Just as the strange, muted silence and unsettling stillness has enveloped you, a tiny field mouse darts between your feet, vanishing amidst the swaying crops. In that brief moment, it's as though the weird sensation has been nothing more than a fleeting figment of your collective imagination. The world around you returns to normal, and you feel free to continue your explorations.

Wulcrath clutches at his tattered cloak a bit as the intense silence falls, letting out a little sigh as the tension in the air falls seems to fall away. "A-are we just not gonna talk about...? W-whatever." He mutters with a bit of a scowl on his face for a moment. He perks up a bit at Preston's question. "Right... She's in the Farmhouse, we'd managed to find something in there but i couldn't figure out what before we rushed out here to help you deal with those Rats. I'll go retrieve her." The Dragonborn says to Preston as he turns and heads to go get the Constable.
And, it should be a good chance to investigate what she apparently found... "I'll Be back in a second unless anyone wants to come with?"

Wulcrath nods at Preston as he starts on his way, turning back towards the farmhouse. "Right." Now that he thinks about it, the Constable hadn't joined them outside herself yet...

Dracor enters the barn. His first impression is that it is mostly dark inside, but the partially open doors allow him to see that it is cluttered with various farming tools, crates and sacks of grain, some of which are torn apart from the rats. In the back of the barn, there appear to be some casks and some hay stacks. The floor is covered with hay, grain and rat droppings. The dragonborn can also see small burrowed tunnels. In the far corner of the barn, there is a wooden table.
When Wulcrath and Preston turn the corner of the farmhouse, they both notice that the front door is wide open... and there are two legs protruding from inside. A few more steps will reveal that Constable Alena is lying face down on the ground.

Dracor would immediately summon four glowing dancing lights, sending them out around the room. he would move around the barn, looking around the bags and upon seeing the crates, would try to find a crowbar nearby before trying to open them if he can find one. Otherwise, he would send the glowing orbs down into the tunnels and look down into the holes... looking for any clues or items maybe stashed inside...

Upon seeing the Constable lying on the ground, Preston is shocked. What could have happened to her? The young soldier goes to her side with haste. He turns the woman on her back and inspects her for any wounds. If she’s unconscious, he would try to gently shake her awake.
"Constable Alena! Can your hear me? What happened?", he asks, trying to call out to her.
Wulcrath's heart falls into his boots as he sees the constable on the floor, though he manages to keep himself mostly calm. He follows Preston her side, crouching down and taking a cursory look before sighing. What could have happened in the few moments they were gone? "Constable... Ma'am?" He lets out a sigh as he holds his breath, hoping that Alena is alright.
The tunnels don't appear to have anything in them besides hay, rat fur and other signs of rat habitation. But as Dracor gets closer to the table, he notices a sheet of paper amidst all the things on top of the table. A tipped-over ink pot and an abandoned quill lie beside the paper, but unfortunately, a sizable ink stain obscures much of the text, leaving only a few legible words.
"Voices...in the dark...can't sleep...what stone... must find...answers.... "
Constable Alena is alive and breathing when Preston turns her around. His gentle shakes seem to help, as the woman slowly opens her eyes, blinking a few times, before suddenly trying to jump away from him and Wulcrath.
"The rats! My bow, quickly! We must rid the place of those filthy vermin!"
Weirdly, her backpack and her bow are no longer near the door where she left them earlier. The items are not around her either.

Dracor would take the note and head back towards the house, making sure that his clothes still looked clean as he made his way there.
Once at the house, he would stop and watch Wulcrath wake the constable. As she woke up and searched for her equipment he would step up close to the red dragonborn. "Your bow wasn't in the barn.. but this note was" He would say as he passed the note to Wulcrath.
Wulcrath is surprised a little as Dracor returns quite quickly. It seems as though there wasn't much of note in the barn. He gently takes the note from Dracor, tilting his head a bit down at the smaller Dragonborn as he studies it. "W-what's this now...?" Wulcrath inspects the note... and now, on top of everything else that's happened this morning, this simply confuses and drains him just that bit more. "V-Voices? W-what in the world does-."
His eyes widen a little as he realizes something, he quickly finds himself distracted from the Constable's situation. An idea or two of what could have happened and what to do coming to his mind finally, but he has to make sure first. He produces the other scrap of paper he himself found outside from his pack, holding them both in each hand as he thinks. "Where'd you find this Dracor?" He asks the Royal Dragonborn as he compares the handwriting on them.
The handwriting appears very similar. It is difficult to say for sure, since the note that Wulcrath found earlier appears very erratic and the one that Dracor presented just now is very stained by the ink.

PWulcrath sighs a little as he contemplates the notes. Becoming a little frustrated at the lack of even somewhat of a revelation on the investigation. “Alright. Thank you friend.” He says looking down at Dracor and giving the smaller Dragonborn an appreciative little smile. Though it doesn’t fully hide the frustration in his scaly features.
He sets the paper scraps back into his pack for now. He turns back to Preston and the Constable as he scans the floor beneath them, searching for that part of the floor the constable mentioned before they were so rudely interrupted by the Rats in the barn. “E-excuse me, can I just…?”
Wulcrath will poke and prod at the boards with a boot, searching for what the Constable discovered earlier. Listening closely…

Preston tries to calm the woman down. Someone or something must of knocked her out and stolen her things.
"The rats are gone, Constable. We’ve dealt with them. Are you alright? Do you remember what happened before you woke up on the ground?"
Then suddenly, it strikes him: her journal. The one containing all the details of the investigation so far. Whatever knocked out the constable probably stole it as well.

Dracor would stop and pause a moment before looking to the mouse... then with a shrug he would keep walking towards the barn.
Just as their about to head into the barn, Preston stops and looks around quizzically.
"Where’s Constable Alena? Wasn’t she with you all?", he asks confused.

As a feeling of unease washes over Preston, he begins to worry.
"I’ll come with you. The Constable will want to see this anyway."
Dracor would continue towards the barn, hoping to finish whatever investigation Preston started.
Wulcrath nods at Preston as he starts on his way, turning back towards the farmhouse. "Right." Now that he thinks about it, the Constable hadn't joined them outside herself yet...
