We need a number of successful skill checks. We can use:
Persuasion: do an inspiring speech, convince factions to put themselves under Dar Gremath's command, to smooth personal rivalries or jealousies, to persuade factions to take on tasks that are dangerous, dirty, hard work, or unpleasant. DC is 12.
History: identify relevant lessons from past wars, apply broad rules of strategies from past conflicts, draw up plans for defences based on stories of past heroic defensive actions. DC11
Intimidate: to project self-confidence and competence, to challenge people to do better, or reassure nervous troops by making light of the Iron Circle threat (but not in an unrealistic way). DC13
Nature or Survival: study potential battlegrounds for advantage, anticipate weather effects, supervise camouflage efforts. DC12.
Religion: lead a prayer session, to give courage to those who are fearful, give people hope that the good gods are on their side. DC10.
So far we have three successful skill checks (Augustin's speech is an automatic success, and seeing as he rolled again and succeeded assuming he's going around talking to the guards and others preparing for war.) :) We do need a lot more successes.
You don't have to do complete the skill challenge tonight, you can do most of it tomorrow.
Let me know what your characters are doing before turning in for the night. It is a couple of hours after sunset at this point. The rain has eased off and the fog has lifted. But it is chilly. People are huddled in their factions, or grouping at the inn. A recent supply of dwarven ale has arrived from Hammerfast, which has been welcome as the Mallard Inn had run out of alcohol. Leaders are in the taproom making sure that no one drinks more than their ration. There are some arguments about this. Some people are saying "we might be dead in the next couple of days! What's the harm?"
If you want to do any more skill checks go ahead and try. Then the party will turn in and have a long rest.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Vakiel will take a seat at the Inn for the most part of the evening, spinning the Asmodeous symbol on the table and share tales of the groups victories. Recounting with particular emphasis on his single strike kills and drawing people’s attention to his scar. And occasionally throw in bits about the “bravery” of the human wrestling with a drake. But ina don’t mess with us way not a cool inspiring way. Going for a confident, intimidating presence

RL will go around and teach some of the folks that are interested in collecting food and resources from nature using his Outlander Background and how to navigate around in terrain without a map to help them find where they are in the chaos of the battle field.

Survival Check 8. Guidance 1
To RL's surprise people are not keen to eat beetles, raw roots, and lichen.
Since RL failed in that skill check he will try to redeem himself by teaching those that might not be up to fighting the skills of how to stabilise someone that is unconscious.

RL cant understand it since they are so nutritious but it confirms what he has always though, These Humans etc are crazy.

Esa will try to think back on what knowledge she has of these lands and their conflicts, trying to gleam any viable information that may help

Medicine check (if allowed) 22. Guidance 1
Update: 5 successes, 1 failure.
RL cant understand it since they are so nutritious but it confirms what he has always though, These Humans etc are crazy.
I'll allow it!
Successes 6, Failure 1.
I think that's enough time spent for tonight.
Time to turn in.
Assuming same sleeping arrangements, although it is getting cold, so do RL and Grimbald still sleep in a tree? The others in rooms in the inn.
Augustin and Esa in one room.
Vakiel in a room on his own.
Happy with that?
Happy to share a room with either/both of the tree sleepers if they decide to come in from the cold
Grimbald is wary of another ambush and will find a tree. careful to not be seen anyone. 19
Grimbald offers to take the midnight watch
RL will take a night time watch as well after grimbald
Esa first watch 8-10pm (so she gets good sleep to prepare spells)
Augustin second watch 10pm-12 midnight
Grimbald third watch midnight to 2am
RL fourth watch 2am to 4am
Vakiel fifth watch 4am to 6am.
All good?
Silence is assent!
Very well.
I need RL to make a perception check. And to tell me where he is doing his shift.
RL will probably do his shift by walking a square between points 3,5,6 & 7 on the map and stopping near 3 to check nothing is crossing the river.

curse this disadvantage from having one eye
You hear stories about an eye that acts as a substitute eye for those who lost theirs. Apparently belonged to some old geezer called Vecna.
