Lucky gives up on trying g to get any info out of the dragonborne unwilling to follow through on any of his threats.
We need to go to town to get paid. Just know if you down hand over the amulet that big blike with the sick axe going to have something to say about it. Then Zanoth is going to have to kill him and we will be wanted in yet another town.... either way I want to get paid for this crap job, may the hells have their way after.
Gor looks at the prisoner "If he gets the groups funds for the next leg of the journey then he should stay alive....but if you need me to, I can.....dispose of him? Otherwise we should be on our way to town at next light if it is getting late"
(OOC: I hate to be the instigator of in party fighting, but I KNOW Mills would have heard, registered, and reacted to Lucky saying: "we will be wanted in yet another town." As an agent of law enforcement for the Republic, that should not sit well with him...)

(It ain't easy being the lawful stick in the mud lol. I have been trying to come up with how to respond to this)
"Lucky... I am an enforcer of law and order, standing up for justice in the wilder places that need an even hand and a more colorful view of law than black and white justice. If you are a wanted man, tell me. I can report your assistance in addressing much more serious crimes - I hope- and get you a pardon. Or at least stand next to you in a court."
Lucky looks at Mills giving him a hard look for a second before a smile breaks across his face and laughs.
Boy Scout let's not pull on this thread. Some questions best not asked for your sake. As for court I'll pass but I'll keep that in mind if my luck runs out.
For the nonce, Mills decided to let Lucky's admission of being wanted in at least one town pass without pushing harder for real truths. The horseback ride from the cave Gor's animal friends found for them to rest back towards Hyssop Ridge and their reward passed smoothly, and uneventfully. Amryn had blessed the day with a high bright sun, a beautiful azure sky dotted only occasionally by pure-white puffy clouds. At one point along the ride, the party's dragonborn prisoner, Talteth, made another attempt to escape, trying to flop himself off of Drax's horse, but Drax reacted quickly, grabbing the ropes, holding him in place with one hand and then whapping his kin on the back of the head with the butt of his weapon. After that Talteth seemed to settle into his fate, stopped complaining, and just lay inert astride the tall, shaggy footed, Highland horse.
At one point during a midday break to nibble on some trail rations, everyone watched Mills counting something on his fingers. Moments later his face sparked a huge grin. Lucky couldn't help but ask: "What the hell are you smiling about?"
"It's Starleaf already. We passed out of the month of Oglug on the trail a couple days ago. In about a tenday the elves will be celebrating the Spring Equinox. Boy, now that's a party." Mills kept a huge smile while he spoke, apparently thinking of fond memories of prior equinox festivals.
Zanoth, ever the pragmatist, as was the rule in Th'gold'rak, spoiled his memories. "Alderanyëis currently occupied by Talteth's force, I doubt they're celebrating anything. Or if they are, it's most likely subdued, somber, andsecret."
Mills' smile immediately disappeared, Gor let out an exasperated noise, and Lucky just shook his head. "He's not wrong, but still." Talteth who was being fed some dried meat by Drax, chuckled. His laugh was rewarded by a backhand from Drax that left the prisoner's eye bruised and beginning to swell.
As the day passed into evening, Mills suggested pushing on for just a bit, "another hour" he said, "we can get back to the Ridge by midday tomorrow with a little luck and good weather." That push made the horses sweat more than usual, so Mills took it upon himself to brush them down with some dry grass after Gor did his usual and spoke with some local critters to find a good hidden spot to rest. It wasn't a cave so much as the leeward side of a jutting of rock reaching skyward out of the forest floor on the downside of well forested hill. A good spot, but not safe enough to light a fire. "We're too close to hunting grounds, a fire would attract attention, bundle up." Is all Mills said when asked about it.
(OOC: I've added "The Narrator" as a character in the campaign so that I can roll dice more easily than within a post. So you'll start seeing some dice rolls in the log from that character. Those are DM rolls for various purposes. BTW everyone's exhaustion levels are gone.)
All watches of the night passed peacefully and without incident. Amryn and Aldellion blessed the group with another day of nice weather, a slight breeze coming up from the south continued to help melt the thicker snow patches that still clung to places here and there. More blue sky, and not a cloud to be seen. Mills was right, and the extra push the night before helped, and the group made it back to Hyssop Ridge just before midday. The Outlanders pulled up by the town hall, since they knew that Talteth would need to be locked up in the iron cage inside. The hubbub of their return crescendoed quickly enough that Mayor Bercha came all but sprinting around a corner within mere moments of the group unhorsing.
"Praise the Light!" He half shouted. "You all are back safe, and by the looks of it were rather succesful." Bercha gave the bound and gagged Talteth a concerned examination. "Quick, inside, let's get this out of the sight of the townsfolk." He said this, he clearly meant Talteth. Drax snuffed a bit, but wasn't overly offended.
Once inside, Bercha unlocked the iron cage at the fore of the building and Drax shoved Talteth inside, pushing him to his knees with the force of the shove.
"I can't wait to hear all about your adventure, but first, did you retrieve Feorac's amulet?" Bercha asked with eager anticipation. Both Gor and Zanoth got a strange feeling in their gut when Bercha asked the question. The mayor of Hyssop Ridge seemed a little too eager for news of an amulet that he originally thought was all but worthless...
There is very clear disappointment on Bercha's face as soon as he hears Zanoth's words. The figurehead mayor of Hyssop Ridge then turns to Mills and says, "Vivi helped us track down her co-conspirators, and some of the Eorl's soldiers came and took them to his estate for further questioning. Apparently these cults have been popping up around the kingdom, and the nobles are working on figuring out who's spreading their doctrine around." He looks at the locked up red-scaled dragonborn and nods toward him. "Maybe this prisoner will help illumine some of that."
After double checking the lock on the cage door, Bercha starts to head toward the door of the hall indicating that he'd like the Outlanders to follow. "I'm sure Feorac will want to get his family heirloom back as quickly as possible, but I'm sure you'd all like to get cleaned up from the road, and maybe have a hot meal as well. Why don't we all just plan on meeting at the Silver Feather in about an hour? We can meet in Aaris' parlor room so you can hand over the amulet and then I'll divvy out the funds for your reward."
He spins a grand tale on how they recovered the amulet mostly sticking to the truth but embellishing alot. He also tells the tavern owner to charge everything to the Mayor again.
"Gor... Something is wrong. And I'm sure we still have that group from before following us. What do you know about hiding things from magic?" Mills looks after the mayor with the feelings of a man walking into an ambush.
Gor looks at Mills "Agreed there is something not right here. They let the conspirator out and the mayor is very eager. If the item is magical there are spells that can hide magical items from detection but I do not believe any of us have that capability. The only tracking spell I am aware of is an location spell. My understanding is it needs to be within 1,000 feet of the caster...So unless they know we are here....I am unsure how they are tracking the item in question"
Gor looks toward the house for a moment "That is a possibility. If there is something in this backwater town, it would be there. However, wouldn't the Eorl and his lawmen have torn the house apart? No, I think we will have to defend ourselves against anyone who wishes to find the amulet until we find someone who can help in a more.....civilized city"
(OOC: I don't want to stifle creative thinking, but as your DM I do have to offer practical advice. There is ZERO chance that there is anything of any value at all left in the abandoned home of the old widows' circle. That place would have been scoured from top to bottom by the Eorl's soldiers that came to collect Vivi and her co-conspirators. If you're looking for something to protect against divination magic, Hyssop Ridge is the wrong place to look.)

Whats-her-name still in a cell? The widow?
Paladin - warforged - orange
(OOC: Is that a player question for the DM? Or a character question for the Mayor? The cage was empty when Bercha opened it.)
Mills will point at the cage. "Mr Mayor, what happened to yer widow? The one we caught b'fore."

Lucky got a 21 deception.
