Xanrym bursts into the room and shoots off a crossbow shot into Blayze's back, she crumples to the floor dead. He then gets a good look at the other two. A hulking bear of a man, bald, no shirt, and a giant sword drawn. The other is shorter bearded man with a bandana around his head and loose fitting leather armour, he has a scimitar at his hip hip and a bandolier of daggers around his shoulder. After a moment of complete shock, the giant man roars and chases after Xanrym, while the other follows behind yelling, "Don't fall for any of their tricks Benn, we still have the upper hand here!" Initiative:
Group 1: Avery
Group 2: Benn and Jarvis
Group 3: Xanrym, Theldrin, Liarin
Battle map incoming. Avery is up, Theldrin and Xanrym are coming running around the corner with the Naga's Teeth close behind.
Theldrin and Xanrym are coming running around the corner with the Naga's Teeth close behind.
(OOC: Sounds good. A map will be good. If Xanrym got a full surprise round, then he may be able to get all the way back to the mud room before Benn can catch up. If not, the others may need to rescue him in the hallway.)
Xanrym hopes that the cultists think he's a lone survivor, but he wants to warn the others of what to expect. He taunts the cultists as he runs, "Curse you and your cult! You two will never catch me." Xanrym tries to say it loud enough for Theldrin and maybe the rest of the party to hear him but not loud enough to alert any of the other guards that he heard Jarvis talking about.
Avery i'd say with the amount of movement you have you could only close to melee with the bald man if you used he Dash action. Do you want to do that or stay closer to your friends and prepare somehow for combat?

(OOC: I think that the question is whether Avery dashes to get into melee distance this round w/o being able to make an attack because he used his action to dash. He'd basically engage them all by himself down at the west end of the hallway. Or...he could withdraw to the mud room to try to surprise them as they approach or maybe ready an attack in case they close to melee distance on their turn.)

Again, my mistake. I thought they came in. I never said I moved, just attacked
Fair enough. So does Avery want to move and try and get into melee with the Naga's Teeth, or stay in the large hall most of the others are in, or something else?

He was holding the door, so he will remain with the group, not wanting to get himself surrounded by more than one enemy.
(OOC: I don't think that the mud room had doors, just tunnels leading out of that chamber to the north and south. The door where Xanrym found Blayze was north, up that hallway what's runs along the west side of the mud room.
For me, the pertinent question for me is whether Avery is in the hallway, trying to block Benn from getting to Xanrym this round, or whether Avery is in mud room, waiting for Xanrym to lure the enemies in there but leaving Xanrym very exposed this round.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Benn and Jarvis run the rest of the way down the corridor and unleash on Xanrym. Benn will use his Reckless ability to gain advantage on his attacks, but he's in such a rage that you realise you could also get advantage on attacks against him. Jarvis, being still stuck at the back, throws two daggers at the bard.
Benn Greatsword 1 against Xanrym Attack: 17 Damage: 10 Slashing
Benn Greatsword 2 against Xanrym Attack: 21 Damage: 8 Slashing
Jarvis Dagger 1 against Xanrym Attack: 23 Damage: 4 Piercing
Jarvis Dagger 2 against Xanrym Attack: 24 Damage: 4 Piercing
I got a strong feeling that may have downed Xanrym, perhaps even cause a couple death fails, so i'll wait for Xanrym to report how he's faring. I will quickly remind Xanrym that he doesn't need to act now until Theldrin, Liarin, Avery, and Toska have gone, so please think about that before possibly failing any death saves.
(OOC: Ouch! Yes, Xanrym was knocked unconscious, but the sequencing matters here.
If Jarvis hit first, then Xanrym is only hit 1 time after he is knocked unconscious for 1 failed death save.
If Benn hit him first, then Benn knocked Xanrym unconscious. At that point, Xanrym presumably fell down prone, and Jarvis's ranged attacks should be made at disadvantage, right? If both of those attacks still hit, then Xanrym will already have 2 failed death saves at the end of the cultists turn.
Don't forget that Avery and Theldrin spread caltrops (and oil) in the 5' square in the center of the hall just to the west of Xanrym. Xanrym knew to step around them, but if Benn is recklessly attacking, I doubt that he'd notice. He'll need to roll a DC 15 saving throw or take 1 piercing damage and have his speed reduced by 10 ft until he is healed.)
Xanrym stayed just long enough to see Blayze crumple before he turned and fled back to the mud room. He races back down the hall, seeing Theldrin retreat back to their ambush position in the mud room. Xanrym hears the cultists racing after him. "Good," he thinks, "right into our trap." Of course, that's before he realizes that he didn't put as much distance between himself and the cultists as he thought. As Xanrym makes his way carefully past the caltrops, Benn races up the center of the tunnel, catching up to Xanrym before the bard can get back into the mud room.
Xanrym turns to try to defend himself, but before he can do anything, he is struck down in a flurry of attacks and falls to the ground unconscious.
(OOC: Yikes, do Benn and Jarvis seem faster than normal or did Xanrym just miscalculate? Not sure now as to map/position, does Theldrin have a good view of either or both enemies?)

He steps onto caltrops as he drops Xanrym to the ground. We will say that Jarvis then through the two daggers at disadvantage. Here's his other two dice rolls to see if he misses either of them, Xanrym is down either way:
Attack 1: 24
Attack 2: 8
Now in terms of the distance covered, Xanrym was standing at the end of the hall when he started running and had two turns. One to shoot Blayze and run, the other to take the Dash action, which gets him 9 squares, exactly out the front of the room you are all in. In that time Benn and Jarvis were only able to take the Dash action. However, as they rolled a higher initiative than most of you, they also got another move and attack, which also gives them a total of 9 squares.
You all are up. Xanrym is down and making death saves, while Jarvis and Benn are trying to kill him for murdering their companion. They don't know the rest of you are in this next room yet.

Yes, my mistake-the bald man

Yeesh, so sorry but Xanrym is one failed death save from dying.
