Ok, Oliver is really against undergoing the spell now, he responds "I just don't see the point! Surely we've proven that you can trust us by now!" He begins backing away, looking over his shoulder. You definitely get the feeling this guy doesn't want to be under your control for that long, and he is about to bolt. Even Toska looks at him suspiciously.

Xanrym tries to keep Oliver's attention with conversation to give Avery or one of the others time to get into position to catch him. "Come! Where are you going Oliver? The road is dangerous at night, even this close to Orlane," he says, backing away from Oliver with his hands held in front of himself and open, clearly empty. "Let's not say that we don't trust each other, just that we don't trust ourselves. I thought that we could trust the priestess of Merikka, Misha, to heal Maajid, but I was wrong. Imagine what would have happened if he had slept at the temple two nights ago instead of at the inn with us!"
Based on Oliver's initial reaction, Xanrym would prefer for Oliver to flee than to back down and join them, so he's not trying very hard to convince Oliver to stay. But Xanrym would like to find out what he knows or has already done instead of just letting him run back to the other cultists in Orlane. As Xanrym backs away, he tries to maneuver to the side so that if Oliver continues to face him, his back will be toward Avery or Liarin, whomever is closest. (I guess that's Deception15 to try to position Oliver without being obvious about it.)
(OOC: I was thinking that Avery was most likely to stop Oliver and probably [Tooltip Not Found] him into telling us more. But I guess @Aaggie is away until Monday.)
Liarin and Xanrym are up. Oliver is looking very skittish and is about to bolt.
Xanrym stands, remaining near the campfire, trying to stay a good 10 feet or more away from Oliver. It's clear to him that Oliver is a cult member, either willingly or under the naga's spell. He can't think of any other explanation for his behavior.
Xanrym makes one last try to prevent Oliver from bolting. "Oliver, what has come over you? You're acting very strangely!", he says sternly, "Why are you unwilling to commit to defeating the naga?" Then Xanrym lightens his tone. "Come! Even dark deeds may be forgiven if you work to set things right. Avery, bring him here so that he may sit down and tell us what he's done,"he says, gesturing to a spot by the campfire. "You'll feel better, Oliver, if you bring your fears into the light. The naga's cult holds more power in darkness and secrecy. Sit. Tell us what you've done." While he talks, he takes one of his books in his left hand.

Oliver continues to back away, realising your argument is sound but still needing to flee, he's stopped trying to convince you all he's innocent and is about to take off.
Liston casts entangle Str save DC 15 on Olver, creating a 20 ft wide square of difficult terrain around him spreading away from the party, and restraining him if he fails the save.

Vines sprout from the ground, stopping Oliver in his tracks. He struggles but to no real avail. As the vines grow around his arms and legs his eyes dart back and forward to each of you, “This is how you treat one of your compatriots is it? You all are worse that those you seek to destroy!”
(OOC: Am I correct in interpreting the 5E version of Entangle that the save vs. being restrained is only when the spell is cast, vs. moving into or ending your turn within the area of effect like the 3.5/Pathfinder version?)

(OOC: I did some digging on this one recently, and yes, that's the intent in 5E. It only restrains when it's first cast. After that, restrained characters can struggle to get free, but it's just difficult terrain for anyone who enters the area. Is Theldrin planning to take the 1 minute to cast Identify on Oliver? I've started to suspect that he's a willing collaborator and not under the naga's spell.)
(OOC: I'm thinking with Aaggie still gone for another day or so, maybe we can say that Avery and Theldrin move into the difficult terrain to attempt to tie up Oliver if that works for everyone. Then if that's successful, Theldrin could still cast Identify as a ritual to see if he is under a spell effect.)

Noting Oliver's reaction, Theldrin decides to cast Sleep if he sees Oliver start to bolt.

I think you can definitely position Oliver near both Avery and Liarin.
He is definitely going to run while yelling "I have to go back. I have to go back!"
What's the plan? Is someone going to try and grab him or hit him with a sleep spell? Or just let him go.
Liston will cast entangle str save 15 if he gets free of every one else.

Theldrin holds off on casting Sleep unless it looks like Oliver is going to get away.
(OOC: I was thinking that Avery was most likely to stop Oliver and probably [Tooltip Not Found] him into telling us more. But I guess @Aaggie is away until Monday.)
I think the easiest way to do this is to roll initiative. We’ll sort this out in turn order:
Group 1: Liarin, Xanryn
Group 2: Oliver
Group 3: Avery, Theldrin
Liarin and Xanrym are up. Oliver is looking very skittish and is about to bolt.
(OOC: Would Theldrin has his Sleep spell as a readied action if Oliver bolts on his turn?)
Yes

Persuasion 20
(OOC: Well, that wasn't a great roll, but I guess that implying that Avery is going to grab him will trigger Oliver to make a move.)
Oliver continues to back away, realising your argument is sound but still needing to flee, he's stopped trying to convince you all he's innocent and is about to take off.
But Liarin is still up.
Sorry, Saturday is sometimes hard.
