A stout dwarf walks up to the party just as they arrive. His hair, orange as the heart of a forge, is flowy shoulder-length held back by goggles that are resting on his forehead. Except for two long braids on either side of his face, while his beard hangs down to just above his stomach. He wears a heavy brown longcoat with a fur lined neck as well as a layered metal shoulder pad on his left and a smoother one protecting his right shoulder. Strapped to his back is a pair of pink and purple monarch butterfly wings. Beneath the coat he wears gray scalemail armor and a big belt of pouches and tools.
Finley glances over at the party knowingly, "I heard ye was helpin'.."and then to Jeremy, "Oh, ah, lessee here." He tugs at his beard with a fingerless gloved hand as he thinks briefly, "Starfire, that's a pixie soundin' name, aye?"
The party lands in front of the Pixie Kingdom. A copse of oak trees shelters a miniaturized fairground. At its heart, a hamster runs inside a tiny Ferris wheel, encircled by minuscule wagons and candy stalls. A pixie sits cross-legged in the hollow of a tree at the entrance to this realm.
"Hello, My name is Jeremy Plum as this here is the best attraction at the carnival. I present the Pixie Kingdom. Now for a bit fun how about everyone who is interested create a pixie name."
Val is still trembling a bit from the excitement of the bubble-pop ride. Or maybe she's trembling from the fear caused by the "pop" part of the ride. She looks amused by the tiny fairground, but she says to the other women, "I may skip this 'ride' while I catch my breath from the bubble-pop ride. Flying wasn't quite what I expected. It was certainly exciting! But I didn't realize how frightening it would be to be so high up in the air. I wonder whether that's how baby birds feel the first time they fly!"

He tugs at his beard with a fingerless gloved hand as he thinks briefly, "Starfire, that's a pixie soundin' name, aye?"
Valrieth looks at the dwarf, startled. The little harengon hops back so that she's standing farther away from Finley than Eudith (and/or Pom). She hisses a whisper at her human friends: "Did that dwarf just talk to us?"

"Sorry, sorry! I dinnae meanta startle ya." Finley reaches into a pouch and pulls out a ticket, "Lemme start over, thank ya fer buyin' me this, but why did y'all do tha'? I dinnae tell anybody I were ta be here today."
"Oh dat dwarf talks like a dwarf, he does... hmmm We didn't buy anyone a ticket?" Hisashi says casually to the group, not as hesitant as Val "Cud ya give us a name, not a pixie name?"
She turns to Jeremy "Call me Mudflap the pixie, mhm"

"Oh, aye, I'm Finley 'Starfire' Stoneshaft," he chuckles, before getting serious again, "There was a free ticket for me at th' booth, said my group of lasses were already inside. Was only assuming, hmmm.." Finley strokes his beard as he thinks again. "Dunnae think ah know any of ye.."

This information seems to have surprised the harengon enough that it cuts right through the shyness. "Oh?", she says. "We were also given free tickets, but our benefactor is still a mystery to us! This is definitely a curious situation. Were you also sent to the Witchlight Carnival by Madryck Roslof?"
"No, we just 'appened ta be here today,"Finley says after a moments pause, "Never met a Mr. or Ms. Roslof. But tis strange tha' we've all gotten a free ride 'ere." He glances around the area, looking beyond the party.
"Curiouser and curiouser," the little harengon says dreamily as her eyes seem to unfocus and look right through you. Then she twitches and her focus snaps back to Finley as she says, "Wait. Did you say 'we'?"
At this point a mighty Aarakocra warrior lands next to Finley. He is a magnificent birdman, about 5 feet tall and is bedecked in clearly well worn, but colourful clothes. He white and grey plumage is obviously well cared for and his clothing has been selected to augment his natural stature. He has a sharp looking battleaxe at his belt and is carrying a beautiful shield with an emblem showing a battleaxe with wings on either side. He stretches his wings out in what is clearly meant to be an impressive display, unfortunately the look is somewhat tarnished by the pair of obviously child sized fairy-wings that have been strapped to his head. He looks at Finley and says ‘You have no idea the trouble I had at the gate. At least the wings look good on you.’ Gan-Re then turns to the other members of the team and says with an elaborate bow ‘Greetings good people. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Gan-Re the esteemed companion of the renowned Artificer Finley Stoneshaft. We were on our way to the fair for unique entertainment and experiences, and were charged to deliver this letter.’ With that he passes the letter to Eudith with another bow. As he bows the fairy-wings on his head give a rather undignified flap.
[OOC] I know that @Ben_Evolent suggested that we skip ahead a bit, but I wasn’t sure how to do that. So I’ve put this in as it goes with the flow.

His introduction completed Gan-Re notices Hisashi. While she clearly isn’t an Aarakocra, her wings only enhance the similarity between their races. Having never met a Kobold he decides that an Aarakocra greeting may be appropriate. He extends a taloned hand and says ‘May your hunts be successful and your claws strike true’.

(OOC: No, this is perfect. The DM lets us role play but will also move things along to the next encounter once everyone has a chance to post. I just meant that once initial introductions are done, I'm OK with hand-waving the rest of the integration of Finley and Gan-Re into the party and bringing them up-to-speed on the quest. That's a longer conversation, and we don't necessarily want to do all that back-and-forth here.)
Valrieth thinks that Gan-Re looks quite fierce, and she's not inclined to like him more once he delivers a letter that sends Eudith away. Val cries when she has to say good-bye to Eudith -- something that she didn't do when Abby left -- and she's mostly quiet for a little while after that while the others talk.
But at this point, Val might go on the Pixie Kingdom "ride." Enough time and activity has passed that Val has recovered from their Bubble-Pop ride, but even after she dries her tears, she's still upset about Eudith's departure and not inclined to go on a ride. On the other hand, she also doesn't want to be left alone. If everyone else is going to do the Pixie Kingdom, she will, too. But in that case, she'll change her Pixie name from "Meadow Rue" to "Moonflower".
'Oohh. My first ride' Gan-Re says in excitement. Some of the obviously fake noble mannerisms fall off him as the villager starts to shine through. 'I've never met a pixie before. Finley, what would be a good name? I wouldn't want to offend them.' Gan-Re considers this for a moment and then proudly says 'I know, Sugarbell'. The fairy wings on Gan-Re's head gently flap as if in approval, or maybe it's just a breeze.

“Hmm yes… do I know ya? Dats somethin I’ve heard from folks before. Names Hisashi mhm.”
the Kobold nods as she heads to hand her ticket over to enter the attraction. A curious look on her face as she looks back at the barbarian with a slight nod of approval.
The calliope music changes to a more chipper tune as Jeremy Plum sprinkled pixie dust on everyone and then offers a small vial filled with golden liquid. "Please drink so you can enjoy to the Pixie Kingdom"

“Shall we figur’ out th’ mystery o’ th’ tickets an’ cheer up o’ bit?”
He looks up at Gan-Re after a bit and clears his throat, “Ye need ta come up wit’ a pixie name ta enter this ride ‘ere. If’n we wanna goin.”
Finley holds up his ticket in Jeremy’s direction.
