(Bryony may still use her previously readied action to make a ranged attack with her dagger as it retreated.)
Syzygy sprints to the near end of the northern bridge and gives it a quick look-over. It looks stable, as far as he can tell from a hasty glance.
Jurgen races right behind him, firing at the strange one-eyed creature as it tries to hide behind the stone column (half-cover.) Even with the partial cover, Jurgen's bolt narrowly hits it, sinking deep into its scaly shoulder. Everyone can hear the high-pitched telepathic screaming in each of your heads.
...What has that little lizard done to me?... ....I will let them pass if they feed me!... Poor Ssarnak is just hungry!...
Quinn, Kimberly (short 10' of movement and a free action), and Bryony may then act. (The creature is fully covered and not visible to them currently.)
After she hears the creature's voice in her mind, Bryony decides not to throw her dagger as it runs away from them. Instead, she will approach the creature slowly and carefully, getting as close as she can.
"Wait!" she calls to the others. "He's just hungry."
If she can get close enough, she will take one of her rations and throw it toward the creature.
Bryony advances next to Jurgen, where she can lay eyes on the strange creature again. She tosses her ration toward it.
It looks at the package of dried, salted food and recoils.
...Not food. ...Food is living, wriggling, crying, bleeding... Bring poor Ssarnak proper food and you may pass freely through Ssarnak's home!... ....A tender little one, perhaps... soft and juicy and wriggly...
Kimberly (short 10' of movement and a free action) and Quinn may act next.
Bryony frowns at the creature. Now that she can see it better, it really is rather monstrous looking with its one big eye taking up most of its face. She remembers the horrible feeling of something dying inside her and knows that she should hate this thing, should want to get revenge, but all she feels now is pity. Although that could easily change if it turns out the creature has been hurting people from Phandalin.
"If you let us pass, we can bring you food you'd like better," she says, imagining snaring a rabbit or other small animal to satiate the creature's appetite.
...Ssarnak doesn't leave home much.... ...Ssarnak visits no villages... ....Ssarnak distrusts interlopers... ...Ssarnak wants food first before letting anyone pass... Ssarnak so hungry...
Quinn sheathed his axe and has been walking slowly to close the gap, being sure to keep his distance in case this thing attacks his mind. He keeps his hands open, and empty, trying not to alarm this thing. He wonders if he can communicate with this thing with his thoughts.
He thinks to himself "Ssarnak, can you hear my thoughts? You say you distrust interlopers, why is that so? Who has invaded your home and caused you to distrust people?"
IF the one eyed monstrosity doesn't reply, Quinn will repeat himself aloud so everyone can hear.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As he telepathically questions the creature, Quinn moves forward, passing Jurgen and Bryony and stopping behind Syzygy
...Interlopers like you... keep Ssarnak fed. They lie, like you. ...But Ssarnak doesn't like the little lizard's sharp little sticks. ...Ssarnak is prepared to bargain... ...but bargains require trust. ...Bring Ssarnak meat. ...Live warm wriggly meat is best, but fresh dead meat is good, too... ...Bring Ssarnak real meat and Ssarnak will let you pass freely...
The creature steps further around the pillar. (It has 3/4 cover from everyone except Kimberly, from whom it has half-cover.)
(Quinn: You feel more than just words and ideas in your head, but a mental probe poking around in your mind and thoughts. Make a DC11 Deception check to push it away.)
Quinn closes his eyes and winces. He feels someone, or something, probing the depths of his mind. With his eyes closed, he turns to Jurgen with a request.
"Friend, put your crossbow down. Back away, and give them space. I'll explain later."
He turns and looks towards Ssarnak and says.
"Ssarnak, you speak of trust. But trust goes both ways. We are not here to harm you. You attacked us, we merely defended ourselves.
I'll bring you food in exchange for safe passage, but do not attack me or my friends."
Quinn turns to the group and motions towards the exit.
"Let's get outta here and find Ssarnak something to eat. I think I have a deal with them."

A little Surprised, disappointed, frustrated? Syzygy trusts Quinn’s judgement and backs away from the bridge. “Odd that no one has mentioned such a creature.”
Kimberley peers down the hall behind her. It leads to a short stairway leading down. She can see a closed door to the south and a hallway leading north.
Quinn pushes the intrusive probe out of his head.
Food... Food... Yes, feed hungry Ssarnak and then Ssarnak will grant you passage...
Just then, you hear voices and footsteps. In some sort of storeroom to the north, you see three Redbrands appear from the east – a male human and a female human carrying shortswords, and a blue-haired, blue-skinned male humanoid with a crossbow. All three wear filthy red cloaks. They look up with surprise and alarm.
"Not a test!" Not a test!" shrieks the first goon, pointing south. "Shoot! Shoot! Trespassers!" He hisses something to the other goon. "Shoot! Shoot!"
Top of the round! Quinn, Kimberly, and Bryony may act. Redbrand goon initiative: 3

Loathe to use her blessings so early but knowing they must deal with the bandits quickly Kimberley sighs and lets a blast of moonlight shoot across the cavern at the furthest bandit.
Jurgen will rush forward 30' to get a shot at the creature with his Crossbow.

Kimberley waited to see if Bryonys plan worked, she was here for bandits not....whatever that was.

Kimberley grimaced, " It doesn't like it?"
Her eyes narrowed, " Maybe we should go get you something else. How about a nice fresh baby? I'm sure theres one back in the village spare."
Syzygy side eyes Kimberley as if to say ‘really, jokes, now?’.
Jurgen's draw drops at the Kimberly's comment.
Turning back to the humanoid, "Have you eaten any people from the village?"
