Xymox: “Everyone freeze. I’d rather not join Sir Chadwick in his performance as ‘Doorframe Décor.’ Let me see what song these skulls sing before anyone else rushes headlong. This thing’s warded six ways to supper. We’ll need magic to mute it—or a door that doesn’t scream back. Wizard, warlock, either of you care to lend a spell? Dispel magic? Silence? My arcane knowledge is admittedly limited." Xymox shrugs, then looks at Chadwick with a bit of concern.
Kragen reacts reflexively upon seeing Chadwick clearly in distress, readying to bolt into the room. Then pauses when hearing both Xymox and Trolkarl respond to the current situation. Clears his head and then quickly assesses the best way to address Chadwick's condition without exposing others or himself to it.
Arcana check (observing Chadwick's reaction without knowledge of the affliction, potential spells that may address his visible symptoms. i.e. screaming silently in agony)
Kragen observes Chadwick and sees no obvious effects in progress.
Just to clarify this post, Kragen sees that Chadwick has recovered from his affliction, i.e. his actions seem back to normal (not in a ball on the floor writhing in pain?)?

The ceiling of the room comes to life above Chadwick. A humanoid looking figure made of branches and withered leaves lunges out from above to strike at Chadwick. There are figures all about him and Chadwick that appear to be the same, or other branches of the trees lashing out at both Chadwick and Starker. INT saves: Chadwick = 8, Starker = 17. Chadwick subject to Pack Tactics giving the creature advantage on attacks. It lashes out with taloned claws, attempting to rend Chadwick. To hit: (18,10) +7 = 25 for 14 psychic damage.
Does Chadwick get a reactive attack for the creature entering his range?
Reactive strike-While you’re holding a Quarterstaff, a Spear, or a weapon that has the Heavy and Reach properties, you can take a Reaction to make one melee attack against a creature that enters the reach you have with that weapon.
Since it was a physical attack can he use the halberd feature?
Thunderous Rebuke: When a creature within 10 feet of you hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to release a thunderous shockwave. The attacker takes 1d8 thunder damage and must make a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of once), regaining all expended uses after a long rest.
If yes to one or the other, can he use;
Storm’s Bite: When you hit a creature with this halberd, you can channel storm energy into the strike. Once per turn, you deal an additional 1d6 lightning damage.
Xymox enters the room when hearing the exclamations from Starker and Chadwick about being attacked. He fires both crossbows, to hit = 27 (nat 20) for 5 piercing damage and to hit = 22 for 4 piercing damage. The bolts seem to have a reduced effect against the creature of vines, branches and withered leaves attacking Chadwick.

/OOC
Here is a suggestion:
- Get the niche door to the gems open again.
- Return all gems. (Hopefully, this will reset everything.)
- Take an emerald and use if for the "green room."
There is a very high probability that I'm not understanding the puzzle/process correctly. I'm very open to other suggestions.

I was fine with the approach Trolkarl suggested.
Make it so!
Kragen observes Chadwick and sees no obvious effects in progress.

Chadwick is back to normal
Kragen calls into the room “sir Chadwick, do you need assistance?”
”should we attempt Trolkarls approach to addressing the trap on that door?”
Starker:”This is fascinating. Let me examine the door whilst not touching it. This will take a few minutes.”
<Moves into room by door frame o skully faces. Ritual Detect Magic on Chadwick-hurtin door frame, combined with arcana and investigation attempts

Chadwick takes a knee, pulling out his holy symbol and saying a prayer to Tyr a word of thanks to Lady Caellia.
He shakes the water out of his hair and slicks it back before putting his helmet back on.
"That was thoroughly unpleasant. I will need to visit Lady Caellia when I return to offer my thanks in person."
He still seems a bit shaken.
"Can we tell if the ward has been dispelled, or could it strike again?"
Chadwick looks over the walls and see if he can detect any movement.

He does not. This creature has special abilities, namely camouflage so you did not see its approach. This prevents reactions when employed.
/ooc I can't see the map, but have Xymox keep distance and fire hand crossbow x2. (Please roll). Bonus action: bardic inspiration on Chadwick.

Move: 25' east
Action: Magic- cast Eldritch Blast
Trolkarl’s second bolt strikes the creature with full effect.
Chadwick to act.
What about Thunderous Rebuke? It's a property of the weapon and not a reaction.
It requires a reaction to use that ability.
