This time the Gauntlet misses by a mile... it reminds Khessa of the Bane leader when he was in a panic.
'Can these... self-moving objects also feel fear?' the tall adventuress wonders 'Or is it just a coincidence?'
However, the magically disguised blonde arcane warrior does not intend to give her unusual opponent time to recover and, raising her Maul again, she delivers a quick horizontal strike, hoping to send the object crashing into the nearest wall.
Elias makes a feeble attempt to hit it again with his staff, attack roll 3. I never should have skipped out on martial training, enough of this. As a bonus action he summons the magical quill into his free hand and readies a spell for his next turn.
Atlasis unsure of what he can even do against something like this will head towards the prisoner to help release them from their shackles on his next turn.
Atlaswill continue heading for the prisoner but think to himself, "I won't know what I can do if I don't give it a go." and he will quickly lose an arrow at the GAUNTLET.
ATLAS, seeing the party struggle against this last GAUNTLET, fires an arrow at it. It whizzes between other members of the party striking the metal hand. The GAUNTLET shatters into parts. Its magical energies disapate.
VICTORY!
(Atlas needed a 19 to hit it. I moved your token to an open square.)
"Indeed Elias!" the magically disguised blonde arcane warrior smiles gratefully at the young wizard, both for having defended her so zealously until now, and for having now tempered the great risk she has taken with a little humor "This Bath House in particular really needs improving - and improve it will!"
"Well done, Atlas, by the way!" Khessa also smiles to the other friend "At this point, the work of destroying the altar can be postponed..." she approaches the prisoner "I would not want us to have any more 'surprises'; this poor girl needs assistance immediately. We must get her to safety. We can continue our cleaning work later".
The tall adventuress quickly frees the poor thing from her chains, while she speculates: "We could take her to Rahima. She is a charitable priestess. Perhaps she will be willing to heal her. And while Rahima takes care of her, we can return here to finish what we started".
Khessa is tempted to break the chains without too much ceremony, but knows it is probably more practical to open them with the key - so she sighs and searches first the Cultist Leader, then, if he does not have the key, the other Cultists.
“Elias, you are so correct! Too much stone and sacrificing. Not good, not good. I would suggest a bunch of water lillies over here and some climbing vines in the corner. Anything that has been used to kill people definitely needs to go - bad spirits and feng shi and juju and stuff - to be replaced by something cleansing, like a hawthorn.” Rosebud is not being particularly useful but is enjoying her mental redecoration project. She is pleased to be with this group that hasn’t asked her to tone it down or required her to go into one of her animal forms. Changing shapes sometimes tickles her and she doesn’t want to laugh at the wrong time. She does consider herself a serious person, after all.
Khessa quicky shares the money [[ OOC: 4gp 10sp for each party member, counting still Raynoir - he will not be with us anymore but he took part in the encounter... so I think it makes sense to share with him too this loot. 1gp left unshared - keeping it to share later. ]] then uses the keys to free the prisoner, helping her stand, if she can stand, else just taking her in her arms.
"Come on, let's go find Rahima" the tall adventuress leads the party back out.
[[ OOC: Khessa thinks about Rahima because she does not know Raynoir is leaving - but since he in fact is he might offer himself to go out and take care of the girl... so we can stay in the dungeon and continue. If you like this idea, DM, just post for Raynoir... Else, to find Rahima we go. The girl needs healing. And we have none left... ]]
KHESSA works through the seven keys and finds the right one to unlock the manacles.
RAYNOIR andREYA will check the prisoner. Small piercing wounds riddle her arms, legs, and abdomen. Some of the wounds are still bleeding as others have clotted. They remove the burlap sack from her head. The raven-haired woman has the look of sheer terror.
“It is OK,”REYA tries to calm the woman. “We are not here to hurt you. What’s your name?”
She looks up at the Paladin and begins to calm down. Though weak and barely able to speaks says, “Klima…Klima Jhasso.”
REYA pulls out her waterskin and helps Klima with a drink. She takes the water too quickly and begins to choke.
“Not so fast,” REYA says. She aids Klima to take the drink slowly.
The Paladin then takes a spare undershirt from her backpack and tears out strips. She pours water from her waterskin and begins to clean Klima’s wounds. When complete KHESSA helps Klima to her feet. She is very weak but can stand and walk.
“Do you know how you ended up down here?” REYA asks the former prisoner.
The woman responds, “I was in the lower city visiting a friend. The time got by me. It was night when I left to return to the Upper City, and I was alone. Stupid.” She nearly yells out. “I should know better in Baldur's Gate. The next thing, someone put a sack over my head and knocked me out. I awoke hearing how I was going to be killed slowly for it was easier to get the blood from the living. It has been hours of pain before you showed up.”
Then REYA looks at the party and with the mind of a soldier says, “If we leave, they will likely reinforce this place upon our return. We should leave a note on this one,” she points to the helmed man. “Say something like, we are here to rescue Klima. Do not come for her again. Or something like that.” She pauses, “But I do not have pen or paper, and honestly not very good at such things.”
(I will pause to see if anyone else has something to add, like a note or some other idea that would lessen the idea to reinforce the area. Otherwise, the party will back out of the Dungeon of the Dead Three.)
Ah yes! Elias pulls out a piece of paper and summons his quill. Dear Cultist, Thank you so much for the somewhat safe return of Lady Kilma, we shall be returning her to her family now and they kindly ask that you purser her not, nor make any attempt of retribution. If you should then be prepared to face the full wrath of not only the authorities of this city but also the combined ruling houses. Master Elias, Wizard of House SilverSword. He then places his signet ring to the paper, a brief and small flash of light as he pulls his hand away from the paper and the noble house family seal of Silversword has been burned into the page. He presents the page to sister Reya, How's that?
Khessa comments: "The script seems perfect to me - but my idea was not to go away for long, just the minimum time necessary to get Klima to safety. As soon as Klima is safe, I would come back in here immediately... Also because, from what we have seen, the cooperation between the three branches of the Cultists does not seem to be a given - the Bane branch seemed perfectly acceptable to kill a member of the Myrkul herd. And the Bane branch should now be almost exterminated... If when we return we make sure we have completely eradicated it, perhaps we can rest in their area. The Myrkul and Bhaal Cultists could also take precautions of their own, without notifying the Bane Cultists".
“Fancy writing, Elias. If you would like, I can redecorate this place. Not the trees and stuff that would make a permanent improvement since that would take too long. But I can move dirt quickly to either impede or facilitate movement. Hmm, now why didn’t I remember to do that instead of relying on Reya to cross the water. Oh, silly me. But I remember now and can have some fun.” To demonstrate, she casts her Mood Earth cantrip to form a little island in the water, hops onto it, then repeats the process until she has crossed back to the stairs with dry feet and without Reya’s shoulders, where she stops with a twirl. “Maybe I could seal off passages we have been down.”
Round 2

RAYNOIR moves to guard the prisoner.
The last GAUNTLET misses KHESSA.
KHESSA does not miss. She clobbers the Flying Gauntlet with her maul.
REYA was not close enough to attack with her Greatsword. She throws her only dagger and misses.
ROUND THREE
ROSEBUD swings. Nothing but air.
ELIAS swings. Same results.
(ATLAS and RAYNOIR can try something different before the GAUNTLET attack again.)
Atlas will continue heading for the prisoner but think to himself, "I won't know what I can do if I don't give it a go." and he will quickly lose an arrow at the GAUNTLET.
ATK: 19

(That'll do it!)

VICTORY!
(Atlas needed a 19 to hit it. I moved your token to an open square.)
The bath houses in this town are really something else. How's the captive? Elias looks around.
"Indeed Elias!" the magically disguised blonde arcane warrior smiles gratefully at the young wizard, both for having defended her so zealously until now, and for having now tempered the great risk she has taken with a little humor "This Bath House in particular really needs improving - and improve it will!"

The prisoner’s iron shackles are locked.
Khessa is tempted to break the chains without too much ceremony, but knows it is probably more practical to open them with the key - so she sighs and searches first the Cultist Leader, then, if he does not have the key, the other Cultists.
KHESSA searches the bodies. Finds 25 gold pieces, 60 silver pieces and a chain with a bunch of keys.
“Elias, you are so correct! Too much stone and sacrificing. Not good, not good. I would suggest a bunch of water lillies over here and some climbing vines in the corner. Being the untrusting type, Atlas will keep an eye on Klima and try to verify that what she is saying is the whole truth.
INSIGHT: 14
"Well, I definitely would not have signed my name to it. Tracking someone is all too easy when you know exactly who you are looking for."
