As you round the corner and look into the area, amid the turning gears you can see several figures in the room, all looking in you direction, though perhaps it is hard to tell whether they actually see you or are merely looking in that direction. A humanoid sits in the balcony with a couple of winged box-like automatons holding archery bows in their hands. Below the balcony, toward the back of the room where spiral steps provide a way up and down, a frog-like creature stands guard.
As Jesa notes everyone apparently looking in their direction, she realizes Esta is not going to be able to sneak in. She instead steps forward herself, taking a moment to size up how many figures there are. (Perception: 17) Do any look like they might be Beltha?
'The balcony is the elevated position... the position of command and control...' instinct tells Eithne. 'Beltha is almost certainly the humanoid who sits in the balcony with that pair of winged box-like automatons'.
Since a ranged battle is likely brewing, the lone survivor takes cover at the corner of the entrance. If hostilities break out, she should be able to target enemies from there while remaining partially sheltered.
If the logbook is around, it isn't obvious to see from where you are, but the balcony is around 15 feet up, so seeing anything up there without actually gaining elevation is going to be impossible or nearly so. It does seem like it is probably Beltha, but in the dark here (and it is dark unless you have a light source going) you can't tell for sure.
Rogferr will stay in the back out of view considering he is not very good at stealth.
“Does anyone wish to try to negotiate with them? It seems like they are ready for a fight. I don't think automatons need to sleep or move so we probably won't get a more advantageous position. My familiar can fly up and get a better vantage point to give us more information on the humanoid.”
Eithne notes that hostilities haven't broken out yet, after all, so she takes the time to mutter to Rogferr (and the others): "If they went to the trouble of stealing the logbook, I doubt there's much to negotiate—they won't just hand it back to the first comer. While I'm not keen on suggesting it," she sighs "I believe attacking them first is the strategy that will give us the best chance of success. If we can make them feel in danger, we can offer them their lives in exchange for the logbook—and then maybe they'll listen to us."
Gimble attempts to take the initiative and casts Vortex Warp on the person we believe is Beltha, transporting them to the center of the party on a failed save (DC 15)
(Not sure if that will be allowed without initiative so)

(Point of order: For future reference, let's not assume initiative, and if it's ok with you all, I think I'd like to try and roll the initiative for you (I'll try to roll from your character sheet) to save a few posts of waiting for people to do that. I'd also hate for you to assume initiative especially if you have features that trigger from rolling initiative only for it to get called back. :) But going forward, we're ok for now. ^-^)
CON save: 22(I think this was rolled to everyone)
"What's the big idea!?" The woman growls from across the room. "This is my room, get your own!"
Eithne notices that Gimble has attempted to... do something—but that said something must not have been appreciated by Beltha, who seems ready to open hostilities. Then, the Lone Survivor, who had already drawn her Longbow, anticipates her and fires an arrow at her - immediately followed by a second.
After firing, the Savage Wanderer retreats down the corridor leading to the room, out of sight of Beltha and the Quadrones. 'So if they want to target us, they'll have to abandon their favorable high position...' she thinks.
Eithne: There is a brief flash from the balcony as you fire at Beltha, causing her first attack to deflect away, and the second sails wide.
Beltha: A couple of quick arcane words come from her as she points in Gimble's direction! She is attempting to cast a spell. WIS save from Gimble, DC 14. She then ducks down in the balcony and hides. (Giving her slightly better cover, not hidden)
On a failed save, take 37 psychic damage and you'll have disadvantage on ability checks and attack roles as your nightmares begin to fill your mind. You make attempt the save again at the end of your subsequent turns ending it on a success. On a successful save, take half damage only.
Both Quadrones notch arrows and volley at Gimble!

Esta steps in line with Jesa, surveying the scene. She whispers, "Hmmm seems a bit risky to try go in. Do you think they've seen us?"
She scans the surroundings to determine if the logbook is easily found from their vantage point:
Investigation: 11
"Do we make ourselves known? Or step away and come up with some plan?"
