met twice with the Raven Queen. Once a tree appeared where Morris, 1 aspect of the Queen, appeared with a little squirrel Ratosk, and a angsty demon, but let's face it are they not all angsty? I digress....He wished us to tell him a memory and as a thank you he allowed us to rest and gave us a small boon of sorts. My friends and I all told him a story in which he added it to his book of memories. He did not give me any warnings in that meeting. The second meeting is when we prayed at the Raven Queen's shrine near Lumithor, the spirit of Lumithor that is. Again he allowed us to rest and gave us a boon. Morris said that our group would face grave hardships, I believe were his words. His boons were his way of helping. as I mentioned, my gift was the ability to read all languages, but unfortunately it doesn't quite translate to writing or speaking." Muir looks at the Dragonborn wondering if he should have slowed down a bit "Uh did you get all that friend?"
The dragonborn nods and translates as Muir is talking, stopping every so often for Muir to finish a sentence before reconfiguring it in his head to deliver it in draconic to the old cleric. Granngord writes excitedly and smiles a credulous grin to Muir. The then says through his translator, "you have been blessed twice? This is great news, great news indeed. The increase in sightings and activity of the raven queen and her aspects can only mean that though great hardship may be ahead for you, a time of balance is ahead, a time where I hope those devour to her can raise their heads once more and be free to roam this realm."
Elthana looks down at Kiara with a warm smile, "Why I was with this bright little girl. She told me some stories of her mum and about the history of my race. She greatly wants her mum to return home and I told her we are here to do what we can to help their isle."
"Two interesting shops? Oh good, I hope what Hog sent helped with trading."
Muir nods "Yes, twice. My companions and I have all been blessed twice. We are hoping to restore balance to our world, and through that possibly your world as well. You have given me much to think about....Stryder the elf....Thank You." Muir waits to see if Granngord has any other questions or tidbits of knowledge before Muir would leave. "Oh before I go is there anything in your annals regarding a woman with a crown of antlers?"
"Two shops yes. There was no sign of you all after we finished in the potion shop, and you know how us men like to shop", Vin replies to Elthana with a grin. "And yes, the seeds were particularly useful, and we managed to trade the chopping boards too".
As they walk, he peers in to look at Gewyn composing his new song, and then stands in the doorway as Muir converses with the Dragonborn. When Muir speaks about there having to be a reason the portals were closed, he throws a quick glance to Neferox. And when Muir reiterates they have all encountered Morris twice, he holds up three fingers from one hand and points his thumb at himself with the other.
Those of you who wish to recount the intricacies of the messages that were given to you by Morris the humble bartending story keeping aspect of death do so at your own leisure, granngord the elderly kobold cleric of death writes his notes and thanks you all before you depart. Kiara giving Elthana a big hug before you all go.
Outside Sam seems to be scratching his head over a new book, an actual book, not one of thick rubber like sheets but a regular, albeit very old, book. Hootie flies from crystal rooftop top crystal rooftop diving and pecking gently at Sam's head with each swoop out of sheer boredom. At a market stall near by, an air genasi seems to be taking a tool to a cutting board that they have acquired, and are carving looping auran symbols upon it, Muir with his new abilities reads "potions" scribed upon the face ready for the final carve.
With the group back together and Griff following along, you set off toward the mount, where the elders gather and live. Eaos and Kudd, the two dragonborn who accompanied Hector on his skirmish, stand guard at the door, but let you all in without issue.
The main chamber door stands ajar between the two large murals that the group had already studied. From within you can hear Serafina speaking to the rest of the elders, the foreign language she speaks unknown to all of you bar Griff who listens for a moment and mutters "she seems to be keeping her word to Lumithor..."
The others approach as Sam is waving absently at Hootie - Having no intention of making conduct but trying to concentrate on something else at the moment. In his other hand he does indeed hold a book that he's been doing his best to study and learn from but seeing the others he quickly shoves it into his backpack and gets up to greet everyone.
"Learn anything interesting inside?" he asks to the group in general even as he bends down and picks up something that had been leaning by the stone he sat upon. As he picks it up it is apparent that it is a musical instrument, a lute perhaps? Sam immediately holds it out to Gewyn. "Picked this up cheap, we did. Hope you can play it," Sam says and hands over a Mac-Fuirmidh Cittern Sam then rummages through his backpack and pulls out some clothing as well. "Vin suggested this may be your style as well," Sam adds and hands Gewyn some Shiftweave as well.
"We got you something too," Sam says to Muir and starts digging around through his pouches and such. Eventually he finds a Portal Compass and tosses it over to the Loxodon. "I'm not precisely sure what it does but I figure you're the best one to figure that out."
"Vin already got a little something. I actually suggested he put it on Neferox but I'll let them sort that out," Sam says with a grin.
"And for you," Sam concludes with a smile, looking to Elthana, and pulls a hat out of his bag. It is a dark green beret with a black elastic band and a small shamrock on the one side. "If it's not your style you can change it," Sam assures he and hands over the Hat of Disguise to her. "I got a Bag of Holding as well, I figure one person can hold the Hog Bag and the other the bag of holding... Kind of spread out the baggage, so to speak..."
Mac-Fuirmidh Cittern and Shiftweave to Gewyn. Portal Compass to Muir. Hat of Disguise to Elthana. In case the links don't get typed in correctly...
After the gifts have been given out Sam deflects any thanks as best he can. "No, no... It was all mostly purchased with what Hog sent us. Mostly. Stuff from home can barter well here if you shop around. And Vin and Neferox helped me negotiate and pick it all out so don't be just thanking me... Oh! Vin! I believe you have some potions to spread around as well?"
Other than that, Sam is happy to fall in line and head with the others to the Mount and the Elders. "Which word?" Sam asks Griff. "Setting up more visitation? They did seem awfully lonely..."
Vin smiles when Sam mentions he got something, and shows the others his new circlet and rod.
"I think you took the other's healing potions Sam, but we also got a couple of climbing potions, a couple of clairvoyance potions and three more of the ones that allow you to understand any language and have anyone understand you".
"The latter might come in useful now, we just need to decide who will go in and represent us".
Elthana takes the hat from Sam and smiles. Setting it on her head, she spins around - very non characteristic of her, "How's it look?"
Turning to both Sam and Vin, "Nice job on the purchases, this will really help. Now to try and do some convincing... I don't think I'm the right person?" She then looks pointedly at Gewyn.
Muir takes the gifts from Sam and Vin and thanks them "I did learn interesting things inside. If you are interested in knowing, I am happy to tell you all otherwise I will keep it in my journal and continue my investigations when we get back to our realm." Muir smiles and waits for the group to make the decision on who should say what
"I do?" Sam asks, a bit confused when Vin suggests he has the healing potions and begins patting himself here, there and Oh! Yes. There they are! "I do!" Sam draws out the healing potions and
"Vin should already have two, right?" Sam asks of Vin while double-counting the potions he himself has. After some confusion they are all distributed, everyone getting one common healing potion, Vin and Gewyn each have two. "They're squishy," Sam says as way of explanation...
Sam grins and then tries not to as Elthana does her little spin. "Great. As always," Sam says turning just a bit darker green. "Vin was thinking maybe sometimes it might be easier for you to not look like you... I guess I see his point but I always think you look great..."
Sam then coughs and rubs the back of his head and looks around for another topic. Luckily Muir provides one. "Yes! By all means. Tell us all about it," Sam insists so that he can fade into the background...
"I think we're all likely to need go in," Sam grumbles later about meeting the Elders, "But yeah, Gewyn or Muir should maybe do the talky talk..."
Muir takes a rather large breath in and excitedly begins telling them about what he found
"Well you see the portals had to close for a reason....I found something in their history book that mentions an elf named Stryder, who the compass you bought Sam, seems to have belonged to. He traveled here and had a visit from the Raven Queen! His job had him traveling from realm to realm, but no mention what that job was. My guess is he went on warning each realm that the portals would be closing because a great spell had to be cast and the magic was needed for this great spell and not the portals. There, unfortunately was no mention of what the spell was or why it needed to be cast, but I am getting closer to figuring it out and piecing together all these stories...Look at how each of you have a connection to a different realm, some unfortunately so....But that was not all!" Muir exhales and takes another big breath in
"They had a scroll on dwarves! There were 5 giants, 1 stayed here, Vox Tronitor, but the other 4 were cast out to tend to other realms. Lim, the one sent to the earthen realm made dwarves. These dwarves were made specifically for that world, short in stature giving them mobility in tight places and the ability to craft great things. This made them the perfect realm travelers. These dwarves changed over time to look like the ones in our realm with a pinkish orange hue to their skin, where the ones we fought that came from Sam's seed after Hokum were pale from being under ground for so long is my guess, or the ones here that have blue in their skin color, but I digress....The person who wrote all of this information about the importance of the dwarves to these different realms had traveled to Theair, and the earthen realm....now the only way for them to do this is through a portal...So whoever this was traveled through our plane to the others....This is all very exciting. I will have to find more on this Stryder figure and what caused these portals to close"
"Do you know when your scroll was written? If it was recently then their ability to travel the realms may matter but if it was thousands of years ago... They are dust now and travelling nowhere?" Sam suggests after half listening.
Gewyn receives the cittern almost reverently, and then the Shiftweave. "You guys... I don't know what to say. You're going to make me cry."His tone is clearly joking, but as he looks down at the cittern and then back up at Sam, he looks away again quickly, eyes watering slightly. "I just finished working on a song that I think the children here will love, but I can't sing and play the pipes at the same time. Once I transpose to this instrument, I'll be able to put on a real show for them."
"Don't be getting all sloppy about it. It's not like they had other instruments to select from or anything," Sam assured Gewyn and gives him a clap on the back.
"Yup, I have two", Vin replies to Sam, patting his pack.
"I just...you know...noticed how uncomfortable you seemed to be before around folk that knew Nivara", he tries to explain to Elthana, regarding her new hat and his thought behind it.
When Muir starts to tell of his research, he locks eyes with the loxodon and whispers, "Neferox and I do have some information that might help fill in some blanks. But it is private stuff and I would rather wait until it is truly just the six of us".
He just smiles at Gewyn, glad the bard was pleased with his gift.
"Don't listen to Sam, it may have been true there was only one instrument, but he put a lot of thought into the items he chose for everyone. With a little advice from yours truly".
"Anyway, it sounds like Muir and Gewyn should be able to understand and be understood in there", he says, reaching into his pack and retrieving two potions of tongues, handing one to each of them. "We should keep one for the future just in case. Just remember to repeat what they say so the rest of us can keep up with the conversation please".
Griff nods at Sam's question and seems amused, "some form of transport is being discussed to be being created and managed on a volunteer basis, for accessing the grave of Lumithor, so that he can be having visitors"
Just before the group enter the hall, Hector comes bustling around the corner slowing down to avoid crashing into the party, he casts a quick glance and a smile at Elthana before addressing the group, "good to see you all alive and well, I was told to come get the news from you, that it pertains to my sister, come come, the elders are waiting." And he throws both the doors open, interrupting the elders discussion, and invites you all inside.
Kohso, the wizened old female kobold, sits at the center of the table, her crystal staff behind her.
Serafina, an experienced female shadar-kai, warrior who accompanied you on your travels, sits to Kohso's left.
Finally, Ömertyr, a massive blue mist giant, sits to Kohso's right, looking very bored.
Hector takes a seat to the side of the room, on the side of the table where you all stand as the elders face you. Khoso lifts her staff once more pressing it to her throat and casting a spell before saying to you all "We hear you have discovered a great revelation from Lumithor, the protector of our humble realm, and it has something to do with the state of our isle and the witch Nivara. Please, in your own time..." Oddly you all understand what she says, your brains translating her words into the language you are most comfortable with.
After exiting the enchanters and giving Vin his gift, Sam looks at the door again, squinting again, and trying to see through the enchantment. "I bet it's really red and the enchantment is just in case it chips or fades," Sam declares and then turns to the street. "We should collect the others.
