Avery's sword slices the last guard down the middle, while at the same time Theldrin ignites the oil in the hallway. The acolytes shrink back at the flames.
Xanrym and Liarin are up. There is now a patch of fire in the middle of the hallway between you and the acolytes.
Oops! Now that Xanrym sees how weak the resistance is, he realizes that the fire makes it harder for them to chase down the acolytes.
If the party has to face the acolytes, Xanrym would prefer to draw them into melee with the bear before the guards whom he misdirected return. He taunts loudly, "See?! These supposed devotees of Explictica Defilus have no faith. They won't even jump through a a simple fire to save her. Why don't we just go kill the bloated snake that they call a god while they cower under their beds!" He fires his crossbow through the flames at the first acolyte he can see.
Movement: None. Staying behind the column for cover Action: Attack, Crossbow, Light (80/320): 17, Damage: 10 (piercing) Free Action: Talking / taunting. (Let me know whether Xanrym needs a skill check for this.)
Concentration: Heroism round 8 of 10, both Avery and Xanrym have their THP set to 3.
None of them make it through, stepping on the caltrops and burning themselves in the fire. One of them goes down under Liarin's claws, the four other guards see this all from the end of the hall. The other three acolytes throw Death Bolts at Avery, Liarin, and Theldrin. One of them is at disadvantage due to being in melee:
Acolyte 1 Death Bolt against Avery: Attack: 10 Damage: 8 Necrotic
Acolyte 2 Death Bolt against Liarin: Attack: 17 Damage: 7 Necrotic
Acolyte 3 Death Bolt against Theldrin at Disadvantage Attack: 6 Damage: 4
You all are up. The acolytes in the hall are throwing Death Bolts while the 4 guards watch from afar.
Liarin, angered by the death bolt will strike out, attacking any cultist within reach, and moving up into the flames and caltrops to find fresh targets if there are none close by.
(OOC: I'm not sure whether Liarin needs to wade through the caltrops & fire to reach her next target, but if she needs to move more than half her speed, i.e. 20ft, then she'll need to pass a DC 15 DEX saving throw or get stuck on the caltrops in the fire for the rest of her turn.
Of course, if she does go through the fire, that would be a terrifying sight for the remaining guards. Example from SparkysPrints on etsy:
(OOC: by my tracking, we should have taken down all of the acolytes at this point.)
Xanrym shouts a spell at the nearest guard to Liarin who is still standing: "You seem brave, but do you think that you'll survive against a fire-proof bear?!"
Xanrym also calls over his shoulder: "Toska, could you check to make sure nothing is coming toward the doorway behind you?" He wants to make sure that they're not so focused on the guards in front of them that they are surprised by an attack from the south.
Movement: Xanrym probably has to move to at least 10' to his west to see the guards if they're 10' or more up the tunnel to the north. Action: Cast spell Vicious Mockery on a guard who is close enough to hit Liarin Guard must pass a WIS 13 save or take 4 (psychic) damage and have disadvantage on the next attack roll he makes before the end of his next turn. Free Action: Talking to Toska.
Concentration: Heroism round 9 of 10, Avery and Xanrym get 3 THP at the start of their turn
She doesn't see or hear anyone coming from that direction and let's you know.
As you wade through the rest of the acolytes, and Liarin bursts through the fire towards the guards, they completely break and run. Liarin would be able to see that they run back towards the north east.
Avery continues the fight, attack 11, damage 11
Theldrin again attempts to ignite the oil with a Fire Bolt.

Hm. New dice roller problems.
Damage: 11 (piercing)
Go ahead and roll a Deception check for me.
Deception 15 (Silver Tongue feature)
I'd say that does it, the acolytes look ready to jump through the fire once Liarin takes their turn.
Liarin readies a claw attack for once the enemies get within melee range. (Not wading through flaming caltrops.)
Attack: 25 Damage: 13 slashing.

Theldrin aims a Fire Bolt at the acolyte who threw a Death Bolt at Avery, or the nearest guard if the acolytes are all down.
