Esvaris: Bernard reaches up a hand so that you can help him up. He is as heavy as he looks. He casts Mending on his bag, then reshoulders it, wincing painfully. Then he claps you on the back gently and says, "Well done." Looking at the others he adds, "all of you."
The woman wakes her husband, who is very confused and doesn't remember what just happened, only that he was very sick and in pain for a long time. She helps him into the house to find clothes and gathers her children. She does not want help setting the house to rights, just privacy for her family.
It's only about tenth bell right now. Friar Bernard looks dead on his feet, which reminds you of Fassil...
After getting Fassil buried in the small cemetery behind the temple, you can all get some sleep. Friar Bernard is the first to pass out. He will look at the upper room in the morning.
I'm completely exhausted. I make up my bed in the common room near Friar Bernard. I will go by the shrine and pray before heading off to bed. I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the bedroll.
The next day Friar Bernard rises early to perform the Dawn Greeting, despite his injuries. Several of the nearby folk travel to the Broken Sun temple to attend since this may be the only service they see for half a year or more. Geoff and his wife do not attend, but their older son, his little smiling face shining with hero worship at the sight of Esvaris, stands right up in the front. His high pitched fervent voice rings out with heartfelt worship during the call and response song. When the service is over, he hurries over to the elf and presses a small, badly carved, wooden sun into Esvaris' hand. Smiling so big his face looks like it may split he says, "When I grow up, I'm going to be a cleric of Usoara and save people, just like you!"
After traveling for much of the day, you all arrive back at the basilica at about 5th bell. Friar Bernard slowed you down a bit since he wasn't feeling entirely recovered from his ordeal the night before. He heads off to find Dawnlord Menges and inform him about the events that occurred.
"I guarantee you, that WITCH has something to do with it!" Dawnlord Menges' voice can be heard shouting as the front door of the Rectory swings open and the rich smell of dinner wafts out towards you. Upon entering, you see that the door to his newly acquired living quarters were left slightly open when Friar Bernard entered. Sister Naphtali is in the common room when you come in. She's handing out plates of food to a couple of clerics who are wisely taking it elsewhere to eat. Otherwise the common room is empty.
From within the Dawnlord's room, a quieter, though no less dangerously angry, voice replies, "That may be, but we have no way of proving it."
Menges scoffs, "Oh, so our father suddenly dies from what is clearly poison and at the same time that CULT locks its doors, refusing admittance to even the Wickham City guard, and that is not proof enough of their evil deeds?" Then his voice takes on an insinuating tone, "Then again, since you seem to be benefitting the most by this new vacancy on the city council, perhaps you should be thanking Kara-Tur for her help, eh, brother? Or should I say, Lord Atterley?" The sound of a hand striking flesh rings out and Sister Naphtali looks toward the door in shock, then heads back to the kitchen. Friar Bernard's voice speaks soothingly, attempting to calm the furious brothers in the Dawnlord's chambers.
Ignoring Bernard's soft words, Atterley hisses at Menges, "I have lost a father, too, and he is not yet buried. Have the decency to save your accusations until after the ceremony." The door to the Dawnlord's chambers flies open and Duke Atterley storms out, eyeing everyone in the common room with distaste before pushing past and out the front door and slamming it behind him.
Quill has been quietly muttering prayers the entire walk back. Now he turns to the others.
"We must tell Dawnlord Wintermoon of what is happening. I think I know a way..."
Without waiting for the others to respond, Quill begins to mutter quietly, hands clasped around his amulet. No one (except Dawnlord Wintermoon, I presume) is able to make out what he is saying.
"Dawnlord Wintermoon, sir! We encountered a man transforming into a yuan-ti creature! I found notes for how to do thus in Dawnlord Menges' room!"

Quill: There is a brief moment of shocked mental silence, then, "Quill?! Bless the goddess! Come quickly! I'm hiding in the closet and she's right outside the door! I'm in the house of Lord..." the spell ends and the rest of his words are cut off.
"Dawnlord Wintermoon is hiding and someone is after him! He's in a Lord's house. But whose?" he asks, failing to keep his voice down as well as he should.

(Dawnlord Menges' perception check: 18) Menges strides to the door and yanks it open, glaring furiously at Quill, Demoiselle, and Esvaris. "What in the nine hells do you think you all are doing?" Then he looks back at Friar Bernard in the room behind him and again at all of you. "Have you no decency? My father has just passed and you are all spying on me and attacking me?" Furiously pointing towards the front door of the rectory he yells, "Get out! And not one of you will step foot at Lord Atterley's death vigil tonight. Do I make myself clear?" Friar Bernard bows respectfully and then slips past Menges. Without looking at the rest of you he heads directly out the front door. (Bernard's perception check: 16) He does not notice Korlan hiding near the building.

On the walk back I speak with each member individually as to not draw too much suspicion from Friar Bernard.
To Esvaris: “once we get back, we need to sneak in on this meeting. I have a plan.”
To Demoiselle and Quill: “we should make ourselves scarce when we get back for the time being. Something unnatural is going on...”
