Good captain Zodge sir, I..I think there's been some mistake. I'm just a student, a wizzzz, wizzard in training even. Certainly these four robust, outstanding and far more experienced folks are more than capable of searching out your Dead Three and , oh dear me...ki ki killl them for you. so, if it'll be ok with you, I'll collect the spell components my master sent me to fetch and whisk back to Waterdeep on the next ship? I smile and look around sheepishly at my new friends...then back up to the scary looking captain...
Raynoir moves to stand next to Elias Starlight, he places a reassuring hand on his shoulder, "Master Starlight, all will be well, we have all arrived here for a reason and I am confident we will do what is right".
With that Ray looks at the rest of the group looking to gain a sense mutual collegiality towards justice and truth.
"It's not like I have a choice but to do what I'm told. With that being said, say we were to capture some of these 'purveyors of fear and death' for the purposes of interrogation, will our reward see an increase?"
At Basilisk Gate, Khessa is extremely pleased with how the young wizard's spell has the desired effect and helps to resolve the issue before and without anyone being killed. "Wonderful job, Elias!" she pats him on the shoulder "And you too, guys!" she adds, turning to the others to helped her defend the young wizard "Great teamwork!"
When Captain Zodge calls the party, the blonde warrior follows him without hesitation and listens attentively. Her mouth opens involuntarily in horror, hearing that an entire city like Elturel has been destroyed and nothing remains but a hole in the ground. What terrible (and ruthless) force could have done this? Then, connecting it with what happened (fortunately on a smaller scale and in a less sensational way) to Twardens, her hamlet razed by drow, the answer comes spontaneously to her mind.
"The drow of the Underdark!" As soon as the captain finishes speaking, the tall adventurer's beautiful features contract in an expression of pure ferocity. "They are definitely the ones behind what happened in Elturel! That's the direction to investigate, captain, I know it! A band of those damned Underdark vermins destroyed my hamlet, leaving nothing but smoking ruins! They took all of us inhabitants as slaves - except those who resisted and were killed! It must have been them in Elturel too! It's the same thing, only on a larger scale! They must have sent a true army, this time, and struck by surprise... Then destroyed the city with their dark magic... The poor surviving citizens are probably being led at this very moment through the dark underground passages of the Underdark, in servitude for life..."
Taking a deep breath to calm down, Khessa, having warned the captain and hoping that, having an idea of the possible threat, the Flaming Fist will be able to counter it better, focuses on the task that has just been assigned to the party. "The Dead Three, you say... Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul..." she shakes her head (causing a small wave in her long blonde curls) "I certainly do not miss those accursed deities... It will be a pleasure to make their cult no less dead than they are".
The blonde warrior smiles approvingly at Atlas's idea and awaits the captain's response on the matter. In the meantime, she joins the two dragonborn in trying to cheer Elias up and, staring into his blue eyes and touching his cheek with her left hand, she whispers: "I would be very happy if you stay with us... You've seen how useful your magical talents have been to us... And don't you think about all the harm those cruel cultists could do, if left free to act? With you it will probably be much easier to resolve the issue..."
"Not to mention that..." the tall adventurer hesitates for a moment - then decides to continue and brings her mouth close to his ear, in a conspiratorial manner "not to mention that, you know, I'm trying to study magic... but with disappointing results, so far! I'm sure that if you stay with us and can... every now and then... explain something to me... maybe I could make progress! You know, I've never had a master... I lack the basics..."
ZODGE looks at ELIAS, “The city is locked down. You will not be going to Waterdeep. You will do as I say, or I will have you cleaning the sewers until you are old and gray.” He looks toward RAYNOIR and gives him a wink as if he already knows that this Dragonborn Cleric will help guide the young wizard along.
He then turns to KHESSA, “The Drow,” Zodge pauses in thought. "May be,he says slowly. "Who knows what happened to Elturel. My concern is Baldur’s Gate. Let those sanctimonious Hellriders deal with Elturel.”
ZODGE nods affirmatively toward TAZZAVUR, and then gives ATLAS a smile knowing that this Rogue is not much different than himself, and like many in Baldur's Gate, “As I said my gratitude will be reward enough. I had rather not worry about needing to house or feed these vermin of the Dead Three.”
ZODGE, always surrounded by others from the Guard, looks to one of them and holds out five fingers. The Guardsman produces a pouch and gives ZODGE five copper badges. ZODGE gives one to each of you. He waits to give one to ELIAS last, “Waterdeep can wait. You are now one of my Guards of the Flaming Fist.”
(Without a doubt. Tazzavur and Atlas both would know of the place. The others….not so much. Though there are rowdier establishments in Baldur’s Gate as the Elfsong caters to a wide demographic of all sorts of people. And to edit, I could see the locations along the wharf being more of Tazz’s kinds of places. But you would know about the Elfsong. It is notorious in Baldur’s Gate.)
"Unfortunately, one cannot spend gratitude. I guess I'll have to settle for raiding the coffers of the dead."
Atlas reluctantly takes the badge and pins it to the inside of his cloak so as to conceal it from public view. If anyone in his shady circles were to see that he was working for the nobles Atlas would lose all his credibility and connections in the dark.
"Do we have any information on these 'Death Dealers' other than they are evil? How they look? Where they frequent?"
ZODGE will look at ATLAS, "The Cultist of the Dead Three are mostly humans. Human scum! But there are all sorts that deal in their death and death magic, so don't be surprised if you find something else. Disgusting, all of them! Again, find Tarina. She may know more as to where these miscreants are now hiding. And once again, be nice. I may need her services again."
The young wizard wipes a tear from his eye, pulls a book and quill from a satchel, clears his throat and begins to write, see Tariua in the Elfsong Tavern, ask info on cultist of the dead three who use death magic. looks around at everyone, well then, if I should die would one of return my signet ring to master Orbos of house Silversword in Waterdeep? You should be able to use the ring to secure passage a ship.
Khessa grabs the badge with determination and a self-confident smile. Following the example of the other party members, she hides it on her person - she will only take it out in front of those who are appropriate to show it.
The blonde warrior nods to the shadiest of her new friends: "I totally agree, Atlas! Let's go!"
On the way, the tall adventuress stays close to the young wizard and puts her hand on his shoulder to reassure him: "Everything will be fine. Elias! Can't you see how big I am? If you smell trouble," she winks "just take cover behind me! No one should be able to target (much less hit) you ! And so, none of us will have to carry rings to other cities in your place!"
Ray studies the badge briefly, "Just a wee ring, nothing to worry about just a wise precaution nonetheless" and puts it on. Once done Ray smiles to everyone (which would be an odd sight for a Dragonborne!), and continues to stand near Elias, "OK, I'm ready, let's get this started"and with that one large shinny and smiling... Dragonborn is good to go.
As the group heads off, TAZZAVUR falls in beside ATLAS.
”I served with a padfoot in the recent Cormyr campaigns. Odd fellow but one hell of a scout.”
TAZZAVUR travels in silence for 10 paces.
“What was his name? Ah, we called him lefty. That wasn’t his real name, though.”
He looks down at his new companion as the continue their journey.
”He thought to pilfer himself some goodies from one of them war wizards and found himself short a couple of digits when the pouch he was rummaging in grew teeth.”
TAZZAVUR looks straight ahead and continues along the street.
”Nasty business. Nasty” He snaps his jaws several times. “Nasty.”

“Bah, the Dead Three!” Tazzavur spits on the ground, his distaste evident as a small acrid steam wafts from his spittle.
”We fought a horde of their undead minions at the Battle of Melton Creek.”
He turns to Elias, “Fear not little mageling, think of it as field research for bedtime stories you tell those whelps you were talking about!”

(What do you do next?)
[[Is the Elfsong Tavern the kind of Place TAZ would have frequented (rowdy, strong booze and stronger company) or somewhere more refined?]]

“The Elfsong Tavern, eh?”
TAZZAVUR notes ATLAS’ concealment and puts his own badge on a pouch at his waist.
”Not sure these badges will gain us the right kind of attention at the Elfsong. But good to have if we need them.”
Hand trembling and face awashed absolute fear, I take the badge and whimper ye yesss sir
ZODGE will look at ATLAS, "The Cultist of the Dead Three are mostly humans. Human scum! Atlas reaches forward to take the ring, not specifically confirming that he would give it to his master.
"Alright, lets get this over with. The sooner we get the information we need the sooner we can deal with this major headache and be done with it."
wait, not yet...if I die. If I loose that now my master will surely use me for fireball practice.
Atlas would like to ascertain, as best he can, the value of this ring with just this brief look that he is given.
"Well, why wait for out deaths to come to us. If nobody has anything further then we should bid adieu and start kicking rocks."
Khessa grabs the badge with determination and a self-confident smile. Following the example of the other party members, she hides it on her person - she will only take it out in front of those who are appropriate to show it.
