Wanting to get a move on like the other party members, Elthana heads over to the three chests and looks them over a bit to see if there are any old traps that might still be in place.
Muir stood in the previous room quietly listening to a munching noise. He was going to say something to the others but they had to have heard it he thought to himself. The room went quiet so he figured they must have continued on. He listened to what he assumed were Sam's heavy footsteps and followed blindly in the dark. He bumped his head maneuvering through and stepped on the back of Gewyn's shoe nearly causing Gewyn to fall flat on his face....Of course he apologized but that didn't stop him from nearly knocking Gewyn over again when Gewyn suddenly stopped short in a room of sorts. "Oh for the love of mother nature" Muir summons a tiny fire in his hand shedding bright light for 10 feet and dim light another 10 feet...
Seeing no traps on the chest she is looking at, Elthana tries to open it but it is stuck fast and she can see no locking mechanism. "Hey Sam, you're pretty good with those axes, want to have a whack at this chest?"
She then heads to the middle one to get out of Sam's way and checks it for traps.

As the group makes their way into this chamber Vin seems very puzzled. Why are there tables here? Hiding chests. Sure. Tables? The half-elf makes their way to the right of the room checking out the stonework, blankets and other items near it. Trying to find some kind of clue of what this place is. What was it so many years ago? "Strange there's a desk. Some kind of stone work. Looks like someone slept here too."

Meanwhile. Nef is just on high alert for any danger.
Muir able to see a bit watches Elthana make her way to the chests and Vin check the pieces of furniture in the room. Muir wonders aloud "This is old...Peculiar this is here near the portal. Perhaps there's a journal in the desk? Any good historian, archeologist, or arcanist would keep a journal" Muir walks over and can't help but look at the old bones. He gives it a smell as he picks the bone up and tries to determine its origins
“Looks to me a hideout of some kind,” Sam says after a moment standing and looking about the room. “Just one bed so not a whole pack of goblins.. Your friend come to steal from a weird hermit if some kind?”
But, oh! Elthana was already focused on the chests and asking for help… “Oh I could definitely bust it open if need be, but we may want it intact to carry it out, eh?” That said, Sam first tries to figure out a way to open the proposed chest without breaking it. Perhaps his smith tools will allow him to dismantle the hinges or something? But if force becomes necessary, force will be used…
Gewyn walks over to the final chest, checking out the broken barrel beside it before turning his attention to the chest before him. "Now what secrets are you hiding, my dear?" he asks as he cracks his fingers and starts looking for a way to open it.
Muir begins picking through the first pile of bones that he sees, definitely goblin, likely the remnants of the ghosts friends, the ones that Elthana says he abandoned. several of the bones are broken, Muir deduces that it happened before their deaths, though the bones are old and dried, the insides hollowed from age long ago.
Vin sifts through the remnants of what is left of the stone area that had been carved out and used as a bed, the blanket just about falls apart and dust kicks up into the air at the disturbance. he finds an old waterskin, still intact and usable, he also finds a few scraps of paper, though they too fall apart, the ink on them having faded into indistinguishable marks long ago.
Sam moves to the large chest that Elthana gave up on, he brings out his Smithing tools, hoping to find something to maybe break open the chest, though when his first attempt fails he moves to try working the hinges off of the back.
Gewyn moves to the small chest furthest to the right, the only one he can work with whilst still being somewhat illuminated by Muir's small light. Similarly to Sam's predicament though, Gewyn finds the chest stuck shut, though no lock is visible.
As Elthana moves from the large chest which is stuck shut to the slightly smaller one furthest into the cave she finds it unlocked, and as she opens it, she discovers a trove of treasures, old gold coins, silver goblets, rubies and gems, One large colourful glass egg sits on the top of this pile, it gleams in the small amount of light that Muir has produced in his hand, the gilding on this egg is laden with tiny diamonds and the shards of coloured glass are fixed together with gold details.
As soon as the Elthana opens the second chest, Neferox barks toward Sam, having a keen eye out for the movement she sees what happens before he does, the chest snaps open, and bares two rows of jagged sharp teeth, a large purple tongue whips out and strikes toward Sam twice, the Chest creature screeching as it attacks, "REEEEEEEEE!!" Sam knocked off balance momentarily manages to avoid the lashing of the tongue (10 to hit, 13 to hit), but is not so lucky as to avoid the creatures bite as it slams back down on his leg.(24 to hit, 8 piercing damage, 2 poison damage)
The chest that Gewyn is looking over also snaps open and lunges for his outstretched arm attempting to bite at him, but in the nick of time Gewyn snatches his hand back (7 to hit) and watches in horror as the Chest writhes with life, jagged teeth and purple flesh inside, instinctually aggressive.
Elthana stares in wonder at all the treasure. Sure, she works for the treasury, but its rare that she sees such things as the glass egg. Lit up as it is by the low flame from Muir, it was simply breathtaking. The screeching however, brought her back to reality and she spins around.
Seeing Sam's leg caught in the thing, she heads to help him, moving the 10' to him. Then she attempts to hit it hard enough to get it to open its jaws and release her friend.
“Damnable hells!” Sam calls out as the chest he’s trying to open turns the tables and tries to open him instead. As the thing lashes out, Sam almost falls on his butt, having been squatting down to examine the thing. Instead Sam is able to turn the fall into a bit of a hop, skip and a jump away from the thing but not quickly enough to avoid the chest taking a bite of him…
“Awww, hells no!” Sam declares and quickly grabs up his maul which he’d set down next to where he was working. Smashing this thing open had been the right idea to begin with!
Without hesitation Neferox was ready to attack. She was expecting something and this definitely fit the bill. She immediately leapt into attacking the one nearest to Vin to make sure it couldn't get near the boy. For all his magical prowess the boy was still very bad in close range combat. So she leaps at the one attacking Sam maw open wide as she aims to tear it apart.

Bite Attack 2: 20 Damage: 15
Vin, seeing those two wreaking havoc, feels confident they will be fine but the one near Gewyn is right on top of the bard. vin panics a bit and wants to protect him and an odd thing happens. A glow of warm light shines from his hands as he begins to gather energy. Instead of the raw magical power he is normally slinging Vin seems to find... something else. The warm light around his hands seems to react to his thoughts more then an active casting and this warm energy zooms out towards Gewyn. Vin was at first afraid he accidently cast a spell to hurt Gewyn but instead the strange new magic took shape between the bard and the mimic. Vin was looking very surprised as this happens and soon the warm light manifest a translucent field of energy between Gewyn and the mimic. It was almost like a shield actively trying to protect him.
Cast Shield of Faith on Gewyn (Plus 2 AC)
Looking very surprised and confused at what he did Vin moves over to Muir saying "I... have no idea how I did that..." and realizes that whatever he did it was a question for another time. He focuses on his standard magical spells and gathers up two blasts of eldritch energy towards the mimic attacking Gewyn as well. It was definitely more in line with the magic the others typically see him cast as he sends off the two beams of raw magical power at the enemy.
Sam reactively slams down with his maul and as both attacks hit he sends bits of wooden chest splintering off in all directions, though as those splinters of wood hut the walls they splatter into purple ichor and sludge their way down to the ground.
Neferox has to dodge slightly put of the way of Sam's maul as she attacks the same target which causes her to hesitate on her first attack, but the second one crunches through the creatures tough exterior with ease, she seems to enjoy biting something which gives her no resistance for once.
With Gewyn's mimic still flailing and failing to attack him, the eldritch blasts that Vin sends forth clatter into the creature with precision, the creature seems slow and ambulated rather clumsily, not able to properly avoid the attack.

Muir was talking out loud to his companions about the goblin bones..."These are definitely old and definitely goblin....You can tell the difference by the size and shape of the femur when comparing them to other humanoids. Goblins have a curve to them from constantly traipsing around bent over.....over time their bones have fixed themselves to..." Muir hears the ruckus and turns around seeing the others fiddle with treasures and get attacked by mimics....Muir sighs "This is why I don't adventure with adventurers...." He grumbles to himself as he gets up to help them. He sees Vin's new found power. He smiles and pats the boy on the shoulder before moving a few steps away to help Gewyn. He takes out some thorns and wraps them around his staff as he bashing the staff on the ground. A line of prickly vines rise up from the ground trying to wrap the mimic and yank it towards Muir
Gewyn dances back from the Mimic. "Oh wow, I've told plenty of stories about these, but I never thought I'd meet one in the flesh."A little shaken, but less than he'd have been in the past, he notices the shimmering energy before him. "That's a neat new trick."He turns to see the expression on Vin's face. "This yours? Very cool. Thank you!"(Bardic Inspiration 1d8)
Muir's thorn whip digs into the mimic and drags it screeching along the ground, by this point both of the mimics look bloodied and not overly happy.
The giant one by Sam slams out with its tongue once at Sam (9 to hit) and then another at Neferox (12 to hit) missing both shots, though as Neferox is still attempting to chew the creature's lid it also attempts to bite back at her, (17 to hit, 7 piercing damage + 2 poison damage)
The Mimic that Muir successfully thornwhipped, uses this movement to its advantage, purple tentacles sprout from the bottom of the chest and it hurriedly scrambles over to him lashing out with its tongue, (19 to hit, 6 bludgeoning damage) as the tongue wraps around the loxodon, an adhesive goo sticks Muir's skin to the beast, and Muir is held there grappled by the thing.
Sam, bit and angry, still pauses for the briefest of moments and smiles at the biter being hit and biting back… but he then aims carefully do as to avoid unintentionally snacking Neferox a good one, and swings his maul again.
First attack: 30 to hit (nat 20) for 26 damage
If the creature still lives Sam will use his Crusher feat to move it five feet away from Neferox. Mainly just ‘cause he can.
Second attack: 26 to hit and 17 damage
If creature was dead already then obviously Sam is moving to the other one for successive swings..
Sam's anger does wonders for his strikes as the rage pulses through his arms and delivers two devastating blows to the creature, shattering it's lid off and leaving splatters across the cavern walls, upon his second swing the thing lays across the broken desk unmoving.
Gewyn spins as the mimic rushes past him, slashing at it in passing (AoO) and then flinging two daggers out at its back. "Don't worry Muir, I'd hardly call myself an adventurer! I got your back!"(Bardic 1d8 to Muir)
