Xanrym may absolutely use his Heroic Inspiration to do that. He is still up on the deck of the ship. However, the Ettercap will also change it's behavior based on that. Seeing it's fellow get taken down by the Knight and his other companions being slaughtered, the Ettercap desperately look behind it, steps back, opens the door into the next room and goes out of view.
(OOC: Fair. Based on where that ettercap was, do you mean that he went through the door at the north end of the hallway? Or just the door on the port side to that little room next to the stairs?)
Xanrym - re-rolling the DC 12 DEX saving throw: 18
The ettercap's webbing hits Xanrym's leg, but before the ettercap can pull him into the hole, he twists and pivots, using the rought edge of the hole to scrape off the webbing and detach it. Xanrym watches as the ettercap flees into the room (at the north end of the hall?). He gestures below, and the Cloud of Daggers moves to the space directly in front of the door at the opposite (south) end of the hall. Then he follows after Coriana through the cabin at the bow and toward the stairs.
Xanrym calls out, "Wait for me. I'm coming!"
Movement: 30-ft of movement, through the cabin to the north and toward the stairs. Action: Move the Cloud of Daggers to the southeast end of the hall to block the two doors at that end of the hallway. Any creature who enters the Cube AoE or ends its turn there before the start of Xanrym's next turn takes damage: 9 (magical slashing). Free Action: Talking
As everyone gets down to the bottom deck Syllen will focus on the door that the creature went through. Hesitantly Syllen will look at the group.
“Last time we started burning things they came to us so getting rid of some of the webs might be a good idea. If it is okay with everyone I would like to test something that might be effective at getting rid of the webs.”
If no one tells him to stop, Syllen will cast elementalism and beckon fire.
Area: 5 feet cube
Description: You create a thin cloud of harmless embers and colored, scented smoke in a 5-foot Cube. You choose the color and scent, and the embers can light candles, torches, or lamps in that area. The smoke’s scent lingers for 1 minute.
My hope is that the embers will harmlessly remove webs in a 5 foot cube.
Khessa awaits the party's decision whether to chase the ettercap right away or explore the rooms first - but in the meantime she follows in admiration what Syllen does to summon the embers...
With an interested and attentive expression, the blonde arcane warrior takes out her tome with the spider-web--like-decoration on the cover and begins to take notes on the magical actions performed by the elf and the effects that have manifested.
Syllen's fire starts to burn away some of the thin webbing in the room. But he notices that a few sacs of webs hang from the roof. These seem unaffected by the fires as they are thick and apparently moist. When the embers hit them, they go out, but the sacs wriggle just a little bit.
(OOC: at the end of round 2, Xanrym can only make it to the top of the stairs since he had to move the Cloud of Daggers in case the party wanted to give chase to the ettercap Therefore, he won't reunite with the party until round 3. He can make it to the end of the E-W hallway w/o dashing. I should have said that he'll only be dashing if the party charged right into the room to chase the ettercwp. He can make it just through the door at the north of area 5 if he dashes.
I also should have rolled for the round 3 damage for [spells]Cloud of Daggers/[spells]: 9 (magical slashing). That only matters if something tries to come through thowe two doors at the south end of the hall)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Hmmm..." Theldrin scowls as he peers up at the web sacs. "I wonder if that's something hatching... or someone captured." He'll send in his Mage Hand carrying a torch to get a better view and clear some of the other webbing below.
When the mage hand holding the torch goes into the room, the sacs wobble again. This time a little of the webbing burns away but you can't make out what kind of thing is inside.
Khessa is perplexed, seeing the sacks wobble... she is almost certain that no prisoner could have survived days in that sack, without food or water (and maybe even without air!?) and is therefore inclined to believe that inside there are baby-spiderlike-monsters ready to come out and do Lolth's will no less than their worthy parents...
'But... what if I'm wrong?' the blonde arcane warrior cant' help but think to herself 'What if these monsters had a way to keep the prisoners alive there, maybe to eat them later? I wouldn't want to be the one to give them the final blow!'
The tall adventuress meanwhile sends her magical fire, much more intense than the gentle fire of Syllen's embers, to burn the part of the webbing that holds one of the sacks hanging... Once the sack is on the ground, she will try, cautiously, to pierce it and tear its surface from a distance, with the tip of her Pike [[ OOC: the Pike has 10' reach... ]]: "If what comes out doesn't show too much gratitude... be ready to kill it, okay?"

Xanrym nods. His thinking is similar to Khessa's. He doesn't want to abandon any sailors that the ettercaps have captured. On the other hand, the ettercap retreated into this room and left the door open. Xanrym worries that the ettercap knows that the webbed bundles hold some new arachnid monstrosity and that they're about to "hatch."
Xanrym says,"If we all want to follow the ettercap into the room, I can move the Cloud of Daggers so that it guards against anything trying to approach from these other doors." He doesn't want to put the Cloud of Daggers in front of the party while the ettercap is still alive. Xanrym is pretty sure that the ettercap was trying to pull in him into the spell's area of effect.
(OOC: My understanding is that the ettercap went through the door at the north end of the hallway. Xanrym's Cloud of Daggers is currently positioned at the south end of the hallway. Basically, if everyone moves into the room at the north end of the hall, Xanrym could move the AoE so that it's about 5-ft away from the north end of the hallway, right in front of the only door on the port side. That way, any spiders or other enemies that try to approach from the south would have to cross through the spell's AoE.)
(OOC: In the narrow space, it may also help to know where everyone currently is before fighting breaks out again. It sounds like Khessa is taking a round or two to cut one of the bundles loose and try to open it without entering the room by using Fire Bolt and her pike. So, I guess she's right at the door to that room.
If Khessa used Fire Bolt in round 2 and her pike in round 3, I guess Xanrym does not have to dash in round 3. At the end of round 3, Xanrym can make it as far as the end of the E-W hall, right next to the web-covered and badly-rotted wooden grate. He'll still be able to take an action if anything happens before his turn in round 3. For example, he can teleport his Cloud of Daggers anywhere in the hallway in areas 4 or 5.)
When Khessa's magical fire hits the webbing, it burns away and a creature drops out. A grey-blue skinned quadruped will nightmarish claws hanging out at weird angles. The creature resembles a big demonic mouth and it is snapping it's jaw-body in your direction. A Maw Demon. Three more of the demons start popping out of the other sacs in the room, with the Ettercap behind them, having released a couple itself. Initiative:
Group 1: Avery, Syllen, and Theldrin
Group 2: Maw Demons and Ettercap
Group 3: Xanrym, Khessa, and Coriana
Avery, Syllen, and Theldrin are up. The Maw Demons are moving into the room chomping their jaws at you. (You can all let me know how you'd like to be placed along with your actions and i'll make up the map accordingly.)
(OOC: If you're referring to the light crossbow's Slowmastery property, then I doubt that that's accessible to Theldrin without the use of a feat:
Each weapon has a mastery property, which is usable only by a character who has a feature, such as Weapon Mastery, that unlocks the property for the character.
IIRC, the classes that get Weapon Mastery are barbarians, fighters, paladins, rangers, and rogues.)
“I think we should try checking out some of these small rooms before following the ettercap.”

Note-will be away for a couple of days
Theldrin nods grimly, readying his crossbow, prepared to shoot a bolt at anything spider-like and/or hostile that comes out the sac.

(If Theldrin can take his readied action)
Theldrin fires his crossbow as soon as he sees the demonic form start to emerge from the sac.
Attack: 19 Damage: 8
He then follows up with a Fire Bolt before retreating (close to the doorway where Avery was restrained).
Attack: 21 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

True Strike Hit: 23 Damage: 6 Radiant
Luminous Arrow Hit: 20 Damage: 8 Radiant
(OOC: Ah ok was wondering how that worked, thanks)
Avery might not be available... Shall the DM decide what he does? Or... how you guys usually handle this?
