"Not yet, it might be a prank gone wrong, but hopefully we will find out and make sure something like this won't happen again." Malvyn says with a polite smile as he is about to leave.
Mei too gathers her things, giving everyone her gratitude for speaking with them and wishing them all much rest and recovery. When the others leave, she’ll follow in tow, pausing to look back at the kitchen then hurrying along to catch up.
Guardok had reluctantly missed out on the trip to the Bow's End Tavern to question the cooks, having agreed to running lines with Rubina, Quentillius and some others from the Playactor's Guild.
The fact that the creatures that had been summoned were elementals, that claimed they had been disturbed did not sit right with him. But he doubted the cooks had any knowledge of such things anyway.
Was however eager to hear all about it when they all returned to Dresar Hall.
Guardok finds Malvyn in the fourth floor lounge, contemplating what they found out at the inquiry at the Bow's End tavern, which he excitedly shares with his genasi friend. "Not many helpful observations, but one perhaps, a silverquill student with long silvery hair was seen in the kitchen before the incident. The prankster could have been in disguise of course and it dooesn't add up with the bullywug tracks we found earlier but it is something to follow up on at least."The purple-skinned tiefling explains. "Hopefully Professor Lang can shed some more light on the oily black substance, and I collected some more from the cauldrons, possibly it has been modified to create a new effect."
"Ok, well a lead is good, right?", Guardok replies to Mal. "I mean, better than nothing, even if it was a disguise".
He thinks for a moment, "Perhaps there is a way to know if it was a disguise. Long silvery hair is likely to shed, right?". He runs his hand over his smooth head, not having first hand knowledge of hair, but having found much in the communal bathrooms he assumes he is right.
"Of course, it means going back to the tavern to search", he adds with a shrug.
The purple-skinned tiefling gives his genasi friend a curious look, not quite following. "Are you saying we should go back and look for long silvery hairs at the tavern? I'm happy to follow up on any lines of inquiry but although not common there must be others with long silvery hair visiting the tavern right? And what would we do with the hair? There is perhaps some magic we could use to identify whose hair it was. But if we don't find any silvery hair there it can't be seen as conlusive evidence that it was in fact a disguise though right?"Malvyn goes on. He is a bit doubtful but at the same time excited over trying to find new lines of inquiry.
Guardok shrugs, "It's not a perfect plan. But if we find long silver hair in the kitchen, where the person was seen, we know they weren't in disguise. If we get lucky, we go from the one behind it looking like anything, to having a description. And if we don't get lucky, we are no worse off, besides a trip to the tavern".
"Like I said, it's not perfect. I am not as good as sleuthing as you others".
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Well, it could in theory still be a hair from another silver-haired person, but considering how few of those there are after all finding one would at least take us to almost certainty that it was not a disguise. I think you just showed to be a good sleuth Guardok." The purple-skinned tiefling says with an encouraging smile. "We could go over there right away to check." He suggests with clear enthusiasm in his fiery red eyes. "Is there any kind of spell that could help out with this Mei? Maybe it is about time someone researched a long-silvery-hair-detection spell." He adds with a grin.
Rolls for finding a silvery hair Perception: 12 Investigation: 13
"Thanks, Mal", Guardok says blushing. During any search, which he is quite happy to undertake straight away if they are allowed, he will inspire his floor mate.
(OOC: Bardic Inspiration for Mal, for both rolls if that is ok. +1d6 to each)
(OOC: Yes, Guardok and Mal went back to Bow's End Tavern and wanted to check the kitchen area around where the blonde haired person was seen. Not the whole tavern)
The pair returns to the tavern which is just getting opened. It takes a moment, but you spot Javenish at the waiters station towards the middle of the place. It's fairly empty at this early hour, so he stops to talk. "What brings you back?"
With a quick expanding about the hair, he leads you two back into the kitchen. Despite the quiet atmosphere of the tavern, the kitchen is full of activity. Curtie is bathing out instructions to the various students who are in some cases literally running to keep up.
A thorough investigating of the area, especially focusing in the cauldrons, dies not turn up any hair. not really much of anything. The place seems thoroughly cleaned after the events the previous evening.
"I know it doesn't prove anything either way, but I still think it was worth a try, thanks for coming along with me", Guardok says to Mal as they head back to Dresar Hall again.
"I wonder why no-one else is looking into all this. They are happy for a bunch of first years to take the lead. Doesn't that seem odd to you?".
"Yes, I agree."The purple-skinned tiefling says with a nod. "You would think that the professors would be concerned now that there have been at least three incidents in a short time that all have been quite dangerous, quite nearly lethal. And I sincerely doubt these are simply pranks. I suppose we can't rule out that the professors are actually conducting some sort of investigation into this but that they don't want to share that with the students to not cause concern." He continues with a shrug. "I'm glad you too are interested in investigating this Guardok and I agree, it was a good idea coming here again, I like being thorough." He adds with an appreciative smile. "Let's hope Professor Lang has something for us."
The two return to Dresar Hall for the evening, joining the other roommates. Activities continue as normal for the next couple of days - work, classes, extracurricular activities. Finally, Friday arrives and your previously set meeting to speak with Professor Lang. You have a little bit of time following your class for the group to get together then head out for the Witherbloom campus to meet Professor Lang at her office.
(OOC - Sorry, I've been a bit light on posting things this week. I intend to follow up soon about activities for various characters. Hopefully I can get that caught up this weekend.)
Guardok has a bounce in his step as they make their way to Witherbloom.
"Finally, we might get some proper answers", he says to the others. It had been a frustrating wait for the earth genasi, who perhaps didn't have as much patience as the rest of the group.
"Well, let's hope so, it could be quite helpful to know something more about that black oily substance, any information about it could give us a new line of inquiry."The purple-skinned tiefling says, walking alongside his shorter friend, tail swaying with excitement. "Considering there will possibly be owlbears next it seems our prankster is upping their game and we would do well being as prepared as possible."He continues, glancing over at the petite oracle. "Maybe we should read up on owlbears?"
Mei, nose stuck in a book as she tries to catch up on the lessons she's missed, runs into the back of whoever is walking ahead of her. "Ah, sorry! I--yes! We should read up on them! Unless it was a--" she taps the feather of her quill against her chin, "--symbolic owl bear? Or at least I hope so... owlbears are quite fearsome."
