((This party has never been defined by its good skill rolls.....))
As a whole, the group collects itself and carefully follows the skull-headed suit of armor down the western passage towards the rhythmic metal ringing sound. It's not long before the rough mining tunnel opens into a warm fire-lit room. It appears you've entered into a forge of some sort. Old weapon racks along the walls and various stands still hold some rusty implements. To your left, a large chest sits beside a worn passage to the south. To your right, a small stone raised pool of clear water sits undisturbed by the wall. In the center of the room there is a large table with what look to be the remains of the suit of armor that Mirabel destroyed previously haphazardly laid out on it. There is also a freshly made large metal plate leaning against the wall by a pair of double doors that exit northward, presumably back to the main chamber with the gigantic black stone.
The suit of armor marches into the room undeterred and goes up next to a large man who seems crouched in-front of the forge fire along the southern wall and offers him the food it received from Mub. His back is to you, but you can make out some basic information about him. He is clearly a Goliath of some sort, though not as muscled or toned as your previous monk companion was. He wears a rams-horn helmet that covers the upper parts of his head. In the forge-light you see that patches of his skin seem to have either a kind of rash or boil.
As the suit of armor offers him food, he waves it away with a huff. "No I don't need anymore food! One of you brought me the minnows hours ago.....and where did you even find trail rations anyway? I thought I told you lot no more stealing stuff from the locals?" He then motions behind him towards the group. "And you bone-heads back there! Take that metal plate and hang it with the others.....and please, for once, try to stay clear of the discharges from the stone. Another one of you rock-brains got tele-blitorated today and I still haven't figured out how to put you back together yet."
It seems you were not stealthy enough to have gone unnoticed. However, the mysterious individual seems to have mistaken you for more of the skull-headed suits of armor that roam these halls.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Kathra goes over to pick up the long heavy sheet of metal by herself. Unfortunately, it's somewhat awkward due to its size and shape for one person to handle. She makes it a few feet before losing control of the object and it crashes to the floor, making a heck of a racket.
"By Orlug, you rock-brains are the worst helpers sometim........" The figure trails off as he turns around and fully takes in the scene with Kathra over by the fallen sheet of metal and the rest of you over by the eastern exit. He blinks a few times, as if maybe not believing that you are all really there before rushing over to the work table and scattering its contents over the floor and grabbing a four-ish foot metal ring from the mess, holding it in front of him defensively. "Bandits! Interlopers! If you've come for treasure I haven't much. The old sapphire mines have played out decades ago!"
Briefly focusing on Peren, while still trying to keep the rest of you in sight, the goliath replies. "I am Korm, a student here to study this tomb. And I didn't make these animated workers. They were here already.....not that it's any business of yours bandit!"
“I have been called many things...Korm is it? But never a bandit. We are investigating what is causing the strange happenings here. From the looks of it, the only evil in this place is being caused by you. Why do you have golems creating a necro-death cube or whatever that thing is out there, or do we just have to assume the worst” says Gavin as he holds his crystal sword at the ready while taking a step towards the Goliath
Korm's brow furrows a bit at Gavin's questions. "Necro....death...cube? You mean that lost Seree spell engine out there?" He motions towards the large double doors to the main room beyond. "I'm not creating it....nobody could in this age. I'm just trying to keep its powers contained so I can study it in peace. The vault servants were already here doing their pointless tasks when I arrived. I just gave them a little direction is all.......Now who are you people if not bandits here to steal what treasures you may find?"
((You'll note he does not put down the large metal ring.))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“Do you even understand what that thing does and the effect it has on the countryside? We are the Band of the Hand, you may have heard of us. We are here to find out what is causing all the disturbances that have been plaguing the local countryside and the nearby town. I asked you once nicely to put down your weapon so we can speak as friends instead of enemies, please don’t continue to threaten us by brandishing whatever that is. Tell us more about this spell engine”
Gavin lowers his sword and takes a step back as a gesture of first steps
At Gavin's persuasions, Korm seems to settle a bit, lowering the large metal ring to rest on the ground beside him. "So you're not here to steal my research then? That's a relief." He sighs a bit, giving one of his rashy boils a scratch. "What sorts of disturbances are we talking about here? I'm sure much of it is in relation to the spell engine, it attracts all sorts of weirdness....as overcharged as it seems to be." At that, another loud "BBBBBZZZZZZZZZZT" echoes through the caverns.
Peren will ask Korm who do you work for and how did you find out about this spell engine? The disturbances just started Recently, so it has not always been here, or if it has it was dormant until recently.
Korm gives a heavy sigh, like someone who is about to go into a somewhat practiced spiel. "Again, my name is Korm the Adept. I was a student of a great wizard who was an avid researcher of ancient lost magics like those of the Seree. I came to this land because the local population seemed to have been influenced by Seree ministrations in the past. I was lucky to find that the recent storms had washed away a bit of hill that had covered a fallen tower that lead me to the stone hidden deep within. I've been here for the last few months studying the writings of the Seree and their spell engine."
What have you learned so far, it the spell engine's power safe, can it be harnessed and be used for good
Peren will ask Mirabel "what do you think about this spell engine?" ((I have some knowledge of spells from being an arcane trickster, but Mirabel is more of an expert on these things))
"Hey now, before we get too far along in this 'interrogation' you've got some questions to answer for as well!" Korm snorts at Peren while scratching at another rashy boil. "I've never heard of no 'Band of the Hand' before. Who are you people and what business do you have poking around my research site? What odd occurrences have those dwarves in Rockmount so incensed that they would send adventurers up here to be bothersome?"

Gavin will trail at a short distance behind Kathra and Peren trying to quiet his armor best he can so he is closer if anything goes south
Stealth 2
((Ruh roh))
((Did we lose Mirabel?))
((Did Mirabel get transported into the stone, like Jemma from Marvels agents of shield))
((Maybe? I'll send him a message. If he or Mub doesn't post by later tonight, I'll move us along.))
((LOL, everyone seems busier in the summer, I have not been able to post as much as last time either))
((I'm here!))
Mirabel is highly trained in stealth, probably.

Kathra shrugs and starts moving the plate over to where the goliath indicated.
It's probably heavy, so, Athletics: 19
((Lord))
((I know I'm all about "failing forward" around here, but sheesh....you folks are really putting that policy to work!))

Peren will assist Kathra
Athletics = 21
Oops, i guess Kathra does not need assistance now. Peren gets there too late and she drops the plate
Peren will look over at the figure and says who are you and why are you animating these suits of armor
Briefly focusing on Peren, while still trying to keep the rest of you in sight, the goliath replies. "I am Korm, a student here to study this tomb. And I didn't make these animated workers. They were here already.....not that it's any business of yours bandit!"
