Elthana looks around the new environment and to the 4 women at the center. Why did they look different here than when we had run into them earlier? What is different and where were they?
She lifts her arms up and moves them around in a weave like pattern, the tattoo running down her left arm shifts a bit but doesn't quite look right. She stops what she is doing and looks to her friends a bit in alarm, "Something isn't right here. It almost feels dreamlike. I don't know if we are an illusion or they are, but the fact they are even admitting they are a distraction... well this is bad. I am worried they are distracting us and are after Vin and Gewyn somehow."
With a snarl, Sam chokes up on his maul and advances on the tree-ladies. He aims to get right up next to Rynwell… and reaches out and knocks on her wooden bits. “You an illusion?” He asks, both curious and angry. “Or we sleeping or something? How you delaying us? And from what?”
As Sam gets closer and closer asking his questions Rynwell backs off a little and says "tell me, does this feel like an illusion?" Suddenly she lashes out Vines extending from her arms and battering him all over until they come to a stop, retraining the half orc.
(18 to hit, 15 bludgeoning damage and restrains on hit)
At the same time Tialha, the frosted sister speaks aloud a spell which conjours forth a polar bear in front of the group.
Ready for anything, Sam isn’t shocked to see the vines suddenly reaching out for him. With a grunt and a swirls of his maul which would make a baton twirler proud, Sam deflects the attack and redirects it at Shionne. ((Cloud Rune used as a reaction…))
“Sorry, does what feel like an illusion?” Sam asks in reply.
The vines bounce harmlessly from Sam and wrap themselves tight around Shionne, her shoulders drop and she is held in a shocked state as the attack is deflected.
Muir steps back a bit behind his companions (3 squares back) and slams his staff into the ground casting from the staff animal friendship. "Hear me! They aim to hurt you and your kin. We met bear in the woods, hurt and scared because of their minions! Join us nd fight against them and their blight on this world!" Muir satisfied with his spell turns to his companions "The bear fights with us now! Do no harm to it!!"
The Large white bear rears up, at being summoned, it's intent towards the group obviously violent and indiscriminate. However at Muir's words it relaxes, carefully lowers it's front paws back onto the lush field and it's tongue lulls out of its mouth, like that of friendly dog, it grumbles a little and looks around the group, it's blood thirst completely abated.
Elthana isn't sure what is going on.. obviously the attacks are definitely not an illusion, things just don't feel right here, but there isn't much she can do about that now.
Looking down at her broken body, she sighs. Her normal actions aren't going to prove much help in this fight. But then a thought comes to her... she isn't a shadow monk for nothing. She starts moving her hands around what appears to be an invisible sphere. They move faster and faster and a hint of smoke emerges from the center. She whispers silence and the small bit of smoke shoots off and lands on a horn on Ryndell's head. The women are now deaf and are no longer able to emit verbal components for their spells. (20' radius - moves with Ryndell. 10 min long)
Elthana reaches over, grabs Vin's arm and pulls him back next to her, now feeling comfortable to speak freely, "Vin! Gewyn! Please speak up if something doesn't feel right, I'm afraid what is going to happen to you! Also, as long as I don't lose concentration, they are under my silence spell and cannot hear us talk."
She hobbles back 15' trying to keep away from combat to hold onto her concentration.
"I am with you, Elthana. Nothing has felt quite right since we stepped in that chamber. Wait..." Gewyn pulls out his mirror and looks into his reflection, trying to see beyond what is before them.
"No, no, no, this isn't right. This has never happened before." He pulls out his bird pipes and plays a short refrain, closing his eyes for a moment. When he opens the again, there is a new shimmer to them.
Sam, probably to absolutely nobody's surprise, goes to Pound Town!
The maul swings once, then twice, out at the combined tree women. Specifically Sam is aiming for the "trunk" portion where the four are still one. (If it matters.)
Swing One: 16To Hit, 16Damage
Swing Two: 18To Hit, 16Damage
Then, as a Bonus Action, Sam will pause and take a moment to gather his Second Wind for 15 points of healing to himself.
Sam's first swing glances off the sisters' tree bark, causing no harm, the second swing digs in and causes them all to react in a simultaneous and silent scream.
Vin's mind races and Nef seems to say something and Vin nods. As Elthana asks him if anything feels weird Vin tries to think anything does feel weird. He thinks back to hiw they felt as the sound of the bell tolled. He replies "Nef says this feels similar to when she was being attacked in her dreams. However, not the same either. They said they are a distraction... did it feel like we were put to sleep? If so..." He looks towards the fog that surrounds them in this glade. So little detail here. Grass, an enemy, light from above and fog blocking view from going too far out. "...What happens if we go through the fog?" Vin will notice gewyn looking through his mirror and ask "What do you see gweyn?" Vinnwas about to try and see what was beyond the fog but perhaps Gewyn has new information. Vin unsure what to do without more information he decides to try something. If this is a dream where does a summon go when called? Vin casts a spell...
"Вывядзіце таго, чыя душа была праклята, каб я звязаў іх сваёй воляй і паслужыў сваёй справе"
Vin summons Sarah, his shadow spawn of Fury, she appears much like either of the other shadowspawn which are chained to Vin's being, working their way through some kind of soul rehabilitation.
Though to vin this time Sarah seems more defined, an outline of a face appears within the usually featureless void, and Vin would know that her features are that of what he always imagined her looking like before death, as if his estimation of her appearance has sprung forth directly from his mind. She spares no time in assessing the situation and rushes forth slashing specifically at Rynwell the would be Hag.
(25 to hit, 16 cold damage.) Icy protrusions sprout forth from the bark like exterior of the Autumnal sister as all four scream out in pain and in unison once more though the sounds are stopped by Elthana's spell.
Meferox similarly jumps at the opportunity, sprinting past the polar bear which simply looks around in confusion instead of taking reactionary attacks, Neferox also targets Rynwell and successfully bites down twice tearing at the woman's bark skin, though not doing as much damage as the hound would have liked.
The polar bear turns to face the fight. But, despite Muir's claims of which side it now fights on, it sits down and yawns, bearing it's teeth and stretch its jaw wide. It does keep any eye on the fighting but as of now decides not to bother partaking, merely looking confused as to the purpose for now.
Rynwell releases Shionne from the deflected attack, meanwhile both Tialha the Winter sister and Mireah the spring sister take a step back and disappear into the trunk of their base.
Tialha appears directly next to Vin, stepping out from one of the purple trees as she does, though notably her legs are still secured to the base. Now out of the radius of Elthana's circle of silence, she mutters a chant and completely dispels the magic that Elthana cast.
Mireah appears next to Muir and lashes out at him with a fist full of Faewyld magics, (20 to hit, for 25 radiant damage) as the magic wraps around Muir he feels the power drain from his staff completely, the usual green growths that cover his gift from Master Thunberg, now wilt and look to need a good watering.
Shionne moves around the main trunk to face Sam, Sarah and Neferox, lasing out with a constricting strike similar to What Rynwell attempted with Sam, though this time Neferox is the target. (29 to hit, 13 bludgeoning damage) the vines that grow from Shionne's arm wrap around Neferox holding her where she is and making it difficult fir the dog to breathe as she is restrained.
"Together we are strong, a strength that shares both the blood of the coven and the waters of the womb, you cannot defeat this" Rynwell sneers at Sam as she once again Isabel to be heard.
"I can't see anything in my mirror at all,"Gewyn shouts. "I think we've been conjured into some other realm where the ethereal world in the mirror doesn't exist."
Sam answers Rynwell's sneer in kind, swells to Large Sized and shuffles ten feet "north" in order to flank with Neferox. Once that (Bonus Action) is done, Sam throws in a couple swings of his maul to show Rynwell how he really feels...
Maul Swing 1: 17or21to Hit, 27Damage
Maul Swing 2: 23or 14 to Hit, 25Damage
If either of the attacks hit Sam will activate his Fire Rune - the target takes an extra 2d6 (12) fire damage, and it must succeed on a STR saving throw (DC:14) or be restrained for 1 minute. While restrained by the shackles, the target takes 2d6 fire damage at the start of each of its turns. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, banishing the shackles on a success.
With a couple of hits under his belt now (hopefully) Sam will also try to get a sense if the bludgeoning damage is being effective?
"I can't see anything in my mirror at all,"Gewyn shouts. "I think we've been conjured into some other realm where the ethereal world in the mirror doesn't exist."
"Well then drop the mirror and attack them!" Sam suggests, a bit loudly.
Once Sam embiggens himself, both of his maul swings strike true, releasing the runic fore magic and restraining Rynwell, as the fire burns up her arms from the shackles she breaks through the bindings and her eyes turn to Sam, as he keep her attention, definitely her next target.
