"By decree of the council of Bremen I demand to know why you are hindering the fishing here and here by order you to cease your activities."
Decrees Barnabus. Not one to over think a situation, he relies on his orders and protocol to guide him through most situations. This allows him to ignore more surprising details like the fact that the creature speak.
It eyes you both wearily, reptilian eyes masking its intent. "The Frostmaiden demands the people of Bremen suffer. That's what Ravisin says. And what the woodsman wants for his gifts, the woodsman gets. I'd rather have just stayed in my depths, but land dwellers place value on debts, so I have to repay mine. I don't want him angry with me or else... The fishermen aren't allowed."
It concludes its speech by snapping its jaws at you. The action is harmless by itself, but it is posturing in the face of an intimidation attempt.

Morkeleb puzzles a bit on what the creature might mean.
“Do you mean that you were something else before, perhaps a fish, and then Ravisin the woodsman transformed you into the splendid creature we now see before us?”
“No, I mean he made me think. Talk. I was like this before, mostly living in the depths. Then he needed someone to starve out the town, keep boats from coming in, so he gave me this,” it visibly shudders for a moment, “and I’d rather keep it than spare a few land dwellers.”
Water trickles against your boots. While the creature may not be attacking at the moment, it’s only a matter of time before the holes in the boat become an issue.
( “…He made me think. Talk.” And apparently it was a “dumb beast” before that. The player in me has ideas as to what this could mean. Whether or not Morkeleb can understand it is another matter. )
(For clarity’s sake, the woodsman’s gift is that this plesiosaur can think and talk. This is not typical of the species in any way, and it doesn’t really know the words to describe it in precise detail)
"Is there another way we can ask you to cease preventing the towns folk from fishing? Is there something we can get you or do for you?" Jar asks, hoping for a non-violent solution.
Noticing the issue with their boat, and trying to think fast, Morkeleb adds, “You seem to me a creature of honor. Perhaps we can make a pact, one that is beneficial to you. What if we were to track down this Ravisin, ensure that he can never take his gift away from you? Then you would be truly free, you would not have that hanging over your head any more.”
If it seems as though the creature is not going to take them up on this offer, Morkeleb will hastily offer his haul of fish, which he will make clear that he was going to enjoy as his next meal, as a token of trust, in the hopes of it being enough that the creature will agree to this plan.

Morkeleb will put a hand on Barnabus' shoulder. "Easy, there. Not sure we are in a position to make demands."
To the fish-monster he will ask, "Why do you say you're not supposed to let people fish here? Is there not enough for you and them?"

Would Morkeleb, by chance, having lived in Bremen for about 2 years now, know of this Ravisin the woodsman?
He will ask the creature, “What did this woodsman give you, that you feel so indebted?”
All of you can be very sure that the name Ravisin rings no bells.
“This. He gave me this. I don’t want to go back to being a stupid beast.”

(OOC - Sorry not following. What did the woodsman give the creature?)

(Could Nox make a religion or arcana check to determine what exactly the woodsman did to the plesiosaur assuming it was done by magical means?)
Make your choice of religion or arcana.
Arcana roll; 9
You're pretty sure this is the result of a long-term spell, but the details unfortunately appears to be beyond your knowledge.
Barnabus listens to the parlay but his grip on his Shield only gets tighter.

One of its eyes opens a bit wider at this thought. Roll Persuasion with advantage (since Jar's helping).
Muttering a quick prayer to himself that the creature will heed their words, Morkeleb casts guidance on himself.
Persuasion 14
