Korlan: The woman eyes you as a potential customer as you approach. Conveniently, she even has a step stool below the wagon window for customers of a more diminutive stature. "How may I serve you this fine morning, Lord Halfling?" she calls with a hearty voice. "Judging by your holy garments, there is some deity that already holds your heart. So, no love potions, I think, for you. A ring then, to improve your vision? Or a necklace, to enhance your wisdom?" She spreads some of her wares across the window ledge for you to see. "All fine quality and guaranteed to work!"
Quill continues to research, but some of the supposed 'prophecies' he finds seem unlikely to be helpful in any way. He finds one such just before the noon bell. It reads, "And the Goddess spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Weapon of Antioch towards thou foe, who being naught in my sight, shall snuff it.'"
I quitey cast detect magic on her wares. If she notices I try to explain ,u actions. “Well ma’am, with me being a follower of a goddess, I do not come into a lot of coin. I hope you understand.” I look over her goods, “do you have anything to improve wisdom? I sure could use something like that.”
Quill vaguely remembers some ferocious flumph that killed many warriors, but decides that he's read enough of this for now. He puts away the books and slides his note-taking scroll into his pocket.
Demoiselle, while working hard in the garden all morning, spots two swarms of snakes that she successfully avoids. Just before breaking for noon meal, she also notices Tryma watching them work from a hill above the gardens. Emungo rubs sweat from his eyes, stretches his back, and says, "Whew! You're a hard worker! Let's eat and then take all this to the market."
Korlan: She displays a silver ring with a round white stone and a silver necklace with a pendant that resembles an open eye. "I can offer you either of these two lovelies for the bargain price of 15 gold pieces," she says with a smile. "They'll even look handsome and stylish against your fancy robes!"
The ring gives you a +1 to any wisdom ability checks
The necklace gives you +1 to wisdom saving throws
Edited to add: Both items, as well as several others on the wagon and even the woman have a faint magical aura.
I pull out my coin purse and dump my coins into my hand. I count out 10 gp in my hand. “Well I would love to, unfortunately I only have 10 gold..... but I can fix small items if you have any thing in need of repair. Maybe my services could cover some of the cost....”
Korlan: She looks at your meager fortune skeptically. Shaking her head sadly she says, "At 15 a piece, you don't even offer enough for one. The best I can do is 12 gold for your choice of the two." Then she looks at the sky, judging the time of day. "I'm here until the close of market today. Then I'll be moving on. Let me know if your fortunes improve between now and then." Her gaze rests on the small purse Brother Annan gave you, dangling from your belt, then back at you. A moment later she returns to hawking her wares to the crowd.
Esvaris, Demoiselle, Quill and Emungo all meet up at the rectory for the noon meal. Sister Naphtali has left standing orders to let Korlan and his friends use the meeting room for now. She isn't there, but the common room is still packed with other members of the basilica eating and serving. The food today is a kind of chicken and egg salad. But most of the people in the room are more focused on gossiping about what happened this morning when the initiates were given the blessing during the Dawn service, and on speculation over what will happen at the sunset initiation ceremony. (roll perception DC 14 to hear any other gossip)
Demoiselle and Esvaris: Your keen ears overhear two guards talking again...
The younger guard, voice hushed, says, "They was both yellin' at each other, not even keepin' their voices down."
Older, but just as enticed by juicy gossip, the second guard asks in a surprised voice, "Both Atterley and Dawnlord Menges were yellin?"
"Ezactly! Menges was sayin' he never even saw his sister last night and his old man was callin' him a liar to his very own face! Said he heard it straight from the girl when she crept in last night all stealthy like."
"Goddess! He musta been like to wring her neck when he caught her. Never thought she woulda been the type. And now, you say, she's missin'?" his voice sounded shocked and fascinated at the same time.
"So his Lordship said. He says she didna come down for service this morn and wasn't anywhere to be found. Looked like her room had been tore up, too!"
The older guard whistled low, "Ya think she done a runner? To meet whoever she was off with t'nite before?"
"Dunno. But Lord Atterley sure as sunrise thinks Menges knows more'n he's tellin'."
I feel a pit in my stomach as I hear about this. I feel sorry that the girl I met last night got in trouble. I hope she's okay. I tell Demoiselle about what happened last night in a whisper.

Demoiselle stretched. "Hmmm... Oui, that sounds like a plan."

Quill listens carefully. He's beginning to suspect that Warrel may have had something to do with the night before, but he doesn't say so.
