Some of the Iron Circle troops look at each other after hearing Augustin's speech. They've heard about this party of delvers who have taken out everything thrown at them, disrupted their supplies, wiped out units, forged alliances, and even took out the hobgoblin commander and spellcaster.
2 of them decide to quietly vacate the battlefield.
RL will move to the wall to the south of the western building into melee with the 2 iron circle guards and hit the one closest to the building with his glowing green club
Grimbald will use the moment of the fireball flashbang to move, climb and HIDE in the tree closest to the path. 20. or if he gets advantage the higher of these rolls. 20
Augustin would like to go assist our good friend RL and use his sceptre.
Con Save14
Attack: 11 Damage: 7
GWM: On a critical or death 23 Damage: 12
If Possible Augustin would have like to have flanked with RL, however, understands this may be too late, he blames dying 15 times in the last week for his poor battlefield control
I don't think you'd have enough movement to set up flanking, considering you'd have to get over the wall as well which would be difficult terrain for that square. Next round maybe.
Vakiel will just glare at Nazim and during the fireball explosion will move to the tree north of grimbalds attempting to gain some cover, putting the trunk between himself and the 2 main devils.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Turn 1 - Party
Esa opens out the scroll of fireball, which for someone her size is like opening out a huge map. She reads out the power-laden arcane words which disappear off the scroll as she activates them. This is one of the trickiest spells she's tried yet, but manages competently. A small pea sized fiery ball shoots from her finger towards Nazin Redthorn.
The blast of the fireball will get Nazin, the two devils, the warhorse, the Iron Circle rabble holding the horse's reins, and one Iron Circle guard. The two devils seem completely unfazed by the fireball. They are totally unscathed.
Saving throws:
Nazin Redthorn: 15.
Warhorse: 14.
The Iron Circle guard and the Iron Circle Rabble die in the fireball.
Grimbald takes advantage the distraction of the fireball to scurry up the closest tree, hide (he hopes) and cast hunter's mark on devil 1.
Vakiel also moves with Grimbald but goes to a further tree and uses the tree trunk as cover (the trunk isn't thick enough to hide behind).
RL moves to the flanking enemy and bloodies one of the Iron Circle guards with one strike of his glowy staff.
Augustin moves with RL and strikes at the other Iron Circle guard but the guard blocks with his shield.
The warhorse collapses to the ground, engulfed in flame. A nearby vege patch is ablaze but already is being put out by the rain. Nazin Redthorn throws his armoured arm over his face and screams with pain and rage as his skin burns from the fireball. He grits his teeth and drops his visor and makes a gesture. One of the devils grunts, and you see some of Nazin Redthorn's burns heal. Then Nazin moves towards the closest target - Vakiel.
"I see your friends have left you to face my wrath, Vakiel. I will grant you a quick death," he says, "as thanks for your prior service to the Iron Circle. But your destiny, or whatever you thought you had, ends today."
The Iron Circle Commander moves to Vakiel's location but has to take the dash action and so does nothing else. He is within melee range of Vakiel.
One of the armoured devils comes to assist his commander.
Merregon devil 1 gets 3 halberd attacks, but Vakiel can use the tree trunk to give three-quarters cover (+5 on AC):
Halberd attack 1: Attack: 23 Damage: 6:
Halberd attack 2: Attack: 13Damage: 10.
Halberd attack 3: Attack: 11 Damage: 8.
The other armoured devil scans the trees, looking for the dwarf that seemed to have disappeared. It has a heavy crossbow in hand:
Merregon devil 2 perception check: 11(needs a 20 to spot Grimbald).
Iron Circle Guard:
After hearing Augustin's speech and seeing the effects of the fireball, one of the Iron Circle Guard near the building to the north slips off quietly.
The Iron Circle Guard hit by RL decides to flee also. He takes the disengage action and runs off into the rain.
Iron Circle Guard 6 tries to attack Augustin with his spear: Attack: 18 Damage: 4.
The other two remaining Iron Circle guards start to move down to the road - but are beset by the black hounds summoned by the Hunter's Horn.
Amendment: Steve reminded me in chat that he activated his Hunter's Horn and the hounds appear within 60ft of him and he directs them to take out those outer groups.
Six black hounds appear with green glowing eyes and green flames coming from their mouths. Those that saw the Altar in the undercroft of Marl remember the images of hounds with what they thought were strange tongues, now realising this is what was depicted.
They attack the Iron Circle Guards.
One black hound drags down fleeing Iron Circle Guard 5 and drags him down, screaming before clamping his jaws on his throat.
One black hound attacks the Iron Circle Guard fighting Augustin and RL: Attack: 17 Damage: 9.
Four black hounds attack the remaining two Iron Circle Guards who were trying to get to the road.
Vakiel will move 2 squares north, seeing his life flash before his eyes, raging and swing at Nazin
Attack: 9 Damage: 11
plus divine fury (radiant) 7
plus invoke Disheartening Strike. When you hit a creature with an attack using this weapon, you can fill the target with unsettling dread: the target has disadvantage on the next saving throw it makes before the end of your next turn. The creature ignores this effect if it’s immune to the frightened condition. Once you use this property, you can’t do so again until the next dusk.
