Before you even look up, you recognize the presence above you. As your eyes adjust from staring into the firelit room, to the dark night above you, a huge shadow seems to block out the stars directly over the doorway. There, crouched on the roof in an almost inverted position with his feet above his head due to the log roof's incline, you see the familiar shape of Friar Bernard. The parts of his face and body that you can see are a bloody mess and his left eye has a flap of skin hanging down just below it. Gripping the roof's edge with his right hand he raises his left from your shoulder and presses one finger to his lips in a 'silence' gesture. Then he points towards the trees near where you entered the clearing. With your elevated senses you can see signs of movement in the bushes and leaves of the trees. There is also a foul odor carried on the breeze.
Korlan (and possibly Quill): Crossbow now cocked and ready, the old man leads you along the somewhat overgrown forest path. The normal noises of the forest seem to have all been stilled and a frightened hush hangs over everything. As you get closer to your destination, Fassil stops, then hunches down a bit, motioning with one hand for you to wait as he creeps forward. Every few steps he pauses, cocking his head to one side to listen carefully. A smell of rotten meat begins to fill your nose and you hear the snap of a fallen branch to your left. As Fassil turns his crossbow in that direction, eyes straining into the darkness of the trees, the bushes shudder. Two long clawed reptilian arms burst out from the leaves, grab the wounded old man, and drag him back into the dark woods. He doesn't even have time to scream. For a brief moment, you catch a glimpse of the beast's face. At first, your mind refuses to register what it saw because that face looked... human.
If something has hurt Friar Bernard like this, it must be very terrifying indeed. I pray to the goddess for help. In doing so, I channel divinity: invoke duplicity. I send my double into the woods ahead of me.

Quill and Korlan rush towards the spot where Fassil was dragged into the trees. Fassil is curled into a protective ball, aged hands covering his head. Stooped over him is a half- transformed beast, black wicked-sharp claws and long gangly lizard arms, green and yellow mottled scales covering it's body and huge hunched back all in terrifying conflict with the last vestiges of humanity apparent in his human face, desperate blue eyes darting from side to side. A black forked tongue slips out between human lips, testing the air as the two clerics approach. It hisses a warning at them. As you all pause for a moment, just over the creature's shoulder a movement catches your eye and a dark figure can be seen standing there, behind the snake man but unnoticed by the beast.
Esvaris: You see your duplicate disappear into the trees ahead of you. As you quickly follow, you hear a voice say, "What was that?" and you smell the foul stink of rotting meat coming from just ahead. The voice sort of sounds like Korlan, but you don't remember the halfling smelling that bad.
Demoiselle: As you rush into the room, the young woman sees you and recognizes you. She throws the door open wide and leaps up, clinging to you with one arm in relief but trying to muffle the sound of her sobs in your shoulder. Her whole body shakes with strain and fear and the baby whimpers over being pressed between you. The small blonde boy, maybe four years old, still clings to his mother's skirt. The woman, her thick blonde braid pulled apart and dirty now, whispers to you, "Please, I beg you. Don't let them kill him. He's still my Geoff. He can be saved. I know it." Raising her head, her eyes search yours in desperation. "Please!"
Noting the desperation in the creature's eyes, Quill puts his hand on Korlan's shoulder.
"Let me try something..." he mutters.
"...You there!" Quill shouts at the creature, remarkably calm, though his hand trembles a bit as it grasps the amulet around his neck.
"There's no need for violence. Why don't we stay calm and talk about this in a civilized manner, without hurting anyone?" Quill asks, voice raised in an unusual tone that suggests magic.

Quill: Tilting its reptilian head one way and then the other it tries to focus on you. Its tongue slithers out again as if it's tasting the magic in the air.
Mental Resistance: Wisdom saving throw with advantage against being charmed 7
The creature shudders as its will is overpowered. Then it steps back, calmly, from Fassil. The old man uncovered his head at your words and the sudden silence ensuing. As soon as it's safe, he pushes himself up as best he can and limps over to grab his crossbow off the ground near the path. Then he turns and aims it at the snake man, just in case. "That's Geoff Weaverson." he says in a cracked voice. Then he coughs and adds in disgust, "Maybe best if we put him down, like a rabid dog. No good to anyone this way."
Korlan: As soon as Fassil says that, you see the same boy from the temple come running forward from where he'd been hiding in the trees. "No!" he yells frantically, causing the man-faced creature to turn and crouch, claws ready in case of danger. "Don't you hurt my Da!" the boy rushes heedlessly to the thing and wraps his arms around it, face pressed against it's scaly yellow chest. It reacts instantly, grabbing the boys' arms with its claws, leaving bloody red tracks in his skin, but the boy holds on... and the monster hesitates. A flicker of awareness flashes in its eyes. Then it looks at Quill, expectantly.
Demoiselle let out a breath. "I cannot promise such, but I will indeed try." She said before gently disentangling herself and moving with alacrity where the action seemed to be occurring.
"We won't hurt you," Quill says, staring pointedly at Fassil. "How did this happen to you?" Quill asks Geoff. His voice is caring, but also conveys obvious curiosity. Almost as an afterthought, Quill adds "and can it be fixed?...You do want to be turned back, right?"
Quill, Korlan, and Esvaris (who can see it through the trees with his darksight), the creature looks like this, but with a human face and green and yellow coloring:
Noticing that the creature does not seem hostile, I walk close to Korlan and Quill with my duplicat. I point to my duplicate, who points back at me, and then I say, "hey guys, look what I can do!"

Quill: The creature seems to struggle to think, and keeps averting its eyes from you in order to stay calm. With it's transformed tongue, it is difficult to form words, but what it attempts to say sounds like, "ool. ahter. oissssson." It has no answer for your question about 'fixing' the problem and seems confused by the concept of 'wanting' anything.
The boy lets go and turns to you with surprise and hope. "Can y'really fix him? Make him my Da again?"

While Quill is distracted by talking to the other two, Fassil is attempting to stealthily raise his crossbow and line up a kill shot. Make a perception check contested by his stealth check: 13

I take out my quarterstaff. Guarded, I investigate the area he is indicating.

Quill gasps.
"The-what-oh, no!" he says all in a rush, then begins rushing after Fassil.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Demoiselle rushes in looking to rescue the mother and her children.
Korlan
I cut a sharp glance at Quill over what I just saw. "What.... what was that?" I will rush after Quill after he takes off into the woods.
