Archie having returned to the group to overhear the back and forth puts her hand calmingly on Reya's shoulder at the mention of Kreeg, almost without thinking.
She lets the group figure out what is going on and how best to progress, but her mind wanders to the contract they discovered within the box, could these citizens be subject to the oath of Kreeg, or are they merely bartering chips, unfortunate souls who became embroiled in this situation because the companion shone upon them. She looks upward, trying to see if the companion is still around.
Roo does what Roo does. With the Owl's Talon, he sets about debearding their fallen foes, and comes strutting over with a handful of spiked beards when he is done, doing his best to puff out his armor-adorned chest. He does, however, catch the end of the comment about Kreeg, and starts to open his mouth. However, he realizes his allies aren't correcting this for some reason. Maybe there is a better time and place?
"You mean there are more of these things? Hmm. Buck. I may have to get creative with what to do with all these beards. Maybe blankets! There used to be these humans we sometimes interacted with! Ah, but sometimes, they hunted us too... Hmm. But! Buck! They had these big wide hats and were always selling blankets! Maybe we could sell blankets! We mighty Gallus have no need for blankets, but you featherless with your weak constitutions seem to get cold when you sleep!"
Not for the first time, Corlith's gaze lands on the High Hall in the distance.
"Why did you all not try and make for there? If that is where your leaders are, surely going there would be your best option", he asks the woman, not in accusatory way, but trying to understand the barrier to getting there.
When Kreeg is mentioned, he frowns.
"Reed is right, we need to work with what we have. We are here to help, so let's see what we can achieve".
Reya turns to Archie at her touch and smiles. She relaxes a bit from it, but Archie can feel the tension.
Harkina literally gapes at Roo as he takes the beards and starts talking about making a blanket out of them. She slowly places herself between the rooster and her children and keeps an eye on him and she responds to Reed and Corlith.
"Why not? Cause this place is riddled with devils and the like! Crumbling buildings, fires... it's no picnic out here! We didn't know why this happened or if it was somehow going to right itself and we'd be back home? Oh I don't know!" You can see she is on the verge of tears. "Wait.. you'll escort us? Really? Yes, let's find our way across!"
Even if they're bigger, they're still the little people getting put under the boot of someone stronger and greedier, Reed thinks to himself. He hadn't really connected with this mission to hell until now.
"Greedy people and devils," Reed says. "They did this. And there's only one way to deal with them."
Reed nods over at Roo.
"He wouldn't harm you or your children. He's probably the most noble of all of us."
He gestures down the street the woman had been running with her children.
"That makes sense", Corlith replies to Harkina. "Well, you have us now. We can help each other. If you know the way across, you can show us, and we can help keep you safe", he adds, nodding along to Archie's sentiment of not leaving anyone behind.
As the conversation has been going on, Virro has been listening, but moreso focused on looking at this Companion of Elturel. The dark eye in the sky. “We have to figure out how to raise the city back up. And I bet that it has a lot to do with that thing…” he says to himself. Then he turns and considers the situation, Harkina and her children. “Yes, yes, safety in numbers, absolutely. Let’s gather them and head to the High Hall. If we can find that crossing…”. Virro readies himself, but if the conversation lapses for a moment, he glances back up at the Companion, considering.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
The kids peak out from behind their mother, and one murmurs, "A noble chicken? Really? How cool..." his eyes as big as saucers.
Harkina nods, "Yes, this way. And no, we have seen people come and go, as we've been out, but just us in the basement." she starts leading the party West.
The Companion is still in the sky, sending lightning this way and that. As the cracks light up the sky, the condition of Elturel is very apparent. The depressing situation of the buildings and pot holes and cracks in the road surround the party. The sulfur from the fires hang heavy in the air as you all start trudging west, towards the fortress beyond the ridge.
As you all head down the broken down street, you catch a glimpse of four cloaked figures sneaking out of an alleyway and into a home nearby. Just beyond you see large rift between the two sides of the city.
Corlith follows along after Harkina, surveying the scene of destruction that Elturel has become. The fire and smell of sulphur hanging in the air are not so inhosptiable to him, due to his Tiefling heritage, which shouldn't come as a surprise to him, and yet it does a bit.
When he sees the four cloaked figures, he tries to determine whether they are residents of there city, or residents of the hell it has sunk into.
Archie's flame flickers slightly and she throws her arms out in a T pose to steady herself before muttering, "ohh I just got dizzy for a second...". After regaining composure, she pulls out her light hammer and a hand axe, then gives Reed a nod. Looking to Reya to hopefully guard Harkina and the kids.
"Chicken!?" Roo says, absolutely incredulous at the tiny featherless who has insulted him. "Chicken!? I will have you know that I am a Gallus! We are a noble people! I have come all this way with my friends to free you and yours from the perils of Avernus and you dare throw a racial insult at me? How dare you! Buck!"
He stops when his attention is directed at cloaked fiends.
"Aaah...shall we do this then? Buck?"
And somehow he and his clanking armor and shiny breastplate kinda slip into stealth mode as he crowds into the darkness near a building...
Virro kneels down, slowly advances behind Reed, readying his shield. He looks for a point of weakness, deciding how he will attack. His shield touches up against his armor, just for a moment, then he continues on, waiting for a chance to strike.

The child's eyes grow even larger as Roo admonishes him and he shrinks back behind his mother. "Noble? Well, he certainly doesn't know how to treat children. How was he supposed to know that was some kind of racial slur?"Harkina clips at Roo, anger towards the Gallus very apparent.
Reya nods back at Archie, the silent exchange understood that she would stay here and watch over their charges as the rest head in to take care of whatever those creatures were.
Those watching Lulu could see that she had been 'talking' with Corlith, but she smiles warmly at the tieflings assistance with Archie. Suddenly her eyes go big as though something just occurred to her, but then she sees the situation as the others gather round the entrance to the home. She shakes her head and joins in behind the group.
Before Virro and Corlith alert the cloaked figures to your presence, the stench hits you first. The creatures reek of death and decay. The hoods now down, you see four ghasts standing around a table eating the remains of a human family that perished here during the trip to Avernus. They slowly turn to you, pieces of flesh clinging to their maws.
Things go to hell fast. Well, no. They were already in hell. Things went hellier. Roo moves fast, going past Reed and trying to find a place to get against a wall. He moves into the corner next to Ghast A, where the barrel is, striking at A with his shortsword and trying to make room for everyone else.

Reed smiles at the extra info and nods his thanks to the woman.
"I think it best if the people here rely on themselves and no wait for Kreeg to save the day," Reed says.
He looks around at the roadway the woman was headed along.
"Show us the way across whatever rift is here and we'll escort you to the hall."

"They definitely had the gait of fiends", Corlith says pointing at where the cloaked figures went. "Shall we hunt the hunters?".
Reed looks at where the cloaked figures went.
”Maybe we could catch one and get some information out of them.” Reed suggests.
He wraps his cloak around himself and slinks up to the building the four fiends went in to see if he can spot them.
Just as he gets to the building he feels the building pressure of a sneeze coming on but then it luckily passes.
