"Interesting..." Theldrin takes the brooch and looks it over, then tucks it away for future more in-depth study. He prepares himself for attacking the mushroom with a Fire Bolt when the party is ready.
Once the party has spent 1 round trying to destroy the Shrieker, Xanrym moves forward with Liarin. Hopefully, as they approach, the Shrieker is already dead and silent. Xanrym falls in at the rear of the party as they proceed to the narrow tunnel that leads past the dead troglodytes and up the stairs to the main "basement" level of the temple. Presumably, the party first retraces their steps and goes back to the treasure chest on the opposite end of the L-shaped hallway.
As he gets back to the door that leads back toward the place where they fought the ettin, Xanrym checks the door to see whether his bell apparatus is still in place.
Xanrym disassembles the apparatus and puts away the bell. He says, "It looks like no one came down after us, so that's good news. I guess that the treasure chest should still be there at the end of the hall, but I'd still recommend caution! If it were truly unguarded, then why didn't they hide it behind the secret door? Leaving the chest out in the open like that feels like a trap of some sort." He loads a bolt in his crossbow so that he's ready in case something attacks whichever one of them investigates the chest.
"it's true... yet I was able to lift a garnet from it with my Mage Hand," Theldrin muses thoughtfully, frowning as he rubs his beard. He moves close enough to the chest to see if Detect Magic shows anything magical in the vicinity.
"Yes, I suppose..." Theldrin answers thoughtfully, "I"m not thinking of any better ideas since Mage Hand didn't trigger any traps." He looks to Liarin and Xanrym to see what they think.

Xanrym shrugs. "I don't know. It looks fine," he says, glancing around the plain hallway again."It doesn't seem like anyone else is down here. Maybe we should leave the chest and come back for the treasure after we explore the rest of the temple? I mean, do we want to carry around a chest filled with gold and gems while we try to sneak around the temple?"
If anyone still wants to take what they can from the chest now, then Xanrym will just ready an attack with his crossbow, aiming down the hall toward the chest. Assuming that the chest isn't trapped, he's worried that there's a creature (invisible / camouflaged / hidden) around the chest that's going to attack as soon as anyone tries to move it.

(OOC: Xanrym readied action didn't trigger since characters can't use a reaction while surprised.)
Xanrym can't believe what he's seeing: "What the...? Is the whole chest filled with biting coins?!"
Forgetting his crossbow, he casts vicious mockery at the thing and says, "A gold piece saved is a gold piece that should have been killed!"
Since Xanrym was at the back of the line, he moves back and then through the door to the south that leads toward where they fought the ettin. That should give his companions a clear path to retreat away from the biting treasure. He says, "I'm falling back!"
Movement: 30' of movement. Move forward, if needed, to get line-of-sight to the mimic. Then use the rest of his movement to retreat. Action: Cast spell Vicious Mockery on the mimic, WIS 13 save or it takes damage (3 psychic) and has disadvantage on the next roll it makes before the end of its next turn. Free Action: Talking. Item Interaction - open door to the south.

As Avery runs forward to attack the first coin mimic, another coin bites at his leg, causing him to miss. At the same time another coin flips up from the ground and attempts to attach itself to his arm, forming a sticky golden pseudopod:

Pseudopod Attack against Avery: 15 Damage: 11 Bludgening and he is Grappled by it.
Concurrently, the first coin mimic attempts to pseudopod grapple Liarin:

The Shrieker shrivels you and dies before it can let out it’s horrible wail. And yes, Xanrym’s bell apparatus is still working, no one has set it off.

Nothing magical shows up.
Avery will move up, get into a supporting position. "Well, who dares wins right? Shall I touch it or does someone else want to?"

As Liarin walks forward, one of the coins on the ground grows little teeth and chomps at her foot, the mimic attacks with advantage due to surprise:
Bite Attack against Liarin: Attack: 20 Damage: 4 Piercing plus 1 Acid.
I'll roll initiative for you all:
Group 1: Avery, Theldrin, Xanrym
Group 2: Mimic
Group 3: Liarin
Group 1 is up: Avery, Theldrin, Xanrym
A small gold coin on the ground at Liarin's feet just bit her on the leg.
