The woman had looked to Drezmir with a bit of a scoff to his attitude, though her eyes had lightened if only for a moment to his actions she had shaken her head.
"A real prince charming ain't cha? You're type either end up stabbing me in the back in the end, or end up dead in a ditch because of naivety. You're fine feathered friend, seems to understand how serious this situation is.
She had squinted her eyes when he apologized for the fight before.
"Sorry? You've no clue we weren't the aggressors or not, I could be a monster in skins clothing. I could be here for the shoes on you're feet the shirt on you're back and the gold in that purse and nothing more. As for my disguise.. I did it because you're Shadir Kai friend was brave enough to show his true form. Our kind aren't always trusted, Radiance may have gotten the tie-flings integrated but.. They haven't had time for us I guess. Not that you exactly see tiefling nobles around here either.
Kocino had told the woman if his wielding a pan was enough of an answer. She crossed her arms eyeing her fellow Shadir Kai for a moment.
"You know as well as me that one can disguise intentions with equipment and appearance. An assassin can easily take the role of a chef, and though the meal may be fine.. It must be large too. You'll need you're friends aid, I have plenty of hungry people back in the underground. If you're friends are willing to help. Supervised than perhaps this is better."
"Mam! This is pointless! We have them surrounded with crossbow men! All ready to shoot that bird down and surrounded on the ground this is money on a platter and-"
"Look around fool! None of them are afraid, even knowing one can die they aren't afraid. I've stolen purses with you louts for some time now, none of you have ever put you're life on the line. None of you would fight a battle that is uphill. We may win.. MAY being a key word, but not without casualty. These people have seen battle, with dangerous folk and beast. I don't expect you to see it, but from one warrior to another.. I know they have a warriors grit. Even the naive one, he carries an air of fearlessness.. No it's more than that, it's the ability to push those fears away init? The brute beside the wolf looks like he's lived in nothing but wilderness, a bird that doesn't even care four men are trained on him. He'd be the first shot down and yet he's ready to fight all the same. If any of my louts had 4 cross bow men on them you'd bet they'd be surrendering no doubt."
The man had fallen silent as she turned around gesturing for them all to follow her.
OOC Can Drezmir roll me persuasion to convince that he is of no harm ^~^
If the group agree's to follow I'll write up the next scene but didn't wanna presume they weren't going to attack them right here and now or anything xD
Meanwhile with Sy he had taken the paper and now he was ready to find his friends and trying to find his way back to the town square and look for his allies. He wasn't sure where to go but he could try to track them down.
OOC Roll me survival! Those sending stones might be helpful for splitting up in the future haha xD
(For the first two rolls it was nat 1 and nat 2, so I rerolled to see if it would stay very low and I got a nat 8. Plus the +4 modifier I have 5, 4 and 12. Which one should I use? Besides, either way he isn’t finding the party anytime soon)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Persuasion: 10
Drezmir laughs, "You have a point there." He hadn't considered the fact that these people likely were the aggressors in whatever fight they'd found themselves in. Yet whether they were or not didn't change the fact that he was still sorry for them. Either they'd been attacked, or for some reason they felt the need to do the attacking. Whether driven by hard times or by greed, either way he felt he should pity them. He would not say this aloud though, as he realizes he's already let his mouth run far enough.
He doesn't want to provoke this person, even if he's starting to find her demands a little annoying. If they needed help then they should ask for it, nicely. This felt like they were being lured into some sort of servitude--and he doesn't like that at all. Regardless, he will keep his mouth shut for now. He keeps his hands up behind his neck, still showing that he's not afraid of these people...as for her talk of true forms... The thought of the fox nearly made him shiver. He knew well enough that whatever that...fox form was, it wasn't his true form. It wasn't. Needless to say, if he were to show it...if he could even bring himself to grasp hold of that power...he had a feeling that these people wouldn't hesitate to attack. Just as most of the others in this city. Even if he went on never showing his true form, not many people cared much for his blood magic. He remembered all to well the first reactions of his friends during the battle with the hill giants. Part of him wanted to further sympathies with her, as it seems that her kind...and Kocino's kind for that matter...were not really accepted here in this city. He might not know what it is like to be unaccepted by his home, but he does know what it is like to be an outcast... sort of anyways. His seclusion was of a completely different nature...but he still felt like he could relate. Still, he resigned himself to staying quiet, deciding it best to let Kocino do the talking here and hoping that he didn't already cross a line. He might not fear these people, but he doesn't want to resort to bloodshed unless necessary.
He raises an eyebrow at the mention of stealing purses, but decides to let it slide for now. After all, Robin was stealing in Glazing Winds before they met him, and he seems to be turning out alright. If these people have fallen on hard times...then he is willing to cut them some slack. At least...depending on who exactly they are stealing from and for what reason. Hopefully this doesn't take to long. After all, he has Leonard's blade to worry about too. He meant to get that today. He'd told Flynn as much, and he won't go back on his word. At least he'd said he would do it today if he is able. Hopefully he will be. For now... well he'll just have to wait and see.
Kocino motions for his own friends to follow along. “Just like your men, we will be keeping our guards up as well. We will cook and do it well, but we will not be played for fools.”
His beak twisted into a smirk, Corvus continues watching this exchange. He is finding this conversation rather amusing. This woman could read Drezmir like a book...not that he was difficult to read, but the aarakocra likes the way she's throwing it in the half-elf's face. Perhaps the fool will learn from this experience, but he doubts it. Drezmir may be a fool at times, but he is strong enough to take care of his mistakes before they could hurt him to badly... At least, he has been so far. There may still be a time when he trips and finds nothing to land on. Red eye's sparkling, Corvus has to stop himself from crossing his arms. With his metal limb currently hidden inside his long sleeve, he does not want to provoke these people by flashing steel. He doubts those with crossbows pointed at him would wait for an explanation before shooting as soon as they see metal.
Though this conversation has been amusing, as it continues Corvus's smirk slowly shifts back to a scowl. He is perfectly fine with Kocino cooking for these people, but he does not have any intention to help. He is no cook, and he will not be bullied into serving these people. If Kocino and the others want to be slaves for the day, they can go right ahead, but they can leave him out of it. For now, he keeps this to himself. He'll play along as long as is necessary to get him into the camp.
He continues listening to the Shadar Kai, smirk returning as she explains her reasoning to her men. This one is smart. He hopes he can shift this farther to his favor rather than this woman becoming a greater obstacle. When she gestures for everyone to follow, Corvus waits for a moment watching his friends before spreading his wings and gliding after them, while still staying above the buildings.
Sy finds himself, rather lost in the undercity here and it didn't seem as bright and cheery as Radiance above. He was very clearly lost for that matter but perhaps in time he could gain his bearings but in that meantime.. Something felt off.
Meanwhile in the party the woman tilted her head at Drezmir, the guard in her eyes had never lowered but her body began to relax if just a bit. The woman had laughed at Kocino's phrase it didn't seem condescending but it seemed rather she had agreed with his sentiment.
"I would hope a fellow Shadir Kai wouldn't be so easily fooled."
The woman had seen Corvus stay above the buildings, a tactical move. One her men had saw as well, they kept crossbows ready mostly of fear that Corvus would and could decent suddenly and whenever he wanted.
It had taken a bit but she began to lead them down alleyway and alleyway before leading them to a darker undercity. It seemed course and the buildings had many pipes with leaks and the people themselves had looked just as rough. Unlike in the uppercity there wasn't a single soul that didn't at least keep some sort of steel upon them. She had looked around before guiding them past a showy and rather fancy building.. Glowing lights and well kept. Beautiful even for noble standards and clashed with the undercity. It was than down the street the party could finally see.. Sy and he seemed rather lost. The woman turned ready to head down the alley beside "The Garden"
Sy could feel a hand brush his pocket a young boy, an elven boy for that matter appeared to have a case of sticky fingers it would seem. He had bumped into Sy with a slight apology but Sy's senses were sharp enough to be aware of the boys true intentions with his coin purse.
“Alright, I’m glad there is one thing we can easily agree upon.” Kocino follows the woman. “Now what kind of foodstuff do you have at your disposal? And how many will I be feeding? I’ll be adding my own compatriots as well. I feel it’s only fair that we partake in the meal that we prepare, plus it’s another show of trust. We eat the same food so you know there is less of a risk of shenanigans on my part.”
The group passing by the alleyway can see this kid bump into Sy before trying his best to make a mad dash. The kid's sudden movement in the crowd had even caught the Shadir Kai's notice for a moment before she turned back to Kocino.
"You'll be cooking for a several dozen people, I can of course assign people to aid you as I don't expect one person to cook so much food alone. Feel free to direct them as you see fit in this endeavor"
OOC She would lead them through the alley to her base but I thought I'd give the party a chance to interact with Sy's current situation if they so desired.
If possible, wolf Jess will try to leap in front of the pickpocketer and growl, both trying to block his way and to frighten him from going that way / getting away
Sy turns to the rest of the group, before saying to the thief as he runs: “No need in pickpocketing me, there was never anything there. Besides, if I ever did have money, I would put it in my mask.” He turns to his group: “I was exploring the city and found this regal-quality establishment with a list of jobs we can do. I took two of them, but the one I did not take was being soldiers for a neighbouring town or city.” He then pulls out the job lists he had in the other pocket. “The other two here is fighting orc marauders in what I think is a sewer, and fighting two powerful individuals.”
The small elven boy jumped a bit scared, it seemed even in this shady place a few onlookers had looked upon the situation with worry. From their perspective a beast was suddenly threatening a small child. Many had no context for where these beast had come from only that it was now showing aggression! Many nearby ragged travelers had drawn crossbows and the like.
"H-Help! Beast! Beast!"
"Must have somehow gotten in the city walls.. Odd, well hope you can pay me kid. I don't kill shit for free."
"Not if I take it's hide first! Oroc will crush and take it's pelt!"
A human archer and a brutish orc had begun to argue over who would take her. The others were taking aim, as the group had noticed earlier no one here in the undercity traveled without a weapon. The Shadir Kai woman had stopped and froze for a moment, she wasn't sure what to do or how to help the situation. She didn't wanna risk her neck and get in the crossfire.
"If you guys don't act, their going to shoot you're mutt. You gotta be careful with animals going aggressive, even if she was right on the money about that kid. Classic cutpurse."
True Sy hadn't money but he did have vials of perfume on his person and Sy could feel he was currently one vial shorter. Perhaps the kid had planned on selling it later? It certainly wasn't much of a score however. The kid looked a bit panicked as Sy began to call him out.
"This creepy man in the mask.. He's using his beast to take me to his dark rituals! Please help! I-I can pay! Please help!"
Now the worrying eyes were turning not only from Jess but to Sy as well and his... Strange appearance. Some had heard what he had said and even lowered arms but most of them had stayed strong.
"He must be with that damn cult! Working with the dragons!!"
“Nothing to worry about; this is merely my choice of attire. You may be just as freaked out if I took off the mask. Either way, I am not one to fear. I could explain you why I wear it but that would be another story in itself, one I do not like to remember.”
He turns to the Shadir Kai woman for a small moment, before immediately seeing if a red Dragonborn is in sight; this may very well have been the person mentioned in the job. If a red Dragonborn is in sight, he quickly puts that listing of the ‘Red Cross Thugs’ job offer directly back into his pocket. If there is no red Dragonborn, he sighs in relief beneath his mask; that would’ve been very awkward and potentially dangerous for both ends.
Originally, Drez had no intention of drawing attention to Sy. The tiefling was perfectly capable of handling a child, and it didn't seem wise to get him involved in whatever they just got themselves into--better to have at least one ally on the outside. However, it seemed Jess had other ideas, jumping into action before Drez could try to communicate his thoughts.
Trying to act quickly, Drezmir rushes to put himself between Jess and as many of the armed bows as possible. "No one is shooting this wolf. She is a comrade of mine." He glances at Jess, hoping that she will revert to her humanoid form if only to show everyone that she is not a feral animal. Then he looks at Sy, before gesturing to him, "This one is part of my company as well. You have nothing to fear from us as long as you don't threaten us." He eyes the boy, "And there are better ways to make money than stealing." He holds out a hand, "Would you mind returning whatever it was you stole from this man? I will give you coin in return, enough to keep you from sticking your fingers into other's pockets for a while. If you are smart, perhaps you can figure out how to start making your own money before it runs out."
Still holding a hand towards the kid, he turns his attention to the crowd. For a moment, he considers saying something that he realizes he might regret... announcing that they just killed some of those so called dragons and are actively hunting down that cult... but then it occurs to him that they might not even be talking about the same group--even though it seems highly unlikely for there to be two separate groups dealing with dragons. Still, he says instead, "What is this I hear about a cult and dragons? We've had our fair share of run-ins with cultists, and have no desire to get involved in anything with them or any other cults aside from ending them." If the people surrounding them still have weapons raised, he flashes a smile and says, "Please, I would appreciate it if you lowered your weapons. If you don't want to talk then we will be on our way."
Jess realizes her mistake and thinks quickly. Reverting back to humanoid form might further upset the crowd, talking as they are about dark rituals and cults. Instead she changes her demeanor, hopping about playfully, barking happily, rolling on the ground at the boy's feet, her feet splayed playfully in the air, just generally looking absolutely undignified and ridiculous.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Corvus, still airborn above the buildings, glowers down at this situation. He had been hoping to loose that weird teifling. Well, at least they seemed to have lost that pesky fairy, and that annoying paladin, but still. At least the paladin was a good meat shield. That growling, clicking noise sounds in his throat again, though its quiet enough that those on the ground can't hear. These people, and that teifling are getting in the way, if not for them, his group would already be in the shadar kai's base. Cult working with dragon's they say? Hmmm. How about they deal with a real dragon even if it is just a small one.
Suddenly, Crow flies out behind the two thugs who were arguing about who gets to kill Jess. He lands on the orc's shoulder and hisses at the human while raising his barbed tail over his head. If the two take the bait, the little dragon will leap off the orc's shoulder and fly straight into the crowd in an attempt to lead them away from the party. Once he does that, he will attempt to lose the two and circle back to the group, remaining hidden all the while.
As Sy began to explain it had appeared many of the bystanders were not.. Sated exactly by that explanation. In fact the statement "you'd only be more freaked out if I lowered my mask." Had those that were on the fence about fighting slowly raise their arms once more instead.
Though Sy could see the Shadir Kai and she did seem to be the only Shadir Kai woman around.. She may have fit that job description but there was no Red Dragonborn to be seen. The people had seen Drezmir try and explain the wolf and the child but when he claimed that he was Sy's friend they seemed confused. Drezmir had called the kid a thief as well, now this had a few questioning the situation but the more stubborn ones had remained prepared.
"You're working with em than huh?!"
The boy looks up at Drezmir however as the crowd begins to argue, he tilted his head at Drezmir's sword and his armor. The way he held himself and they way he had talked. There was a sparkle in the childs eye before a bit of guilt invading his eyes. He had looked to the crowd unsure what to say in Drezmir's defense he was.. Scared to admit he lied but also.. Drezmir offered him money. The child had doubt swarm his eyes as he clenched his hands close to his ragged tunic across his chest. Though in the boy's uncertainty Jess had reverted back to her human form to show the crowd. Before coming back to her form to play around with the boy. The boy had to choke back tears before letting out a fit of laughter and almost by instinct the boy had started playing and petting at Jess giggling.
The crowd looked.. Confused by this to say the least. A few grumbling that this was turning into a giant waste of time. Though a few started looking angrily at the boy now!
"Was this a cutpurse scam! Gods damn it! Boy.. You'll learn a lesson about wasting strangers time!"
OOC What was the nat 1 dex for? Before I write out the outcome of Corvus's action xD
