“Can you tell me the difference between a witch and a wizard?" "Sure, a wizard is what they call you when they want to hire you, and a witch is what they call you when they're getting ready to run you out of town.” SunWolf replied ― Barbara Hambly, The Witches of Wenshar
Millwater comes to a stop in front of Sorrow "Ye gods, it happened so fast and in my defense my idea seemed fabulous at the time!" He holds his blooded shaking hands up "I thought I could get the man called mayyor, by these 2 you just killed." uses both hands too point to the bodies "I think its the mayor of the village! He mentioned no one had cats in the village and then"raises voice"TRIED TO EAT ME! I wanted to lead him back here, but he closed the distance unexpectedly I I I gutted him in panic" extracts his claws and looks at the blooded hands then up at Sorrow "There were 5 tents I saw, a locked chest and the mayyor body at the camp. Karie's pole was broken I put the pieces in the bucket. Everything is as I found it except the fish, it's very good and ready too eat!" Couple deep breaths to gather his thoughts "These people are evil"
"I really thought I could've made the mayyor think I was a cat, didn't mean to kill him and I lost Arashi" looks down dejected "I'm sorry"
He walks over to retrieve his drag. He removes the shovel and a bar of soap. Swings the spear and poke with his supplies over his shoulder. "When we get to the camp I'll dig a latrine, wash up, and make rice balls with the fish."
Sorrow straightens back up then reached out to grip Millwaters shoulder. ‘It’s ok. Sometimes the Fates dictate our actions rather than adhering to what we’d like to happen. As long as you are unhurt…’ She looks around at the group. ‘Sounds like Mill found their camp. How bout we-hmm. You said 5 tents, right? With no captives in any of them? Did you happen to see how many bedrolls were in each?’ She looks to the group. ‘Something doesn’t smell right-and I don’t mean the fish or the blood and guts leaking all over. 8 men-that we’re aware of-wouldn’t need that many tents pitched unless they had captives or were expecting to get some-Or there’s more men floating around here... I would think the leader-mayyer you said-would most likely sleep in his own bed in town. Argh! Too many variables.’ She blows air thru clenched teeth. ‘Good work Mill. That report gives us some idea of what we face. I had plans to turn the remainder of them into squealing piglets but that may not be possible. Ok-how bout this: Mill, Arashi and Vee head back to keep tabs on the camp. Preferably from cover, but if you have to be in the camp try to keep a retreat path open. The rest of us-Let’s tie the feet of each deader together and we’ll drag them back to their camp. After that, we can see what’s up. Sounds good? Or anybody have a better idea-speak up. Or if you see a flaw put it out there. Please.’
Vee cleans the warhammer before sliding it back in its clip, trading it out for his bow. He checks the string, then repairs the quiver for easy access. Once he’s done all that he’ll nod at Millwater. ‘Lead on my silent friend.’
After Millwater tells you of the camp you all prepare to head down the path to the clearing that the young lady told you about as her favorite fishing spot. You look at her catch bucket with the pieces of her broken fishing pole within. Millwater gathers his equipment before leading you down to the hidden fishing spot along with what looks like a camp at the southern point where a low fire continue to bake the now empty roasting split. You see the five tents and as you get closer you can see one of the tents also the largest one has only one bedroll along with a desk and locked chest. The other four have two bed rolls per tent. They are positioned in and arc across the fire from the bigger tent all with their open end facing the fire.
I will need a perception or insight check from everyone.

Taking in the camp, the number of tents and bedrolls Sorrow does the mental math #6 dead from first round, 1 captive is 7. 2 more after that is 9 plus Mill did in the mayor is 10. Fish is missing...but not the tents, bedding, equipment...must be at least one guard out there somewhere-wait-no deader mayor!#
As you all enter camp Millwater sees that the fish he left are no longer cooking above the fire. You can see the Mayer where he fell next to the fire. Looking at the remains of the fire you can see two fish that were over done had fallen into the fire and are now burnt but still parts are edible if one gets them out of the coals quickly Tail Feathers examines the broken fishing pole. She feel that the broken parts are now useless and Karie will need to get a new pole. The fishing line is salvageable to use with a new pole. As tail feathers looks over and enters the camp proper she notices some loose dirt behind the bigger tent.

Looking to the others, Tail speaks up about the dirt. “There seems to be some fresh turned turned by the larger tent. We should check that out.” Smiling as Millwater helps, Tail Feathers starts working to fix the fishing pole. “Thank you. I know I would like to get something I seen as a favorite returned. Hopefully we can repair it to almost like new.”
Sorrow nods in agreement. 'Yes, lets scour this camp for whatever we can find-including the tents and all the equipment. Maybe see if there's any horses, or an indication of any of the lost wagons/supplies.' She tosses the captive down and unslings her backpack. 'Let's also gather a couple larger Y limbs' pointing at the spit'a lot bigger than that-say, something large and thick enough that it would hold a whole hog. Plus extra firewood, lots of extra firewood. Vee-watch this feller a bit while I fix his bed(she snickers a bit after the word bed).'
She pulls out several pitons and a small hammer. She drives two pitons into the ground until only the eyelet shows, roughly 6' apart. She drags the captive over, undoes the ties binding his hands and runs the rope from the hands thru the eyelets, placing him face down on the ground. She repeats the process for his legs. Then, standing between his legs she hammers another one into the ground-almost touching his scrotum. The captive jerks his head off the ground, eyes wide-that's how close she got it. And his reaction was what she was looking for as she drops a noose around the top of his head and runs the rope thru the last eyelet and pulls it tight, thus forcing his head to remain up off the ground.
She nods in satisfaction at her handiwork, then proceeds to 'roll the body' of the mayor-specifically looking for a key, but also categorizing/separating out whatever she finds on him. She'll take the time to check the stitching on his clothes and the linings as well-including the boots/shoes. Once done, she'll move on to the obvious leaders tent and start to the left of the chest, work to the back corners away from the chest then up the right side back to the chest, slowly and methodically testing and searching the ground, the tent flaps, the lining, the bedroll, the tent poles-bottom to top and back again. If after all that there is no key, she will ask if anyone in the party has the skills to open or pick a lock. If the key is found she won't ask but will wait to open the chest till everyone is gathered back around.
Vee waits until Sorrow indicates she's satisfied with her truss work, then he heads toward the woods to look for the new spit limbs and or firewood, a tad curious as to why she wants such large spit pieces and so much wood when it's obvious they have nothing as large as a hog to roast. He shrugs, admitting silently to himself that he hasn't the courage to question her about it, especially as it's not an unreasonable request and-most of all-she WAS pretty impressive wielding that damned axe.
it dawns on him as he's looking for the forked limbs that she'll most likely want a cross limb stout enough to support this imaginary hog... So he'll also be on the lookout for one.
Millwater washes up at the waters edge. Afterwards looks for a suitable stick to fashion a pole from. He then walks back to give Tail Feathers the pole. "Karie will love getting a pole back with her old grip on it!" He looks over at the trussed up bandit in morbid fascination "I'm gonna get lunch started at the fire."
He sets up his pots and pans with practiced skills. And soon has pure water coming out the distillery apparatus. His jaw drops as he sees Veeshal drag a large forked branch towards the fire. He looks at the bandit and thinks (I only got enough rub for maybe a leg. It will take all day and night to make sausage) Drool drips down a fang. Slaps himself hard (What the hell is wrong with you?) Shakes his head and says "If you all have favorite crunchies and chewies nows the time to throw in the pot!" As he gets the rice and noodles prepared
With Millwaters help Tail Feathers is able to remake the fishing rod so it looks almost brand new. The two of you feel that Karie will much appreciate that her rod and bucket were not lost. Mean while Sorrow, Veeshal and Festoon search the camp. When searching the man Millwater said was "Mayor" you find a small key. You determine that this key may open the small chest in the bigger tent. As you are done searching the camp you hear Tail feathers tell you of a disturbed piece of dirt behind the main tent.
You find the following in the camp
four two man tents and one four man tent, a set of cooking pots, a hatchet, Two leather armor that has been haphazardly pieced together, two unkempt short swords, a dagger, two pairs of nice clothes and a ruined set having been ruined do to blood and being ripped open. Eight smelly bed rolls, a cot and another bed roll that has been washed not long ago as it does not smell. .A camp table with one folding chair. Plus a locked small chest.
After all of this Mill water is now cooking a meal for everyone, Veeshal is coming back into the camp carrying two stout branches with a Y split. He also has a slightly bent branch that would fit across the fire resting in the notch of the two other branches.
What is your next move?
