The brown bear at first looks to Emma with concern when Emma falls face down in the filthy water, but when the guildswoman rises and attacks with such wild abandon, Juniper recoils, eyes wide in fear, sniffing the air for danger. She wonders, as if at a distance, what has happened to her companion, shocked, never having imagined her capable of such a frenzy. But the mound grabs the druid’s attention again. The only explanation that makes sense to her is that the infant is the creature’s captive. Then the demon’s strange illusion pulls her back into focus like a slap across the face. The bear growls menacingly, rising to stand on hind legs, and then in a quick motion, drops forward upon the vile creature. The full weight of her heavy arms, like thick tree limbs, ram sharp claws down into the devilish flesh, and then she pulls back, muscles rippling, trying to free Walter.

Kal sways on his feet, grimacing, as a vision flashes before his eyes. After a moment he shakes his head violently to clear it and refocuses on what's happening before him. As much as he wants to help free the child from the mound of flesh encompassing him, Kal doesn't see what he could do to help more than Emma and Star's current attempts, so continues to try to burn away the flesh from the mound.

In response to the vision, Emma backs away in fearful pain, which looks like an animal that backs away from fire. But momentarily after, she cries - something between a roar and a scream - before pouncing again on the mound of flesh. This time, she doesn't try to cut through the flesh of the mound. Stabbing right through it, she tries to get to Walter. Like a wolf biting into its prey's neck, she aims for the kill with little regard for her own safety.
Round 2/10 of Rage. Using Reckless Attack to get an advantage on her attack, Emma attacks again. Attack: 16 Damage: 8.
Emma attempts to make use of her inner fury to gain an advantage in battle. Unfortunately, the writhing mass of flesh doesn't make it easy for her to strike, and she misses her target.
In retaliation, one of the flesh limbs strikes towards Emma, as it attempts to keep Emma away.
(Attack: 22 Damage: 2 bludgeoning damage.)
Then another fleshly limb attempts to attack Juniper, also keeping her back.
(Attack: 14 Damage: 3 bludgeoning damage.)

When brown bear Juniper is smashed by the fleshy limb, she is forced backwards, splashing fountains of murky water around her with each step, and she must shake her furry head briskly to regain her bearings. But only for a moment.
Roaring, she lunges forward again, attempting to wrestle the infant Walter from the unnatural creature’s grasp.
After receiving so many blows the mound of flesh is weaker. In her brown bear form, Juniper attempts to pull Walter from the mound and with a lot of effort she pulls the infant from the mound. The mound of flesh breaks apart as soon as Walter is pulled free from the creature's grasp.
Just at that moment, the ground beneath the very feet of the group beings to shake, and chunks of the tunnel system begins to fall down. The house is collapsing in on itself.

Any satisfaction Juniper may have felt at rescuing Walter from the clutches of the flesh creature quickly succumbs to panic as the ground begins to shake and chunks of rock begin raining down on her and her compatriots.
Holding Walter’s collar firmly in her jaws, she looks to the others, and will drop the infant into the hands of whomever will take him.
As if from a distance, she wonders, ‘If the roof caves in, what is the safest spot in this room?’
Perception: 5
She readies herself to leap and hold up — with her back — any part of the ceiling that caves in over a member of the party.
Emma continues to frantically stab what before was the mound of flesh, deapite it falling apart and moving no more. It is only when a chunk of the ceiling falls next to her which seems to attract her attention to her surroundings, that she stops.
Emma looks up for a mere moment, then flashes her eyes towards Walter and Juniper holding him. Due to the expression on her face, now visible to Juniper, Emma looks ferally defensive. An animal pushed into a corner, fighting for its life. For a brief moment, it looks like she might even jump on Juniper next - any moving creature nearby.
But before that happens, Emma falls down to the ground. As if her muscles gave in, or perhaps she lost consciousness. But the moment is brief, and before she hits the flesh underneath, she reaches her hands forward to stop the fall.
Emma sits on the pile of flesh for a moment. She shifts her wet hairs away from her eyes, revealing an expression of utter bewilderment. A moment, later, when another large chunk of the ceiling falls nearby, Emma looks up to see the cracks forming in the ceiling. Her expression immediately changes to that of intense fear, she screams and looks around, searching for the exit. Is the path still blocked?
As the house continues to rumble, Juniper realises that infant Walter is still and cold to the touch.
Emma sees that the portcullis blocks the way back through the tunnel. However, the wheel to open the portcullis is easier to reach from this side. It is still going to take some time and effort to open the exit

Shocked that the baby is cold to the touch, Juniper decides to postpone thinking about it until she herself is not shaking hands with Death. Continuing to keep Walter — or his body, at any rate — safe, the brown bear dodges falling chunks of ceiling, and moves toward the doorway, still ready to hold up the roof should it collapse before the others can open the portcullis.
(OOC: is the stairway beyond the portcullis also collapsing?)
Kal lets out a sigh a relief as the mound collapses and Juniper is able to pull Walter free, only for the sigh to turn into a groan halfway through as the cavern starts to rumble. Eyes darting around looking for an exit, he spots the portcullis. With a wave of his hand, Kal casts Mage Hand. The hand starts turning the wheel to open the portcullis even as Kal starts to race in that direction.

With no better options, Emma runs to the wheel, hoping she could raise the portcullis enough for everyone to pass before the ceiling caves in on her. She's frightened, but the imminent danger drives her to action. Her legs almost move on their own, preventing Emma from freezing in place.
The brown bear’s big head turns gracelessly to regard Emma, her eyes showing gratitude, or maybe just fear. But only for a second. Then the bear, Walter hanging by his onesie from her jaw, stands on hind legs to hold the portcullis up so that Emma may pass safely through. When everyone is outside the room, Juniper slips out from underneath the gate and lets it slam shut behind her.
